This song is nothing like who the band really was. If they kept making love songs they never would have made it big. Thank god they transformed to post-grunge teen-angst punk rock.
@number1hombre It's a matter of opinion, buddy. Some of us prefer this side of Green Day. It's just fun to listen to. However, I do think they were at their peak with Dookie, but have been gradually going downhill after that.
People who try to define punk, fucking elitists. I think a lot of the bands that you consider punk were against trying to define what punk is. Now shut the fuck up.
Okay there is a BIG difference between new and old green day. they fucking sucked after dookie. they might have played with operation ivy, but they were never punk. punks drink, they rarely smoke weed, and thats what green day was about. they were too popy to be punk and every song is about a girl that billie joe couldn't get. I should stop ranting. point is, new green day sucks, and they're not punk. yall are dumb.
@yllefrobloggse actually they named the band after one of billie joes teacher said "it will be a Green Day in hell before you two make anything of your selves"
but yes to the fact it was named for their love of Weed
this song, platypus, know your enemy, holiday, welcome to paradise, basket case, when i come around, brain stew, good riddance, sick of me and, yes, 21 guns are all AMAZING songs by an AMAZING band! who cares if its "old green day" or "new green day"? either way, theyre green day and theyre awesome.
I remember the first album, ive listened to them for as long as i can remember, my dads friends sons friend showed me them when we were longboarding...
@StevenPunkRotten I appreciate your help, but I couldn't find it. Could you be more specific?(Tell me the name of the uploader or whatever you think would help).
So what if you liked Green Day before or after 21 Guns? I find it offensive since I liked them after I saw the 21st Century Breakdown MV. Whatever era you liked them as long as you're willing to be there for them 'til the end, I think that's what a true Green Day fan is. It doesn't make you less of a fan if you like them post- Kerplunk, post-Dookie, or whatever. As long as you love their music, that's what counts. :)
I wasn't even born when Green Day formed, so how could I like their very early albums right away?
I just recently fell in love with the band and I like all of their songs, not just the very well known ones like Blvd of Broken Dreams and whatnot. ^^
It doesn't matter If you like them after they made 21st CBD or if you liked them during 1039 SOSH what matters is that if you are a true and solid Green Day fan you would understand why they change not for their popularity but because they grow older.
@Jetgui22 I disagree, I think they changed for popularity, especially with Dookie. Compare Kerplunk to Dookie and it is obvious. Doesn't make them bad for wanting to make some money though!!!
@legalizeit727 Dookie was cool though and so was Insomniac. The next one was so-so, Warning was pretty weak and then from there on it's been commercial bullshit in my opinion.
@Cheezy I would be so happy to hear a re-done superhits album. Green Day was one of the best bands ever until the 21st century. This album is one of my favorites. I'm sad they didn't stop after releasing Warning. I'm sad to see what they are now :( since when did punk bands do brodway?
First song ever this should be a single but yet green day didnt start making singles until Dookie but if they did this would be one , cause green day knows this song kicks ass
the first song i heard of this band was "holiday" it was in the intro to surfs up lol only atthe time i dident know who greenday was lol i just watched that movie after i learned holiday in was like wtf i heawd about greenday from time of your life and i can now play the hole song my guitar life would be no where wit out them
maybe if you listen to some more Green day and ever got in touch with your gay side you might! ....Billie is the most amazing man ever to walk the planet!
@dethmetal1396 Gay song? This is for a girl. So is Dry Ice, At The Library, and The One I Want, and they are all on the same album so that kinda proves my point. In fact I think the only "gay" song he's ever wrote is Coming Clean
ME TOO (: Ive heard ALOMST every single Green Day song and I first discovered their songs by a KidzBop commercial (lol I was only in like 1st grade then) and it was Wake me up when September Ends, then i found out about them again when 21CB came out (: I ♥ GD
I would like to let you all in on a secret, there is no such thing as a Green Day fan that only likes a couple of songs, or only likes American Idiot and 21st century, I learned of Green Day from American Idiot and it changed my life and my perspective on music and now my favorite album is Kerplunk. Peace the fuck out.
@Sicalin Yes they are, but they're WAY too overplayed. Don't get me wrong, I like american idiot and 21st century breakdown, but its not the same as their earlier songs, like this.
@Dez131065 itz not alwayz bad when pplz start lyking them from listening to 21 guns. but i think it is bad when they say theyre a fan when they havent bothered to find green days older music. i started hearing about them during american idiot, and then the first cd i bought was 21st century breakdown. then american idiot, international superhits, and dookie. and then i use youtube to listen to their other cds ^^
