No........ It is freaky. Kids are treated like adults and adults are getting more like kids each day. What a great way to encourage online sickos, get a 7 year old an iphone... They shouldn't even KNOW what a mobile phone is! Makes me so angry. If I had kids I will say... When you get a job, earn money and buy a phone.
The tips you cited are very helpful! Let me add that it is best for children to have a simple cell phone to control their phone usage and the one that has PERS features as well to secure their safety.

KIDS shouldn't use cell phones. Their skulls are not very thick and developed, and they are MUCH more vulnerable to the powerful radio signal emitted by cells. Did you know that the cell you hold to your head can send signals five miles or more? What's that doing to the brain?
I agree with other commentors. I think giving a child a cell phone has to do a lot with maturity and responsibility. Parents need to be comfortable and confident with the idea of their child having a cell phone.
i have one of the coolest cells out "motorola Q" and im 11 so wat i dont have tracking device in my phone i was told the rules im responcible enough for it i have unlimited texting i was told i could get it takin away if i abuse it is not the age its the matureity and responsibility that ur child has that you neeed to worry about
For example, if you are a mom with an attitude (for example you say it to ur husband) "I'm going to the gym, I'm meeting my friend and don't dare calling and interrupting, I need some time with her, I haven't seen her for ages"...and at the same time you "equip" your child with GPS...there is going to be a CONFLICT. Giving a person freedom -means respect.
No matter what sex the child is, he or she picks up the most from observing their father. Don't ask Me why, thats how it is and experts agree. I remember how I saw my dad avoiding calls from his customers, how he was coming up with excuses and was rejecting people on the phone who were a great business opportunity...surely, soon I've noticed that I was doing the exact same thing. Remarkably I had enough courage to say "I'm going to change that" and...it took 2 years to recondition myself.
Children learn 80% of actions from observation of their parents. If you know that your child have seen you talking on the phone with strangers, give out numbers to people who have not credentials or status, avoiding calls, blocking numbers...be assured that your child will do the same. If you were giving your contact info only to trusted people, then there is no issue about that for your teen. Teach teens how people can play tricks with them and influence them or play "games" etc.
What will the child link in their nervous system if they be "monitored" on their cellphone? While I was a teen, I observed strange and neurotic behavior of those, including my gf, who had restrictions set on the cellphone use. While teens who was free to use cellphone were much more talkative and open. Obviously, its not the phone that is the issue, it is whole attitude of parents. There is enough information available today, and issues of safety are everywhere. Let teen make choices.
Once a Parent of 5 kids been asked -how do you keep all ur kids in check? He said - I do not have many rules. More rules you put on your child, more of them will be broken. It is much better to get your child a cell phone and say "This is how you keep in touch with Me and important people in your life. Choice is yours who you talk to." Such preassumption will show your respect to your child and they have to live up to such expectation.

As a teen, I like that you encourage parents to be honest with their kids and not lie about something like a GPS on their phone

The GPS is a great thing on a phone-but the kids should definitely know about it :)
laurandstuff 2 years ago
It definitely depends on who the kid is and the GPS thing is definitely something parents should tell their kids

very good video, i think it all depends on the child and if they are ready for one or not.
