  • sorry for commenting so much but i have one more question... Did you use a wide-angle lens for this film because the thin black border around this is sometimes a bad part about a wide angle lens, so in overall did you use a wide angle lens while shooting this?

  • It's funny, I didn't really notice that until you mentioned it just now. I shot the movie completely with the basic Panasonic DVX-100 and its built-in lens, didn't change any lenses or anything. I don't remember if this border was on the actual footage or not, I'm guessing it is some kind of rendering or exporting artifact, though I will have to check over the original raw footage sometime to find out...

  • I saw this because it was reccommended to me by a friend of mine because he knew i made movies but now i see where this ties in. Im currently goin to weston high school (freshman) and taking dave's class and i told him about "ariella" and he started talking about you. I just wanted to comment because of all of this but also this concept, this short film was so well made. just coming up with this kind of idea is slim to impossible. well, great movie.-alex (i have commented on BG 7 month ago)

  • You're lucky to be in Dave's class, he's the best film/video teacher I ever met (I'm a junior in college now, still haven't found one as good as him).

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you like the movie. Have fun on your own video sets!

  • I remember talking to you when you were writing this, and in the middle of filming too! It's wonderful, "especially for a high school final".

I would say I can't beleive how good this is, but I'd be lying. I knew all along. It has a definate feel of finality... it seems she was the only one left.

  • Derek, Bryan and Mike, you guys did a terrific job. I am upset that I didn't get to see this until now. I envy your badassitude.

  • Good movie.. Im in middle school right now and I love filming and editing right now... I wish i had Final Cut PRo but I used the mosst uptaed editing version on the MAc computers... I love the setting in this movie.. How did you get the background totally white or totally black? It would be nice of you to send me a message back..-- Alex

  • Sure thing, Alex! The white BG is just a large sheet of white paper, which we over-lit so you can't see the creases or lines. The black BG was similarly done with a wide stretch of black felt, except we lit only the actor and then turned down the exposure to make the rest disappear. It worked better than bluescreen, which would have left jagged edges.

    Good luck with your videos!

  • Oh I don't think I can forgive you! This was horrible...horribly amazing! This is really great especially for a high school final. You must have gotten an A. What video editing software do you use?

  • Phew, I'm glad you liked it!

It was edited with Final Cut Pro.