@GoaGreena i don't think you love ALL their songs, i doubt you even know ALL their songs. i wouldn't have complained if you hadn't capiatlized the entire word "all".
for instance i don't love tight wad hill, sick of me and Rest.
@GoaGreena do you know Governator, Lights Out, Favorite Son, Hearts Collide, Like A Rat Does Cheese, The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink, Too Much Too Soon, Shoplifter, When It's Time, Food Around the Corner, D.U.I., Minnesota Girl, Olivia, Dreamcatcher, Stay the Night, and the Angel and the Jerk? O.O even i don't know all of them and i consider myself a Green Day freak
@GoaGreena ...holy shit. Green Day "freak" is an understatement. sorry, it's just that you said your fav Green Day song was boulevard of broken dreams and i thought you were one of those poser fans, who only knew that song and a couple of others. but if you really know and love all those songs... you are the most extreme Green Day freak i know.
Good times! I bought this on 45, yes 45 rpm vinal. I was begged to buy it for 1 or 2 dollars in 1987. Lookout records. John Kiffmeyer was the original drunner.
This is the Green Day nobody knows. I have friends that "like" Green Day, and they only know 21st century breakdown, american idiot, blvd of broken dreams, holiday, and wake me up when september ends. Thats IT. Its sad that my generation grows up on lil wayne and new "rock" bands when this is out there.
@popasoda1900 it was i love tht song but its just that people all of a sudden like them because of that song. i wanted to c how many fans have been with them longer then that (:
@Dez131065 if you're watching this oldie song odds are you are a true green day fan, not some wanna be who only know American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, and their Superhits!
@Dez131065 i dont know whats the problem green day used to be amazing, and now they are STILL amazing green day has been fuckin great since 1989 till now
@coronelkentucky i ment that there are some people who only know them for 21st century.....and then there are some, like the both of us, who have liked them through out thier career
@Dez131065 May I ask you some thing? What exactly is wrong with 21 Guns? Some of us love all of Green Day's music, and we don't put down the ones who only like pre-American Idiot. Why do we get put down? What did we do wrong?
@manateegirl1 haha did i ever say anything negative about 21 guns? you didn't do anything qrong it was simply just a comment to see how many people have been green day fans before that one very commercial song, but theyre is nothing qrong with it
@Dez131065 people say that same shit every time they release a new album that garners any kind of popularity. "I liked them before 21 guns...", "I liked them before American Idiot...", "I liked them before Dookie..."
It's been going on for almost twenty fucking years now. Give it a rest. No one gives a shit.
They had potential with this record, they had potential with their next, then their next, getting better, next one even better, then.....wtf....W.M.G.???, then they got shitty....then their next record even shittier, then even shittier, then even shittier, now they're not even music. As goes the story of the sellout band.
@murcielago06gt green day didn't got shitty they just matured, do we really need people in their late 30s singing about drugs and masturbation? probably not sense they have a wive and kids.
@XAPPLEgatorX41 Idk anything about their new music (21 century breakdown) but I think you can def say that they have gotten progressively worse. Take it as you will, but i want to compare old green day to old em. Both sang about drugs, relationships, the struggles of life, etc... but as they gained more and more popularity, those messages kept getting less and less meaningful.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying they're horrible or anything, you can still listen to either every once ina while, but the songs sure as hell won't have the same effect, meaning or memorability as anything older.I could listen to kerplunk daily and never get tired, but only run through american idiot once and be glad that it's over. Just my two cents.
@GreenDayRoxer1 i see what your saying, im surprised that they didn't quit the band or anything to ditch their old ways, but they are still rocking out, rather sadly that now 12 year old girls listen to them that listen to that fag that no one dares mention.
@carlosalford I "live in the past" because older music is tremendously better than most new music. I say most because I know a lot of bands who still make good music. And none of them are signed to a big label. I hate commericalized music. Has too much of a manufactured sound. I like genuine, raw, and unconventional.
@murcielago06gt you are right, everybody loves old music, i do, but that doesn't mean new music is shit (except for pop) many artist make good music with feeling, commercialized or not they put feeling on the song just like always and maybe 10 years laters youll miss 2000 - 2010
@beingepicisepic I honestly dont remember. But I do remember its from an interview, Its been such a long time since ive listened to that interview I cant really remember. But he did say that.

