he doesn't need to extend fully, because (for most lifters...) maximum acceleration happens PRIOR to the legs fully straightening. many elite lifters do not fully straighten their legs in the pull - dimas and kakhi frequently didn't. it is a myth that one should fully straighten the legs. for some lifters (lever lengths, skills etc. varies) it may be optimal, but in general, it is not optimal technique.
He doesn't stand as tall as possible with the hips and calves because there is no need to. You can see the bar was plenty high enough and actually crashed a small amount. More than enough pull. If he extended to his capacity Im certain he would PC this weight. It clearly says, NOT maximum. With a maximum weight there would be much more extension on all limbs to get the bar to the same height as it was on this lift. Maximum weights = maximum effort. This clearly shows he's not at maximum
@randomdipshit did you mean traps? By the way its better if the feet don't move up off the ground much, only to the side to catch in the squat position.
optimal start position, leg push, shoulders in front of the bar, constant back arch start to finish, so optimum lever, plenty of extension for the load, only knees stay bent (shoulders end up behind hips), beaut squat and jerk, non-traunmatic lift.
he's not maximizing his pull, look at 13 sec. Also, his severe hip osolation causes his hip angle at the start of his pull to be raised to a point where he is loosing power. He needs to extend his hips at the top and lower them at the bottom. But what can you say, the russians with their gymnast affiliations can't help but have this style.
stupendo!

@gasfr in snatch i would say it is. In C&J - I would say not straightening them is better.

As soon as I saw the video I noticed he doesn't extend fully. By the looks of it I don't seem to be the only one spotting this.
Anybody know where this video is from? Maybe it was a recorded session to spot flaws in technique?
Nevertheless, great video.
