saw Wanda at the Montreal jazz festival in july of 2011. she was awesome. brought down the house. she is still great. Doing some stuff with Jack white I think. go see her. definitely worthwhile.
Hey, just wanted to let all know that this song was listed by the Toronto Sun newspaper on Dec. 31, 2011, as one of the top choices of songs to keep your party going on new years eve , so wanda is far from being irrelevant, or fogotten. I didn't even have any input into it. Just wow, there it is, the main music critic says that yeh, listen to this, so happy new year, and I am listening to it right now, thanx
thats exactly what i,m saying mate i personally dont care what rca was marketing in that era no one rocked like wanda , if you havent already check out imelda may she is a modern day wanda in my humble opinion ( i had the fortune too see both live )
@truimphsrule It's not a matter of opinion that Janis Martin was the female Elvis. If you're trying to say That Wanda was the best female rockabilly singer contemporary with Elvis, I wouldn't argue against that opinion. Janis Martin was marketed as the Female Elvis by RCA with the approval of Elvis Presley. Wanda Jackson was great and had a longer more successful career.
I had to remove another positive comment due to use of profane language. Sure you disguised it but if I can understand what you mean so can everyone else. This channel is for everyone - including kids - and I won't let them see profanity here.
I used to listen to this exact version at my nannas house 25 yrs ago when i was 7/8, she had it on 12" vinyl and still does! only just found out who sings it now!! class
@spentfromnz I don't know what's up. I do know that it was written by Jessie Mae Robinson in 1957 and recorded by Elvis Presley for the movie "Loving You". A version of this song was recorded by Wanda Jackson in 1960. Jailhouse Rock was also written in 1957 for Elvis. If they are too much alike I guess that goes back to Elvis.
That's because it's both Rock n Roll and you have this Main Rock n Roll riff in it that you will find in a lot of songs all over the world and time ;)
@spentfromnz it's what peope call a genre, many rock n' roll songs sound alike, just as pop or rock songs do nowadays. It's not like she ripped it off.

"1960–1964: The Queen of Rockabilly
In 1960, Jackson had a Top 40 pop hit with "Let's Have a Party", a song Presley had cut a year earlier."

@spentfromnz Even Blue Suede Shoes fits that mold. Songs of a particular genre (and period) do tend to sound similar.
