I was a Morris dancer briefly in my misspent Renaissance Festival youth. And Jamestown, Virginia was established in 1607; but you're right, most Americans know 1776, if that. It's no 1397, but we take what we can get.

Well we in the States actually have stuff from the mid 1700's. I mean, even the White House is 200 years old. So 250 years rather than the 100 you were saying.. nevertheless we can't really compare much to 1397, so that's really impressive.

Unless you want to count the ruins of the American Indian tribes, some of which are easily 1500 to 2000 years old. That's a bit different though.
