next time i get on and the tour guide comes in I'm gonna have my cell phone go off. this is my ring tone. "your phone, ringing it is, press the button you must"
@RoRoYrBoat215 technically george lucas had a heavy impact on multiple childhoods for the better. and if they hadn't let him in there would have never been a star tours, new or old. I disagree with some of the changes disney has made (i.e. pirates o.t.C.) but this one might work.
Woah the visuals in this are great. You know I could be wrong but it looks like the animation for this was done by the same animators who did the animation for Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2. I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be the truth.
@DarthBuddy96 WTF would they put a video game character on a star tour ride that a retarded thing you just said some star wars fans don't play force unleashed duh. Think before you say something retarded.
w8 a min can someone replay back: i was jst at the new star tours yesterday and i got the darth vader episode. is it always a different episode for everybody?
See, stuff like this, I would not mind experiencing in 3D, short gimmicky eye candy fests seen from the first person. Not an entire 2 hour or longer length movie.
Also, that approach to the Death Star was totally rad. Of course it doesn't make sense that you see prequel and original trilogy stuff but, who cares not like Star Tours is cannon.
My husband & I are huge SW fans and managed to ride this 6 times this past week at Disneyland. We both agree it is a HUGE improvement over the original. I even got to be the rebel spy once. Went to every location (some twice) except Coruscant. However, we both felt sick after riding it so many times in a row, and we don't usually suffer from motion sickness. Saw a kid throw up on the floor after stepping off the ride as well. Suggestion: Don't ride more than 2 times in a row on any given day!
@clarkegti LOL, I love how they unexpectedly sneak that in. It was soooo funny the first time we rode the ride and the kid right next to me was in the picture.
I got to go on this one. It was AWESOME!!! (oh, and I'm a rebel spy) It was realistic looking, much better than the old one, and best of all, different every time. Go if you can
i think its kind of funny. you see all these negative comments on here saying how horrible this looks. yet i will bet you they will still go to disneyland and get on the ride. no matter how "horrible" it looks and how "bad" they just ruined the ride. its a ride. enjoy it. plus its one of the best and my favorite rides. people. GROW UP!!!!
wow.... this looks terrible. The old ride looked far more realistic. George Lucas truly proves he is the master of the art of ruining things. The original ride was simple yea sure, but this looks like a video game intro.
@Sumoto999 Sorry, got to go on this, the new one is a lot better. It feels more real, and looks pretty real too. Remember that CGI is cheaper and faster to do. Plus, it's in ....
3D!!!!
Of course, everything is now. They swap it up, so it's different everytime (I saw darth vader once, went to the wookie planet, and boba fett appeared, but on another ride I saw the millenium falcon and Naboo, and Princess Leia sent a hologram).
We hit every single Destination except Tatooine and Death Star. It was simply amazing chewbaccca hanging on our ship and being eaten by the naboo creature and shoock around and crashing on hoth it was amazing......i love it.
The original Star Tours featured uncanon content. But Star Tours seems to feature canon content from the expanded universe. For example, the first Deathstar spent its early build stages above Geonosis, due to that the Empire was using geonosian enslaved workers.
Maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but on the notion of a TOUR I can't help but feel it would be really awkward on the tour-guides part to point out the scenes in detail:
Coruscant: To the left is a ship experiencing explosive decompression with people being flung out into space while suffocating.
Hoth: Up ahead you can view the slaughter of the rebel alliance as they make their retreat.
Millenium Falcon: Yes, as you can see I just shot and killed an Imperial Pilot...
@Waxer3929 well the ride is at first staged to resemble a "tour", but like any ride, there is a twist to it, where you begin, but then are noted to have a rebel spy on board, where a camera takes a picture of a guest in the ride annonmesly, there then you escape having an adventerous ride around planet etc. etc. i went on it
@Blahblahblah14898 Well of course, that's how the Reboot ride and pretty much all those other rides at Las Vegas played out. Someone attaches themselves to an audience carriage by accident and they sort of make do. I'm not trying to overly criticize it, I can't wait to go on it when I get the chance.
@legorohan At the end of Revenge of the Sith, it shows Vader and the Emperor looking out the window of a star destroyer with the first Death Star being built. The location in the movie was not stated, so I guess you could assume that was above Geonosis (since the Geonosians had the plans). Just a guess.
To me the best ride combo is this. Intro (Falcon or Vader, either one is awesome), 1st planet: Tatooine, hologram: Yoda, end planet: Death Star or Coruscant, they're both awesome.
Hoth is fine, but I enjoy podracing so...Kashyyyk is okay, but you feel sorry for Chewy. The holograms of Leia and Ackbar are meh. Naboo is kinda lack luster and people usually groan or boo whenever they see Jar Jar. I hate it when people do that. But it does have the funniest ending with 3PO and the pit droid.
