  • The part at 0:10 into in where you are playing the 2nd position of Em Pentatonic... Eric Johnson plays it in the 1st position. Your tab you learned it from is wrong, all the 5th frets you are playing should be open strings.

  • @justinhoman I saw a lesson with eric johnson himself where he said he doesn't play any open strings there

  • @jordan0204 If you're talking about the Stage 6 interview where he says "I dont THINK I play any open strings there", he doesn't give a definite answer. In this case you're wrong. He plays it open, then with the 5th frets. Then on the 3rd time he plays the first 3 strings with open then the next 3 with a hybrid of 5-2-0. In live performances it matters where he trails from, he can do an album version, or from the 5th step to the 3rd step where its open. The latter he does more.

  • @reaper32274 AMEN BROTHA!!!

  • hey man there's a mistake in the first part. when you teach the first part you forget like 3 notes check it out please

  • great job man! this helped me so much!

  • Wowww, that was insane, great work you're very talented, i think i'll start to learn this when i get a bit faster and my co-ordination up. Thankyou very much for uploading!

  • Do you pick each note separately? Or is it lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs? I can't quite tell when it's played fast. It sounds very smooth so it sounds like legato.. haha.

  • too hard im 12 years old. when i learn this ill be playing with Jimi Hendrix

  • @cooperboy13 I'm only 16, I began playing guitar at age 14. You can learn anything that you put your mind to. Just practice. I actually tried to learn this song when i started playing too. Just learn diffrent songs, listen to new people, and most importantly gain strength on your left hand. Then come back to this song, It'll be very easy to play.

  • @oOTh4TKiiDOo I know i said tht i couldnt play through the fire and the flames solo cuz there are no tabs to it so i did it by my ear, now i can play it

  • @cooperboy13 Rock On!!!

  • @cooperboy13 Dont worry brother I have been playing for 15 years and its difficult for me. You can play anything with a little practice. Its frustrating because it takes so long but once you get it you will have learned so much. Sometimes playing things that you dont think you can do is the best thing to learn because if you just pick it up fast then you really havnt learned anything. Keep playing brother and dont give up on this song. You will get it.

  • Very Good!!! but, what are your settings??

  • tabz please

  • haha "I can't do it slow" - Did you learn it fast all time or what? :b

  • tab please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice vid but you missed a part in the lesson that you played at the beggining that i picked up myself somewhere else lol.... check it out... .. also it would be a better lesson if you just played the notes instead of calling them out as you played them cause it got really annoying cause i couldnt hear them.. jus sayin

  • nice vid but you missed a part in the lesson that you played at the beggining that i picked up myself somewhere else lol.... check it out.

  • Very nice job. You are a credit to YouTube. I wish I had the patience to learn this!

  • pike u tramp!

  • me encanto tu player "pike" :D

  • your hands are a musical talent sent from god, you rock! i'm dying to learn to play that song both ways, with guitar hero and with a real guitar, you are amazing!

  • I tried playing this but I can't get the picking for the 15th fret on the E string

  • Comment removed

  • AMAZING TONE !!!AMAZINF SKILLS !!! JUST LIKE ERIC..

  • hey man great lesson but i am having some trouble learning the intro :( .... im having trouble with the picking not so much the left hand! do u use economy picking for the intro? or have any suggestions?

  • to fast if u ask me.

  • Very well played.

  • Wut tone settings do u use wen playing this?

  • it's always cool to see someone who has the excact same guitar as you

  • Who cares about gibson es335 or the tone?? Maybe I'm a bit ignorant to the whole technical world of electric guitars and amps but this sounds AMAZING to me. And I think this is a great video. You're a great teacher =)

  • dude the intro was a little slow man like the very very beginning man but u played it perfect man props dude

  • Nice!, But i realy not want to learn the intro.

I think only the outro is good :)

  • Nice one bro. You are great

  • your goin so fast that even you mess up what u say.

  • thank you sooo much an actual step by step vid for the intro ^^

  • brother that was awesome

  • naaaaaa you are great...but you can teach song in videos...for something are invented the guitar pro...sorry for my bad english

  • Wow, maybe some day. Great playing man.

  • are you willing to share what effects/amp you are running the guitar through, as well as the guitar itself? thank you.

  • Man you rock thanks for teaching us Cliffs of dover

  • what exactly is your software called

  • I HATE playing the intro

  • finally a good ,lesson thank you !

  • very well played.

i´m just wondering, how long did it take you to play it at full speed and do you have any tips how to improve your picking speed, because that´s where I am lacking speed big time. Any advice is welcome. I´m trying to improve my speed by using a metronome, but I´m not even half way there....

  • just make tabs dude

  • hey dude your really good but slow down because not everyone is as good as u so u need to just take more time and show exactly what your doing

just a tip u should get more viewers and subscribers from doing that

  • Dude i dont care if anyone says u went to fast you are AWESOME!!!!!! I honestly never thought i could play this song and i easily learned the intro thanks to you =D. Now i just have to play it up to speed lol im at like 30% speed, if you have any tips to get me used to playing faster please tell

  • Tritonefascination you do an awesome job with this video-lesson. It helped me out a lot- thanks bro!

