all speculation should be closed piazza showed up in a mets hat not a dodgers hat in the futures game last night and he has stated multiple time that he wants to go in as a met.
Piazza is going to retire as a met. He said he wants to. He called Met fans the best in the world. Piazza says he loves the mets. He came to the last game of shea and the first game of citi field. When reporter asked him with which team would he retire with he said the Mets. he is not retiring as a dodger
this song was for the actual tribute at shea stadium right?? I was there that day im pretty sure it was this song..know where to find the real video tho??
I still remember the very first time I saw Piazza... I was six or seven, around there, adn I had to be the catcher on my Little League team, and was scared to death. I mean, I was the tiniest, palest kid around back then- I did NOT want to have balls hurled at me and some guys swinging a bat in front of me.
And living in CA, someone in my family said, "Well, you could be like Mike Piazza." And then I saw him- EVERYTHING a little kid wants to be...
mike you will always be a dodger i still remember when you got traded to the mets that night y cried my hero had left town i still remember dodgers fan switching teams just cus you were traded that's one of the biggest blows i cant remember
He WILL go into the Hall as a Met, as he should... damn the numbers he had with the Dodgers, all his great moments came with the Mets- the posteason, those great showdowns between the Braves and Mets those couple years, the 2000 World Series, and, to clinch it...
The Post 9/11 Home Run.
NO WAY the Hall overlooks his bigges moment and one of New York's biggest ever baseball moments (and isn't THAT saying something?)
Well, look at his stats. He played more games as a Met (95 to be exact) and more full seasons as a Met. Plus he has more postseason appearances as a Met. Not to mention his most poignant moment (the post-9/11 HR) was as a Met.
Who knows what the Hall will do, but it sure looks like he'd be put in as a Met.
If he is FOREVER A DODGER, why was it that the Dodger fans booed him on his return to to Dodger Stadium? On his first game back to Shea Stadium WE GAVE HIM 5 MINUTE STANDING OVATIONS at every of his at bats. Now you tell me if he deserves to go in to the Hall of Fame as a Dodger or a Met. No if and or buts, HE IS FOREVER A MET.
I have of collection of his cards, and it even includes his card as a Florida Marlin for that one week. Mike Piazza future hall of fame member.. AS A NEW YORK MET
i agree he had his best years as a met and as a die hard season ticket holeder i want nothing more than to see him go in as a met but the only thing that worries me is tommy lasorda, mikes godfather is all about the dodgers so he might request mike go in as a dodger but lets hope as a met
He had his "glory years" with the Mets? You mean the years where he hit .266 and .251? And drove in career-lows of 54 and 62 RsBI? Where he had career-lows of OBP, SLG, OPS, and OPS+?
Without question, his greatest years were with the Dodgers, and that's what he should go in the Hall as.
Oh, I see. So, because a player gets more recognition in another uniform (that's false as well), that makes those years his "glory years"?
The stats prove where his glory years were, and he had (by far) his best seasons in a Dodgers uniform. Despite the fact that, according to you, "nobody knew who the fuck he was".
Ok ready? Here are his numbers from 3 categories with both teams. with the dodgers he hit 563 RBI's. With the Mets he hit 655 RBI's. With the Dodgers he had 896 hits. With the Mets he had 1028 hits. With the Dodgers he had 177 homeruns. With the Mets he had 220 homeruns. Would you like me to keep going? Not to mention he was with the Mets for 8 years, and with the dodgers for 7. And he went to the World series with the Mets. I think its safe to say his glory days were in New York.
And I love how you choose to mention only three categories (three categories that are amazingly overrated), yet you fail to mention any of the stats that I mentioned that prove that his greatest seasons came while in Los Angeles.
I'm positive it's safe to say that his glory years were in L.A.
Ok ready again? Piazzas OBP with the Dodgers was 372. His on base percentage with the Mets was 373. His slugging percentage with the Dodgers was 532. His slugging percentage with the Mets was 536. Once again would you like me to keep going?
