  • Some cool movies youmentioned I would have included The Majestic. Yes it, is more about a writer of the movies not a movie entirley. But , it is a about a time I love that being the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950's. There a re few films on this subject Jeff Goldbloom was in one and Rbert D Niro was another. The names are escaping me right now.

  • @the13thwolfman I personally think that the Majestic is an underrated film (I enjoy serious Jim Carrey), I think most mainstream audiences were not too fond of it sadly.

  • @macguffinpodcast It is one of hist best films of all time if you ask me. I do not understand the hate toward this film. I really think that my love for the Hollywood Ten had something to dow ith me liking this.

  • @the13thwolfman that is a tough one...maybe we should do a Top 5 Jim Carrey films, he's done a number of really sold films (Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dumb & Dumber, Liar Liar, etc). I enjoyed his performance in it too.

I think the main complaint from people about The Majestic was that it felt like Oscar bait.

  • @macguffinpodcast That would be easy a top 5 Jim Carrey films.

1.Liar, Liar (he is on top here and it is the funneist he has ever been.

    2. The Majestic

    3. Me, Myself & Irene

    4. Number 23

    5. Dumb & Dumber

By they way where are you in Washinton State?

  • @the13thwolfman Solid list. No Truman Show? I haven't seen Number 23 but I saw the reviews were pretty savage toward it so I shied away. I think Me, Myself & Irene is under-appreciated too.

We are based in Seattle. Film most of our segments at Scarecrow Video.

  • @macguffinpodcast Okay i know where that is Scarecrow video. Yeah no truman show it was okay. Number 23 is worth a look I cannot say you will like it but I can say I did. After i saw it I wanted to own it.

  • @the13thwolfman Fair enough, I love the Truman Show, I thought Carrey should have been nominated for his performance.

Alright, I'll give the Number 23 a second chance...I do like serious Jim Carrey.

  • @macguffinpodcast So which person is this Brandi or Allan? How often is scarecrow video webstie updated? Do you guys sell out of regoin dvd's/blu ray's?

  • @the13thwolfman this is actually neither. This is Spencer, I produce the Top 5s and host the main podcast.

  • @the13thwolfman oh, and we aren't directly affiliated with Scarecrow Video, we just film there. But they sell all sorts of unusual DVD's & blu-rays. I'm sure you can find some out of region stuff.

  • @macguffinpodcast Oh figured you worked there and did this one thie side to help . Sorry to bug you about that have to run for now nice top 5 check some of mine out on my page. I have 23 episodes of top 5's.

  • @the13thwolfman no problem, it happens all the time. I will check it out.

  • I totally agree with the inclusion of Fellini’s "8 1/2," but if I was making a list of my favorite movies about movies I would probably include at least a couple entries that are a little more about the physical process of filmmaking, and the phenomenological relationship of the viewer to the film and the filmmaker. So in that vein I would include Vertov’s "Man with a Movie Camera," Hollis Frampton’s "Nostalgia," or possibly Michael Snow's "Wave Length."

  • @JsonNein thanks for the great comment and you make a good argument.

What would be the rest of your top 5 include?

  • "Contempt" and "Day for Night"

  • @macguffinpodcast d'oh, I forgot about that comment. Definitely a solid list of films.

  • is there a film about a film about a film?

  • @tehjizz good question, I thought about this and couldn't think of anything. I have to imagine it has happened...probably a parody of a documentary. If someone can come up with one I'd love to know.

  • @macguffinpodcast It's a little bit of a cheat, but Synecdoche, New York is a movie about a play about a play about a play...

  • @flipboy923 perhaps it is a bit of a cheat, but we'll take what we can get. Unless someone can beat that, I say it is a winner.

  • Wow. You guys are generally pretty good with your top 5's, but this time around I think you were really off the mark. Nothing from the French New Wave? Like 90% of their films were movies about movies on one level or another. I whole heartedly agree with the write-ins on this one. Contempt(Le Mepris) and Day for Night are both milestones in the history of cinema as well as being two outstanding examples of movies about movies.

  • @JsonNein you make a really good point. Besides Contempt and Day for Night, what other films would you have on your top 5?