The only part of the old Star Tours I miss is the part where you dive into the trenches of the Death Star, a la Star Wars IV: A New Hope. It was a very immersive part and when I rode this last week I didn't get that same sense of being on the front lines in an X-Wing like that old scene did.
I've been on both new and old and personally I liked the added 3D effects. It gave depth to the entire thing which in a sense added to the realism. For everyone saying how lame it looks, you're not seeing it in the correct format, you're seeing it in flat 2D so of course it looks boring. Combine this footage with 3D and the simulator and you've got a fun ride.
I think everyone needs to look past all the hype and compare the original Star Tours to the new version and you will see....the original looks FAR MORE realistic than this cgi counterpart! Im all for 3D, new destinations and stuff like that...but I cant stand fake CGI effects! SIGH..... Still don't believe me, check the original one posted by SOCalCoaster521 (Star Tours Ride Film)
WHY DISNEY...WHY? Star Tours was always the first ride I would take my kids on (even before the tea cups) lol. I was hoping they would make it like the Simpsons Ride @ Universal Studios. I hope they don't mess with Space Mountain.
I won't even give this the dignity of explaining WHY it is so fucked. The reasons should be self-evident. The only part of the franchise I thought they couldn't fuck up, and they fucked it up!
This non-3D version of the real stuff you will be seeing if you ride it will not do it justice, plus they're only snippets not showing all the good stuff.
@Ranour But you seriously don't notice it when you ride it. You shake around so much you can't focus on the screen. Besides, there's 50 new destinations and journeys. They couldn't refine all of that to perfection.
@WaddleBuff Actually there's only 9 different destinations/locations/journeys. The 50 combinations comes from the intro and mid-message holograms you get but they're just filler.
It looks like they are going to randomize these each time the ride is in use so no two experiences are alike, good idea on disney's part. I have to wonder if they will still have the old star tours though, i have been on that thing more times than i can count and it's still not old.
wow they really overdid the CGI's. Looks like it's straight out of the Clone Wars series. The original Star Tours had the heaviness and realistic-looking ships. It just doesn't look real at all. It's just that the original Star Tours made me think as if I were traveling through space for REALZ. This, I just feel like I'm watching a footage of a new Star Wars game on Xbox or somethin.
@tatsmorgan Yeah, sorry, you're right. I am not a thirteen year old girl and it is not perfectly acceptable for me to defend something that is fun and amazing with great atmosphere and technology for people of all ages. Really, the fault is mine.
@SkittleE275 hey I'm not knocking you for living in your Mom & dad's basement. I think it's great. Given the opportunity, I'd be moving into my Mom & dad's basement as well. Heck, I'll move into anyone's basement. Do you know how expensive rent is around here? And forget about buying property in this economy.
Seriously, there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun, but when it concerns adult Star Wars fans, having fun is at the end of a long list of petty grievances.
@SkittleE275 I knew what you meant. I wouldn't worry about that. You're a million light years ahead of those people who type using Ebonics or that 'chat speak' whenever they get near a PC or a cell phone.
@tatsmorgan I'm a Star Wars fan, but I have to say just appreciate what they give us because I guarantee you they put alot of hard work and effort into it. Besides, even if it is "video game quality", it's still amazing never-the-less.
@11TyDye it'll be even better while inside the motion simulator-everything becomes more realistic when moving around, and your brain gets tricked and you get pulled into the movie you're watching
So does this ride really take place between Episodes III & IV? because I see that you go to the Battle of Corusant from "Revenge of the Sith" and the Battle of Hoth from "The Empire Strikes Back"
How are we at the boonta eve pod race? Its episode iii.v and we're back in episode i. don't say otherwise because you can clearly spot out sebulba's pod.
I seriously hate the fact that they released these clips of the on ride video to the public on youtube like this. THIS does not show what the ride is like. The ride is amazing, and you have to see it and feel it the way it was designed.
Jar Jar is in it, George just doesnt get it at all we DONT want to see him not even as a joke, I have to say im not impressed with what I see, it is too much like the original in the overall experience and the videos are even more remeniscent than the original of the old simulator rides that were popular about 15 yrs ago....in other words gimicky and contrived.
@jacoboDrew That scene is actually a lot of fun when you're riding on the motion simulator. Sure Vader on a hoverboard is a little odd, but having him use the Force to push the cabin you're in around is simply fun.
@Ripplin Hi Ripplin! While I certainly agree in terms of overall quality I think the other faker PT movies still look better than Star Tours... doesn't meanI won't ride it a thousand times.
@EyeShotFirst1 Keep in mind that it's 3D, so all effect are "increased" by the 3D. People who made the soft opening said it was very convincing... and that it made them a bit sick already :D
next time i get on and the tour guide comes in I'm gonna have my cell phone go off. this is my ring tone. "your phone, ringing it is, press the button you must"

