Was there in '92 and '95. Looking back on it with almost 20 years perspective, these trips were truly some of the best times of my life so far. You wouldn't have guessed how much it means at the time, but one day you'll think back to how great it was.
Congrats on your trek!! It looks like y'all had a great time! I was the crew leader for 627-I1 this summer! I was the one of the two female crew leaders. Philmont was the best experience of my life, how about you?
@kAyLa2o13 Glad you had a great time, and congrats on being crew leader. The video here was from 4 years ago (2006) but watching it again, it stills seems fresh. It was a fantastic experience for me. We went again in 2008, and I shot a lot of video again but haven't put together a good vid yet. You can click on my channel to see a couple of short videos from Philmont 2008.
my parents signed me up for thhis shit. i dont want to go
fuck that.this seems like the biggest waste of time. fuck hiking for 10 days. and the worst part my family is going on vacation while im gone! what the fuck is that. i hate them. i hate boy scouts.
It was a long ride, but it was kind of neat too -- I'd never ridden a train before other than just a touristy scenic ride. All in all a cool experience to try at least once in your life.
Trek 24 looks like a great trek: Sioux+, Pueblano+, Baldy Town+ (Baldy climb), Baldy Skyline, Devils Wash Basin*, Clarks Fork, Cyphers Mine*, Red Hills, Shaefers Pass*
You can see the * camps in my 2006 videos. I went back to Philmont last year ( saw the + camps) and we did Baldy, which was really cool but really hard for old guys like me. I still have lots of video from last year I haven't edited or posted yet. Click my name for other Philmont vids.
You know, I don't really remember. Normally you have two scouts per tent, but obviously if you had an odd number of scouts you'd have a tent with one scout. I do believe they have rules against bigger tents -- maybe no bigger than 3-man? -- but I'm just guessing. Sorry I don't have a good answer for you.
I was in a three man tent in June - July 2005. But it was our tent we brought. I don't know if we broke any rules. I'm sure the philmont website would have the information for tents.
I am going this year, We are meeting this wednesday to decide which trek we all want to do. I hope we do one like this, except for the climbing, I dontlike climbing that much.
Yes, the exact same trek, I believe. When we did the trek in 2006, it was called Trek #6. In the 2008 guide, it is now called Trek #11. I don't know if any trails changed, but both have the same exact camps.
There's no comparison. Philmont is an unbelievable experience, it's not just about "walking from one point to another." Our crew grew so much, including the adults (I was an advisor). We learned to work together as never before, and we all grew closer to God and to each other.
One other thing. When you have no options, and you feel like you can't take another step, you learn that you can. This pushed us to learn we could do much more than we ever dreamed we could.
Actually, you only need to wear your Class A uniform while traveling to and from Philmont (or any other scout function when you are traveling as a group).
Once you get to Philmont, you don't need Class A at all -- not in base camp, not for dining hall, not for the trail, etc.
hey guys i am going to philmont this year for my first time do u have any suggestions on what i should bring and what i shouldn't bring anything is greatly appreciated thanks just message me

At Philmont, are they allowed to have 1 scout in a tent?

its really funny because you guys did pretty much the same trek as us but a week earlier!
djjimwdsofm 3 years ago
I've only been to Philmont once (going again in 2 weeks), but that trek (old #6) was just fantastic. I loved the giant rock thing at Aspen Springs.
I'm so glad I took the camcorder. There's so much I see on tape (still editing about 2-1/2 hours worth) that I would otherwise forget.
By the way, in the new 2008 Treks, the old Trek #6 is now called Trek #11.
timlan635 3 years ago
Loved your video. I went to Philmont last year and I'll be working there this year. Can't wait.
kitsunethief01 3 years ago
Where will you be working?
I am heading back to Philmont in just 2 short weeks! Crew 609-something, and we'll be on Trek #21 (75 miles)
Sioux, Dan Beard, Seally Canyon,
Whiteman Vega, Ring Place,
Rich Cabins, Ewells Park,
(Day hike to Baldy) Ewells Park
Pueblano Ruins, Ponil
Gosh, I wish I was in better shape...
timlan635 3 years ago
I will be making that lovely dining hall food you all have to eat the first and last day at Philmont. It somehow tastes better that last day.
