Regarding police vs. citizens carrying guns, I have a friend in the local PD here (Henrico, Co Va) You would be surprised to learn what little qualification requirements are.

I shoot upwards of 400 rounds a weekend from May-Oct. Also, many of those that carry also practice by competing in IDPA or IPSC matches. Don't assume that training is ignored. It is in fact encouraged.

@swatcapt11 Actually, privately owned businesses can and do set policy regarding firearms. The 2A does not apply to private business. Jared jewelers and Wachovia bank are examples that ban firearms. Suntrust bank and Chipotle Grill on the other hand have no problem with them.
You may be thinking of public property like county gov't offices and state/county parks. Virginia's preemption statute mandates that no locality can create or enforce firearms regulation and that the state law is supreme.

Regarding police vs. citizens carrying guns, I have a friend in the local PD here (Henrico, Co Va) You would be surprised to learn what little qualification requirements are.
I'm quite sure that you'd be content to call 911 while your wife or daughter is being attacked. I'm just not that person that will wait around for the police to try and do something.

@isl1968 There you go with unsubstantiated statistics again. How do you know that police have 100x more training than those that carry? That's the case sometimes perhaps, but there are also police that only unholster their firearm during yearly qualifications.
I shoot upwards of 400 rounds a weekend from May-Oct. Also, many of those that carry also practice by competing in IDPA or IPSC matches. Don't assume that training is ignored. It is in fact encouraged.

@bnkrazy... for the sake of arguement explain to me what and how you would take on an attacker with a gun... attacking meaning choking, kicking, grabbing... or attacking her car. I can see you shooting someone attacking her vehicle with her in it so let's not assume that scenario. Please enlighten you fellow carriers of how correctly address the attacker with a gun... This is your opportunity to shine...

@isl1968 Ideally, she would never get in a position where she is attacked, as we both watch our surroundings and don't put ourselves in harms way.
If someone did manage to surprise us and was simply choking/kicking/grabbing her, it is unlikely that situation would require the use of a firearm.
This isn't all or nothing. There can be times when a firearm is of use, and other times it would not be. You didn't throw away your fire extinguisher because you didn't need it today did you?

Well let us hope there is no use for a firearm if someone is choking/kicking/grabbing your wife because if that is the case the guy doing it may be a concealed carrier. Hunting is a good use for a gun. Let me guess you open carry an extinguisher too. Dam Fireman what the hells next. Open carry mailman.

You missed the first part of the quote. "Ideally, she would never get in a position..." Ideally being the key word. Because you can't predict when bad things will happen, I believe you should be prepared. If you'd rather depend on someone else with a gun or fire extinguisher, good luck with that.
I have a fire extinguisher in my car. Apparently you believe others will always be there to rescue you. Again, good luck.

I am pretty good with my hands and feet if close enough I would react cautiously with malice... if not close enough well I would comply with the lunatic and take cover... Hell you never know with those "open carry citizens" their coffee may be cold and they may lose a screw. From what I see on these videos they look like the can blow at anytime.

@isl1968 Starbucks is less dangerous now because law abiding citizens open carrying will deter a psychopath gun men onto softer targets like California Pizza Kitchen where he can kill everybody instead of getting killed himself taking out only 1 innocent soul in Starbucks. Simple math statistics, psychopath want to inflict maximum casualties, simple logic they don't like being shot at either.

@isl1968 Who would have thought you would need a gun in a small town waffle house? Well as it turns out they did. Two open carriers were sitting in a Georgia waffle house when a guy casing the place saw them went back to the car with other bad guys planning on robbing it. They decided to wait until the two left to rob it. But a cop got to them as the OCers were leavin. You never know where the next crime is going to occur it would be going to Starbucks, at Starbucks or leaving Starbucks.

she is wrong the store owns if she is refering to starbucks they cant have a no gun policy as they are a cooperation. i also love how she called the mags clips at least she should know the right terminology for what she is reporting

@swatcapt11 Actually, privately owned businesses can and do set policy regarding firearms. The 2A does not apply to private business. Jared jewelers and Wachovia bank are examples that ban firearms. Suntrust bank and Chipotle Grill on the other hand have no problem with them.
You may be thinking of public property like county gov't offices and state/county parks. Virginia's preemption statute mandates that no locality can create or enforce firearms regulation and that the state law is supreme.

@bnkrazy starbuck is not considerd privately owned because it is a corperation. IT IS NOT a franzied if it was then they could but if the corp office says that we allow guns hen there is not a thing the stores can do about it, Please know law before you post

Please understand there is a difference in how private businesses (franchise or not, Starbucks is a private business, not a public entity) can run their stores, and what state and local gov't entities can do concerning firearms regulation.

You can't seem to see the distinction I'm making between public and private entities, so I'm giving up.
I don't even know why this is still an issue...Starbucks has obviously rejected the Brady Campaign's initiative.