*Sigh* It really is sad when someone makes shit up to further their point. OBP w/ LAD: .394 OBP w/ NYM: .373 SLG w/ LAD: .572 SLG w/ NYM: .542 OPS w/ LAD: .966 OPS w/ NYM: .915 OPS+ w/ LAD: 159 OPS+ w/ NYM: 136 Come on buddy, at least get your stats halfway right.
Honestly, just a quick question. Do you realize he does not want to be remembered as a Dodger, He has said over and over again, He will always be a Met. Why are you trying to hold on to someone who doesn't want to be remembered with your team? It just confuses me as to why you would think he is more of a Dodger, when everyone including Mike Piazza has said he is more of a Met. Just answer me that question.
Your not answering my question. I'll ask again. Do you realize that Piazza has said He only wants to be a Met. You see, im not saying he was more of a Met, Mike Piazza himself has said He will always consider himself a Met, IM only going on what he has said himself. I just want to know if you realize all of this? I suppose you think Tom Seaver wasn't really a Met either lol.
Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and Miami -- whether it was at home or on the road, you were all so supportive over the years. But I have to say that my time with the Mets wouldn't have been the same without the greatest fans in the world. One of the hardest moments of my
career, was walking off the field at Shea Stadium and saying goodbye. My relationship with you made my time in New York the happiest of my career and for that, I will always be grateful."
Again, tell me where his numbers are better. Dave Winfield was loved by Yankees fans. He was inducted as a Padre. Boston media treated Nomar Garciaparra like dirt in his last few years. If he ends up getting to the Hall, what cap do you think he goes in as?
Piazza was just as loved by the Dodgers fans as he was Mets fans, and he had BY FAR his best seasons in LA. You act like New York media wasn't harsh on him in his last few ailing seasons. They most certainly were.
@EricAnno well he was in his prime when he was in LA and when he joined the mets. Later on he wasn't in his prime and that is really why his numbers were better as a dodger. If he became a met earlier his numbers as a met would be better.
I think you need to check your stats again. First of all he was with the mets the longest, and in almost every batting category but one, had his highest number with the Mets. Count it up if you dont believe me. He has also stated many times that upon his induction into the HOF he would like to go in as a Met.
Yea exactly, he did have more years with the Mets, so that makes him more of a Met. So you just contradicted yourself. And theirs a reason why i asked you should i keep going. If you want ill read you off his averages, OBP, and slugging, and you will see that it was higher with the Mets. Would you like me too? And how is Hits, RBIs and homeruns, and an appearance in the WS over rated? thats what these players live for. He has said in his own words "I will always be a Met" his words not mine.
Reggie Jackson played more games for the Angels than the Yankees...does that make him more of an Angel than a Yankee? Gary Carter spent more years in Canada, but isn't he more thought of as a Met?
Mike Piazza's LAD batting average is over 40 points higher than his NYM batting average. I would love to know where you get your stats from so that I can report the inaccuracies.
The only stats you posted are overrated stats, false other stats, and asked me if I want you to post more. Please do.
Everything you just said was made up. I got my information form the baseball almanac. And i hate to burst your bubble douche bag, but you like someone who doesn't like you. In his own words upon retirement, he said, and i quote. "I love all the teams i have played for, but a Met is how i want to be remembered" He also has said in his own words He wants to go into the hall of fame as a Met. Im sorry maybe you didn't hear me before. I said that on ESPN, the baseball writers who vote, were saying that he should be voted in as a Met. So i guess everyone considers him a Met but you.
The voters don't decide what he goes in as either. I could care less what those idiots think, considering they just inducted Jim Rice.
Not everybody considers him a Met. I guess Mets fans do, but Dodgers fans consider him to be forever a Dodger.
The voters don't decide what he goes in as. The Hall of Fame committee themselves decide nowadays, and his best seasons came as a Dodger and that's what he should in as.

P.S. He didn't retire as a Met. He retired with the Oakland A's.
That is not necessarily true. He most likely will go in as a Met, but, you do not always go into the Hall of Fame with the last team you play on. For example, Wille Mays, retired as a Met, but went into the Hall of Fame as a Giant, because that is where the vast majority of his career was played. There are other example of this as well.