    -Jeff

  • you know that you can do a part 1 and 2 right??

  • Man your tone is incredible. And your playing is nearly flawless. I'd kill for your talent!

  • thanks so much for makin this video ! it's so hard to find videos that aucutally teach you on youtube. thanks a lot, man !

  • how can I get Eric Johnson clean sound. I have the memory man.

do I need the echoplex tape delay?

what pedal can I use, instead of buying the expensive echoplex.

    thank you.

  • @johnmoundr - The Boss DD-20 is great for delay simulations. You could go for the TC Nova Delay pedal aswell, but I think the options are better on the DD-20.

    Matt.

  • u got tabs for this bro?

  • great playing, shit teaching

  • I think you forgot to tell us to pick from 15 fret B string to 12 Fret e string in the intro,

  • @0:20 Look how fast he moves his leg, this guy is NOT human,

This is just his plan to take over the world!

    Thanks for the tutorial!

  • you did forget a phrase in the slowed down beginning section-

    other than that nice

  • Killer - beautiful playing, tone, expression. I should work this into my Country stuff - that would be a bit of a surprise to those who think they know what is coming next!

  • hi, there's something i don't understand... i'm following what you play with my (official) tab of the cliffs of dover and your first part of the intro is exactly the same that what's written when you play it fast but it doesn't match when you break it down. i think you forgot notes after you said "fifteen on the b and 12 on the b" (the second time)

  • Great playing...

  • Nice video! Thanks for posting this.

  • i was just wondering, there is a lot of notes that you could just pull off to, could you do that or do you think it would sound way to half ass.

  • is this in standard tuning?

  • Great job doing this! thanks for all your help =]

  • Ur going through it way 2 fast

  • ensina a musica toda muito legal

  • nice! you made me learn it. Check out my cover on my channel, it's still not perfect though

  • i prefer just listen

  • slow it down some please........ if your worried about the time being under ten minutes.... make the video in different parts

  • You left about 7 notes out of your slow explanation (about 1:21) and then added them back in when you played it up to speed. You might consider recutting the slow explanation.

  • @myonlydanger I noticed that. Actually I had to play the full speed part over 5 times in order to get it right, but other than that, this is an excellent video, and I thank you for uploading it. I was trying to learn it out of the original EJ version, and it was taking me way too long! You have a very clean technique BTW; keep it up.

  • just lettin u guys know, not tryin to be an asshole and point out mistakes or nothin but at 1:39 its the 14th note on the4 D, not the 12th. just tryin to help

  • Killer job and tone!!

  • Do you pick every note?

  • and an EJ strat too???? nice!

  • Comment removed

  • very nice! amazing

  • very good!!

  • Real nice reverb effect

  • the kissing sounds are because the crown your sitting on is a tad creaky

  • dammn man that's a nice tone !

  • at 5:17 what he says it is higherly pick or something like that, i couldnt listen

  • @MrFluffay

he says it's hyrbrid picked, which is a combination of your pick and fingers

  • you left out notes in the beginning man not so good

  • Nice man!

  • Very nice example

  • how do u get that sound n your guitar? ive tried everything to get that sound and i cant get it. some one please tell me

  • high delay and reverb.

  • i have a basic amp, i dont have a reverb nob or a delay nob.

  • they're pretty standard on most amps, just upgrade to a decent amp.

  • ok, thats wat i will have to do then. thanks

  • uhh awesome but i couldnt learn more the the very first part... i think u kinda wanted to get it over with and sped up too much or something after. Great playing though! :)

  • That's GREAT, one of the best version ever!!!!!

    5stars :)

  • Wow dude!! you rock!! one of the best cover/lessons I've ever seen, i've been playing for a year now and i can totally see myself playing this very soon!!!

    Cheers!!

  • I dont have the patience To learn this intro rofl

  • @xxmegabunkxx

than sorry, you''re not the winner...

  • @xxmegabunkxx dnt give up.

  • @xxmegabunkxx lol i hear u on that one

  • fuckin A man slow down. Good video but this is a really complex song, take some time to review and explain stuff.

  • When you were showing us how to play the notes in the beginning you definitely left some out.

  • i didnt know outro was a work 5/5

  • I play the intro Extactly note for note like you show us when you play it slow, but for some reason it just DOES NOT sound like the right way when played fast =[ I just cant get the timing down! Thanks for this video though! VERY helpful and done well!

  • it must be your tuning...=/

  • nah man EJ uses the bridge for this tune as you should too cuz ur sound is there. the strat sounds too les paul like in that position, givin ur tone settings.

  • yeah actually i dont like the tone in this video. it was recorded with a solid state amp, which is part of the problem. but in actuality ej recorded cliffs of dover with a gibson es335, which is a semi hollow body with humbuckers. live he generally uses strats, but in the latest dvd release he played it with a gibson sg. in any case, its pointless to try to recreate the tone of the studio version in a live setting. no one will get it.

  • hey are you using a pedal to play this?

  • @tritonefascination its awsome tone what kind of amp

  • a little fast, u mind slowin it down just a little?

