And as for Heroin addiction..we got us plenty of that now in the US with all these assholes running around saying that "it's just a pill" I told my buddie's son in law...hey asshole...opiates are opiates and you aint teaching life a fuckin thing.
I would have been around 10/11 when I first heard this track and was blown away by it. Always remembered the lyrics and NEVER took drugs. My fave on the album as a kid though was 'magneto and titanium man'
Jimmy Mc Cullough & Colin Allen wrote this song and it´s Jimmy who sings the lead vocal on this superb Wings tune, it´s lovely !!!! Miss him, this lovely guitarrist!!!
Jimmy tired to warn himself and others about drugs being bad- sad he couldn't take his own advice the drugs killed a young genius nad many others. Jimmy wrote "wino Junko' against drugs too and its even cooler
I had a copy of "Venus and Mars". I played that album, in fact I wore the grooves out. I had my leg amputated that summer. I couldn't walk, so I listened to music.
I bought this album because of songs like " Letting Go" "Magneto and Titanium Man" but damn this album is just good, this one instantly became a favorite.
This song is so sad and it makes me cry, because it reminds of all my friends that are dead. From sticking there hands in the medicine jar one to many times. Like I said before FUCKING DRUG SUCK.
the only Wings song i like, and its not even Paul McCartney's song, nor is he singing lol im not saying McCartney had bad songs, but that Jimmy McCulloch had a lot of talent and a lot of good songs with Wings. he wouldve eventually made it big in on his own.
I remember watchin wings over america back in 79, great guitar player!! Late 70's Paul musically stumbled for a bit, but the overrall picture is greatness!!
Jimmy McCullock wrote this song he was a very talented guitarist .Listen to Something in the air ,by Thunderclap Newman I think he was about 17 years old when it was recorded
He sang this at 22- amazing guitar work too. Could have done so much.....It's great that we have this though. Very sad. Don't give up sad people- you still might do something good for the world and yourself. Like hey- you never know about tomorrow, so don't be thinking you do! Think positive man!
punk made Macca et al. hugely unfashionable but I still really like Venus and Mars and this song in particular. Put that in your butter churn and smoke it Mr Rotten, sir!!
If you do drugs, dont drink and drive,If your drink, dont do drugs and drive,if your going to drink do drugs,if your going to drink, do drugs, and drive come pick me up.pojhvcxz
It was 1978, I was 15 yrs old, when this song blasted from the the speakers in the windows of our music room. My older brother had a crowd gathered outside to play volleyball and BBQ-a weekly event-and I loved to be the DJ! Funny how a certain song can trigger memories. Good music is a must when it comes to good friends and good times. Thanks for posting!
Wow, I was 15, 1978, in a band called Aftershock and since Ringo sang a song in each concert guess what I being the drummer did. Chose this song because of the easy key and our guitarist loved using his wah wah pedal
@Libertine62 My old buddy....His name is Rory..used to say...you go thru addiction.....one way or the other...the street, the hospital..either way you got the monkey on your back. You fight it...or love it...or do both as is the usual...maybe lose it all or come damn close...then maybe you come out the other side, different....you come out the other side....or you don't.
And as for Heroin addiction..we got us plenty of that now in the US with all these assholes running around saying that "it's just a pill" I told my buddie's son in law...hey asshole...opiates are opiates and you aint teaching life a fuckin thing.

Was this song paul McCartney trying to warn jimmy McCullough about his usage of drugs?
Freyja1133 1 year ago
@Freyja1133 Paul didn't write this song. Jimmy wrote the music and a guy named Colin Allen wrote the words.

I named one of my bands after this album. We played this song with just a keyboard and an acoustic guitar. Didn't sound too bad.

One of the best guitarists ever. A professional at 13. Even Macca was impressed and he has seen them all.
