For religious reasons, she can't show her midriff. There are a lot of dances done with full-covering costumes.

@nikomida : not really for religious reasons. It was just the style in the late sixties into the seventies. Some dancers are still wearing that style because they just like it. Just like the big hair of the eighties, some ladies still wear that style because they like. If religion has anything to do with it, they wouldn't dance in the first palce. don't miss-intreprit what I'm saying please. I'm not judging her of being religious or not.

@ademonprotectsher actually if you look at the history of bellydance, it was hollywood that inspired the present bellydance outfits in the 20's and 30's on - before that women danced fully clothed, no doubt with emphasis on the hips such as hip scarves or the like ..... so what you see nowadays really isn't 'true'bellydance, more a 'hollywood-ized'version of a very lovely cultural tradition....

Such a wonderful, natural dancer. Soheir exudes class. As for the person so 'shocked' by naked legs - there are women everywhere wearing skirts which reveal their legs on a daily basis. There is nothing at all wrong with this. I personally keep my legs covered out of choice, simply because I don't like my legs, but I don't condemn those who bare theirs, and I certainly don't consider them 'dirty cows'. Oh, and I bellydance (for my own love of the dance)

Maybe you aren't familiar with classic Egyptian dance; THIS is belly dance at its bet. Look, learn and love it.  When you consider these women can dance an hour and mesmerize their audiences, you understand she isn't boring at all but a true artist. Classic dancers didn't do tricks, they only danced and did it beautifully.

Hi Zara. I just started taking private belly dance lessons, but I have been teaching myself for over 30 years. I am particularly happy with many of the instructional DVD's that have come on the market in the past few years. I only dance for myself in the privacy of my bedroom, because I love the Arabic/Middle Eastern music so much. Maybe someday I will dance for a lover, if I am ever lucky enough to have one. LOL.