  • i would have. ive had a lot of requests to do so, but the video has to be under 10 minutes for free youtube account users. sorry

  • @tritonefascination

You could have broken it up into two parts, I think that would have worked well -- It does seem pretty fast. Thanks anyway though for the vid, I'll just have to rewind it a bunch of times >.< lol

  • @tritonefascination

FYI, now you can upload webcam videos up to 15 minutes in length. Just make sure to be louder with your voice when you speak.

  • @tritonefascination You could have made a part 2

  • thank you soo much!!!

  • ok one more thing what amp settings do u need i know many people have asked but i have not really found that clear of an answer so can someone please answer this question

  • Did you miss a small bit when instructing on the very first bit of the intro ? You played it when you slowed it down a bit. But i think you missed it out when intstructing. And it's just a little too fast for me to figure out by ear.

  • he definately did man, was soundin good playin along with him then i was like...right he added notes or forgot to explain them.lol

  • If you go onto his other video of cliffs of dover. he does the missing bit nice and slow ;)

  • hang on, on the other video he plays the missing notes, so you can find them there so its all good

  • u did a good job but some parts just not really explained maybe i should just slow down i can almost play the whole intro i can play after the intro to the end of the chorus and im only 12 i have also been playing for a year so for everyone that says its to hard practise play hsrd and u will get it

  • Really good help mate ;) I'm not a particularly fast player. this is my challenge at the moment. Great lesson ;)

  • sweet as

  • Dam good job!!! If I could play this half as good as you.. I be very proud of myself!

  • Thanks alot for this tut! really helped me, you didn't play it as fast as eric but as you said in another vid. who will? really nice job man, keep it up:)

    Greetings from SWEDEN

  • är du svensk?

  • Haha ah?:P

  • yeah my guitar amp combo is shit but this video helped atleast know what to play and how to play it thanks:)

  • ur sounds is perfect sir.. can i have any idea for that tone??? how to sounds like EJ?

  • hello ;)

    i've got some questions ;)

could U tell me how can i get that perfect sound? What EFXs U use? I've got only chorus, flanger , delay and reverb. What i have to use?

    GRAET VID ;)

    Greetings from POLAND.

  • where do u get ur tabs

  • googel

  • thanks for doing it again ur awesome

  • Kissing noises? Yes . . . strings caught in the nut, perchance?

Fantastic work here, TF - very difficult to instruct this stuff when you're breaking it all down, I realise.

  • or just a squeaky chair...

  • AWESOME !!!!!

  • jajjajajajsajajajajaja chevere oero iron maiden es mejor

  • Yep lianproductions is right he left out a part at the beginning before he does the first speed up

  • thanks for posting this, its very helpful but would u happen to have a tab?

  • Well god damn man, you really have skills. its good to see your putting them to use

  • hey i have a question about the first part of the intro- at the part where you explain at about 1:12, and then play it shortly after, it sounds like there were notes you left out explaining-- does it have to be to speed to sound exactly like how you played it?

  • ya i think i hear two notes left out.

  • very good playing :D

check out my intro version on my channel and tell me if there are any mistakes :/

  • what he explained in the very first part, and what he plays semi sped up, are two different things

  • i stuffed up big time

    very hard

  • thanks man ur the best ive seen so far^^ and ive seen a lot so far;) ur like my new teacher hahaha very nice video:D

    thanks again!:D

  • tritonefascination: can you post a video without all the "16, E 13, 8, D 3" stuff, it only confuses me, I would like a half speed where you don't stop or talk. PLEASE! for us "ear only" guys. best in notes and tone I've heard yet, thanks!

  • So right to say it, btw this guy is a "pro" dude! xD

  • man...i'm just loving your tone dude...

  • Wow. I finally learned this entire intro. I've been playing for about a month now, and i can play about 2 minutes of the entire song, at around half speed. This tutorial helped so much. Huge thanks for making this vid.

  • dont make thye same mistake that i did if you are just starting playing then dont try learning songs specially not hard ones start learning scales then chords get your fingers stron and your picking then in three years youre ready to go it will be so easy learning this

  • i beg to differ i have only ben playing 2 years and this song isn't hard to learn

  • it isnt hard to year when you've only been playing for 1 year either! ;)

  • i know, its not the learning, its the speed. i've been playing for 5 years and even though this hasnt been my major concern, i still cant play it that fast, allthough i am getting faster.

  • wait so at around 5:52 you use another finger also?

  • thank you very much

  • Cool learnt whole of intro, nice one man now i know intro the verse? bit and the chorus? bit

  • i love this tutorial but i dont understand the part with the 15th fret and thet 19 and 17th fret.

  • look at tabs

  • it sonds like the firt lick expaiatoin is missing somthing

  • Yeah!!

  • Yo u play good as shyt son....but if your making a tutorial to help people you gotta slow that shyt down brotha...ur tryna teach way to fast and this is isnt an easy song to learn! You gotta go slow my man!

  • w t f ...... did u make gestures with ur hand while writing?

  • if you are learning a song this advance then you should be adavanced enough to follow what he is saying.

  • agreed.

  • its perfect its just that you need to know how to play and have expirince its not like your gonna learn how to play like eric johnson in ur 1st year playiong guitar man it take time