@11TyDye it'll be even better while inside the motion simulator-everything becomes more realistic when moving around, and your brain gets tricked and you get pulled into the movie you're watching
spyyder976 6 months ago
@spyyder976 I've spent the whole day at Star Tours when I went :)
11TyDye 6 months ago
So does this ride really take place between Episodes III & IV? because I see that you go to the Battle of Corusant from "Revenge of the Sith" and the Battle of Hoth from "The Empire Strikes Back"
AlexG8462 9 months ago
Coruscant looked cool and Hoth was Epic! I just hope they throw in the actual Battle of Endor instead of just the Geonosis scene.
Arrakeen77 9 months ago
Star Tours II is far better storytelling than anything the prequels gave us.
George Lucas lost his touch, but Disney Imagineering found it.

Cool video!

does Admiral Ackbar come in and say "its a trap!!!!" Because that'll be awesome.
itselguapo 9 months ago
How are we at the boonta eve pod race? Its episode iii.v and we're back in episode i. don't say otherwise because you can clearly spot out sebulba's pod.
juneradar 9 months ago
I seriously hate the fact that they released these clips of the on ride video to the public on youtube like this. THIS does not show what the ride is like. The ride is amazing, and you have to see it and feel it the way it was designed.
ArtAndSuch 9 months ago
the cg looks awesome and reminds me of an pretty cool looking video game
jokerhalo1 9 months ago
I like Hoth, but I am tired of seeing Hoth in everything Star Wars! Same goes for Tatooine, but I do not like the sand planet...it is so boring!
dangrievousreturns 9 months ago
Jar Jar is in it, George just doesnt get it at all we DONT want to see him not even as a joke, I have to say im not impressed with what I see, it is too much like the original in the overall experience and the videos are even more remeniscent than the original of the old simulator rides that were popular about 15 yrs ago....in other words gimicky and contrived.

It looks amazing, but still, that ion cannon was Ady's idea..

...Holy shit...

This is truly excellent, I had my doubts...but once again. Disney has delivered!

How come the ION cannon now suddenly shoots blue bolts? and is located near an entrance....?
Ripoff Adywan much? he did it 1st !

meh to the vader scene... honestly, i was getting really stoked and then i saw that. oh well... :/
jacoboDrew 9 months ago 8
@jacoboDrew That scene is actually a lot of fun when you're riding on the motion simulator. Sure Vader on a hoverboard is a little odd, but having him use the Force to push the cabin you're in around is simply fun.
InsideTheMagic 9 months ago 21
@InsideTheMagic i had the same reaction as the other guy, but i will take your word for it as the idea does sound interesting!
jjjj614 7 months ago
@jacoboDrew It looks and FEELS much better in the ride, trust me!
fctiger74 9 months ago
@jacoboDrew
I agree. Vader surfing on that hover craft is as stupid as things get. Awful.

Darth McFly?! :p
Ripplin 9 months ago
Why does the CG look worse than it did in The Phantom Menace? Jeez...
bkev93 9 months ago
@bkev93 I agree it looks bad, but I also think that TPM is aging far better than AOTC and ROTS. Kinda sad, considering how much older it is. :p
Ripplin 9 months ago
@Ripplin Hi Ripplin! While I certainly agree in terms of overall quality I think the other faker PT movies still look better than Star Tours... doesn't meanI won't ride it a thousand times.
bkev93 9 months ago
@bkev93 it was a movie that a simple ride

PODRACE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I love that they put that in!
AronAgmar 9 months ago
LOL that was fracking sweet!
Teletran35 9 months ago
The CGI is actually worse than the prequels. The pod race is made slow and boring compared to the movie. I wanna go fast.
EyeShotFirst1 9 months ago
@EyeShotFirst1 When combined with the movements of the motion simulator on the ride, all the action seen here feels much faster.
InsideTheMagic 9 months ago 7
@EyeShotFirst1 Keep in mind that it's 3D, so all effect are "increased" by the 3D. People who made the soft opening said it was very convincing... and that it made them a bit sick already :D
startide 9 months ago
Cheapened by the prequel junk and the "Darth Vader on a hoverboard" thing, but still would be a cool thing to sit through
PzVIE43 9 months ago
Hmm... Is there a scenario from each destination, or will just see all one after an other ?
ninaraf 9 months ago
@ninaraf From the looks of it, each one will have a story. Darth Vader is hunting you in that part where you see him.
