I guess thats why they say than a combination of different drugs are required to treat cancer. HIV also forms mutations that makes resistant to antibiotics, therefore it must require various forms of antibiotics to treat it.

It is similar to that. HIV is a virus so infection with HIV is not treated with antibiotics. They are only used to treat bacterial infections.
The idea is the same though. Treatment with drugs selects for variants of the virus that are not sensitive to that particular agent.
