The reason for the decline of Bridgeport, very simply, is that the manufacturig industries that were the foundation of its economy for so many years closed their factories and shipped their jobs overseas, which happened in a number of manufacturing-heavy cities in America in the 70's - 80's. Though I'm young, a lot of my family has come from the Bpt area, and I still have some family living there. I really cant understand most of these foolish posts. Bridgeport is the "way it is" due soley to the decline of manufacturing in The US. 25 years ago, GE on Boston Ave employed about 3000 people. That was ONE FACTORY. There was 20 other small businesses around the plant that all employed people. They are ALL GONE. Now, multiply this by ALL THE OTHER FACTORIES that are GONE. Here's a few other examples, Remington, Jenkins Valves, Bridgeport Machines, Hubbell, Carpenter Steel, etc, etc.

I don't care whether the liberals on here like it or not, but the truth can't be denied. Once all the minorities came into Bridgeport, it went downhill. You can call me any name you want - racist, bigoted, closed-minded, ignorant - it doesn't make what I've said any less true. The influx of minorities has turned a once proud city into a hell hole and I was there to witness it.
Yes some of the blame can go to corrupted politicians that only look to benefit themselves. Who only care about what makes them look good and how this will impact getting reelected back into office. People with there hands out and only look into what is best for them need to get out of politics. Can we blame all the problems with the city of Bridgeport on politicians? No, the blame also needs to be pointed at us the citizens of Bridgeport.
Yes the City of Bridgeport did have a proud past back in the industrial age. Were people had a sense of community, employment, and respect for each other. There were good paying jobs for people who had little education but had a good work ethic and understood what it meant to earn a dollar. Let us not make fun of our past but be proud of who we our and what we did for the city at that time.
Burn the whole city and start over.

The reason for the decline of Bridgeport, very simply, is that the manufacturig industries that were the foundation of its economy for so many years closed their factories and shipped their jobs overseas, which happened in a number of manufacturing-heavy cities in America in the 70's - 80's. Blight and crime are all after-effects of a city's economy collapsing. If you want someone to blame, blame the companies that abandoned the city and left it for dead. The city of Bridgeport was incorporated 12 years before that, and the city's growth came almost entirely after that point. Though I'm young, a lot of my family has come from the Bpt area, and I still have some family living there. I really cant understand most of these foolish posts. Bridgeport is the "way it is" due soley to the decline of manufacturing in The US. 25 years ago, GE on Boston Ave employed about 3000 people. That was ONE FACTORY. There was 20 other small businesses around the plant that all employed people. They are ALL GONE. Now, multiply this by ALL THE OTHER FACTORIES that are GONE. Here's a few other examples, Remington, Jenkins Valves, Bridgeport Machines, Hubbell, Carpenter Steel, etc, etc.

Yes the City of Bridgeport did have a proud past back in the industrial age. Were people had a sense of community, employment, and respect for each other. There were good paying jobs for people who had little education but had a good work ethic and understood what it meant to earn a dollar. Let us not make fun of our past but be proud of who we our and what we did for the city at that time.
