ok guys i was woundering if i should get a 8800 gtx ultra or a 8800 GTS i have heard good and bad about both and not sure which is more value for money i play alot of games mainly DX10 like bioshock and oblivion (with expantion) my last graphic card just died it was a 8400 GT my other system specs

CPU: Athlon duel core 3ghz

Ram: SDDR 2 gigs

OS: Vista

HD: 500 gigs

Cooling: Water and fan

To start off go for one of the G92 or G94 based cards. This will usually be stated in the product description. There are a few models of this; 8800GTS (G92), 8800GT (G92) and 9600GT (G94). The 8800GTS is similar to the 8800 ultra, 8800GT just worse than the 8800GTX and the 9600GT is worse than the 8800GT by a fair bit but still very good.

If you have that much money to spend i would recommend 2x 9600GT in SLI if your motherboard will support it or the 8800GTS if you want a single card solution.

Considering they bought out the mid range card before the high end suggests that they are still trying to get a powerful card to fill the high end slot. Also the 9800 series card are all G92 based so I wouldn't expect anything spectacular. At least not what the 8 series was over the 9.

2000:1 contrast ratio is good, but its no way near some other monitors also the difference between 2ms and 5ms response time is not worth losing valuable image quality.

I use LG monitor at the moment which is 22", 5ms response time, 5000:1 contrast ratio and 300cmd.
