If you don't mind me asking, what do you run through besides your Suhr modern custom? You have such a beautiful tone here. There is a good amount of drive, enough so that you can tap with ease, but it is still very clean and pure sounding. I use suhr SSV in the neck and SSH+ in the bridge and the sound is beautiful, but i have a hard time finding a good rig or distortion to tap well without it being all muddy.
Der Anfang vom Solo ist unglaublich geworden :) überhaupt deine ganze improvisation ist hervorragend!! würde gerne mal mit dir proben aber dresden ist leider schon ne große entfernung :(
I actually cannot find the words to describe how well this solo was made. A plethora of techniques, a coherent blending of all of them into different movements of the solo... It's basically a guitarist's wet dream. At 0:40 I was sold. Beautiful solo.
It is often said that space and silence defines music. Likewise, for high to be special there must be low, and for fast to be special there must be slow. Your skills are excellent, but if you would let it breathe a little once in a while (and let the guitar sing), the runs would be even more special :)
This was a "how to have a new favorite guitarist of all time in 54 seconds" tutorial. Very soulful. You're on the way to become a legend. Truly amazing :)
just passing through... I just love this solo, it's a guitar fans dream, a boat load of cool licks, and picking options... this one needs a guitar lesson to show how it's done!! Great job man.

Love your style and discipline! Your playing reminds me of Frank Gambale but what's scary is I think your a bit better than he is! And with another 15 to 20 years of legitimate growth potential, that is flat out frightening. Very refreshing to see this caliber of play from your generation. All the best to you and keep up the hard work! Ron Gomez
Hi, Martin! That`s the way to do it! Lots of different techniques, loads of cleanly executed melodic lines! Time, tone, touch, technique; you got it! Best of luck!
Damn Martin! that was one satisfying minute! When did you start playing? I feel like i personally started a little late, when i was 16, gonna keep practising my Suhr though.!
Every time I listen to Neil Young playing a solo, two notes but, quoting Bill Hicks "coming from his fucking heart!" I, as a musician, think that technique is a cage. I want to be able to exit from the cage some time. What do you think about it? many compliments for all your passion. Ulisse
@ulissegarnerone I think technique has the opposite effect, it frees up my mind as I can start focusing on what I want to express instead of how in the world I'm going to make it happen. Greets,
@ElWischi Man I just get a buzz from it all, the enthusiasm shines through, note density has no relevance for me. I felt like a child in a sweet shop, so many things to pick from!
@ElWischi How much gain do you use when you do shred type licks. I've been keeping mine at around 12:00 on the dial, but i find it harder to play faster/ cleaner what do you typically do?
@ElWischi Exactly, and you don't need to reduce your ideas to what you can actually play. And by the way, awesome solo, you're great guitarist Martin!
@ulissegarnerone I would argue that a lack of technique is a cage. Technique is just another tool of expression, and the more tools you have to express yourself, the better, surely? Obviously technique is not the only thing required though - players who play with no feeling and all technique are terrible IMO. Great guitar players have a good balance of both technical and melodic . There's a time and a place for everything - the problem for most people is knowing when the right time is...
technique is only a cage if you don't add phrasing to that technique. technique is a way to escape typical guitar playing, far from the opposite. it just takes practice turning that technique into something tasteful.
Martin this was awesome! surely one of your best solos! why don't you upload a video running through your gear sometime? I am very curious to see what equip you use...
Hendrix, SRV, Philip Sayce, John Petrucci, Alex Hutchings, Van Halen, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Eric Johnson, Gary Moore, Andy Timmons, Martin Miller!
I love how you pace/mix-up your legato and staccato ideas as well as your blend of melodic-versus-shred ideas. Even though your style is completely your own and NOT reminiscent of Rick Graham's in general, your blend of staccato-vs-legato and melody-vs-shred are also why I enjoy Rick's (and your) styles so much! I also love the rock tone & feel applied to fusion-harmony/not-choice!
