One of our dogs has epilepsy. What the bear did in the last 3-5 seconds before it hit the water is almost identical to what our dog does when she has a seizure. I'm no professional, but I would bet that it had a seizure, and died only because it fell into the water and drowned. The video of the fall into the water is very hard to watch.

I don't get where some people get off with their "So and so are suffering, who cares about an animal' crap. I seriously doubt they apply the same thing to themselves when watching a game. Doubt they go "there are 7,000,000 children dying of hunger every year, what right do I have of worrying about gas prices?
As far as Knut goes, it's a shame he died so young. I made the mistake of seeing the raw video of him dying and that is just distressing.

after the autopsy yesterday, they guess it was probably a brain damge or tumor that has killed Knut.
His brain was bigger than a normal brain.

One of our dogs has epilepsy. What the bear did in the last 3-5 seconds before it hit the water is almost identical to what our dog does when she has a seizure. I'm no professional, but I would bet that it had a seizure, and died only because it fell into the water and drowned. The video of the fall into the water is very hard to watch.

@detourking I've got a cat w/ epilepsy and I concur. That's the 1st thing I thought of when I saw the video of his last seconds. Walking around in circles and then he went stiff and fell over. Seizure for sure.

@Anthony883 Better the bear than a human. I mean it's really very sad that Knut died and nobody was able to help him and I bet that if he wouldn't have been in the water but still on the land. Or would you try to swim up to a panicking polar bear in the water, who tries to frantically gets his nose over the surface? One hit with his paw and you'd be dead.

@Headshock0111 I ammended the date as it was my error as it was 2008 and Thomas was banned from seeing Knut in that year and he did die of a heart-attack after that determination that was made by the berlin zoo. At which point I as you to get not a mis-typed date but a fact of reality being he was banned from the zoo totally because (do you have a nose that can smell?) when Knut smell him he went bezerk ... and that comes from many sources ... so what was your point?

@eplasm My point was that Thomas WAS NEVER BANNED FROM BERLIN'S ZOO!!! Dude, I'm German and I live in Berlin since I'm 5 years old! I know the whole freakin' story about them! Thomas was never banned from Berlins's Zoo. He was the one who raised Knut and died when Knut was around 2 years old! The one who took care of him afterwards was banned from the zoo, because Knut went berzerk on him 'cause he smelled that this wasn't Thomas! I don't care about your sources, I was here when it happened!

@detourking The result of the autopsy was just published. It was found that the ventricles in the brain were enlarged. Although there was water in his lung, it was not the reason of the death. The bear would have died from overpressure in the ventricular system even if it had not fallen into the water, veterinarians said.

I'm very sorry he died but I was just wondering, am I the only one that thinks he looks very thin by bear standards? If you look at the size of his neck and visualize him without fur.... it just seems to me that he is very thin...... no I'm no bear expert but I have been around & worked with alot of different animal species & to me he just looks thin.... I could be wrong and way off base, either way I'm sorry for his passing.