@Dez131065 if you're watching this oldie song odds are you are a true green day fan, not some wanna be who only know American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, and their Superhits!

@Dez131065 May I ask you some thing? What exactly is wrong with 21 Guns? Some of us love all of Green Day's music, and we don't put down the ones who only like pre-American Idiot. Why do we get put down? What did we do wrong?
manateegirl1 10 months ago
@manateegirl1 haha did i ever say anything negative about 21 guns? you didn't do anything qrong it was simply just a comment to see how many people have been green day fans before that one very commercial song, but theyre is nothing qrong with it
Dez131065 10 months ago
@Dez131065 people say that same shit every time they release a new album that garners any kind of popularity. "I liked them before 21 guns...", "I liked them before American Idiot...", "I liked them before Dookie..."
It's been going on for almost twenty fucking years now. Give it a rest. No one gives a shit.

@Dez131065 I'm guessing you didn't like them before American Idiot, then. It's not like 21 Guns is what made them popular.

At my wedding, this song is SO playing! :) <3
Too bad I gotta wait 15 years or so, I'm only 10, lol

They had potential with this record, they had potential with their next, then their next, getting better, next one even better, then.....wtf....W.M.G.???, then they got shitty....then their next record even shittier, then even shittier, then even shittier, now they're not even music. As goes the story of the sellout band.
murcielago06gt 1 year ago
@murcielago06gt green day didn't got shitty they just matured, do we really need people in their late 30s singing about drugs and masturbation? probably not sense they have a wive and kids.
XAPPLEgatorX41 1 year ago 9
@XAPPLEgatorX41 Idk anything about their new music (21 century breakdown) but I think you can def say that they have gotten progressively worse. Take it as you will, but i want to compare old green day to old em. Both sang about drugs, relationships, the struggles of life, etc... but as they gained more and more popularity, those messages kept getting less and less meaningful.
GreenDayRoxer1 1 year ago
@XAPPLEgatorX41 Cont. because of character limit.
GreenDayRoxer1 1 year ago
@GreenDayRoxer1 i see what your saying, im surprised that they didn't quit the band or anything to ditch their old ways, but they are still rocking out, rather sadly that now 12 year old girls listen to them that listen to that fag that no one dares mention.
XAPPLEgatorX41 1 year ago
@murcielago06gt if you think that, then you dont know recognize new good music and you live in the past
carlosalford 1 year ago
@carlosalford I "live in the past" because older music is tremendously better than most new music. I say most because I know a lot of bands who still make good music. And none of them are signed to a big label. I hate commericalized music. Has too much of a manufactured sound. I like genuine, raw, and unconventional.
murcielago06gt 1 year ago
@murcielago06gt you are right, everybody loves old music, i do, but that doesn't mean new music is shit (except for pop) many artist make good music with feeling, commercialized or not they put feeling on the song just like always and maybe 10 years laters youll miss 2000 - 2010
