i thought it was interesting. i practice Goju-Kai gojuryu and Seisan is one of our kata, ours is done differently, but there are a lot of similar elements. i used to train with a woman who had a Shodan in Chito Ryu, and she showed me some kata, very intersting. until then i hadn't really seen other styles up close.
@rockloverdude It is a shame that you are so desperate for attention that you feel you have to make insulting comments on YouTube. I feel sad for you.
@Iguanasan you should feel reletively fit if your a martial artist. I am and before I was fat. and if u actually kicked no doubt u couldent reach over the pot belly. - - no offence to japanese martial arts but the block where you swing your arm out is useless. Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do have way better techniques plus more fluidity
@rockloverdude Ahh, I stand corrected. You study Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do. Obviously, you are far superior to me. Thank you for taking the time to help me understand.
@rockloverdude as a style, Chito Kai does not demand a whole lot of physical fitness. Just as long as you can successfully manipulate momentum and physics using precise technique, you can become an effective fighter in the style. Is that not what they teach you in Wing Chun? Speaking of which, Chito Kai takes A LOT from Wing Chun, especially the stances and punch configurations.
@rockloverdude just as you believe you are better than many karate-ka. there are many who study karate (chito-ryu or not) that could defeat you or even your master. Martial arts has no "ultimate style" by nature. Training in martial arts is not focused in combat alone but also in one's character. It is this, I believe, you lack. Best of luck in your training.
Actually the fastest man I've ever seen (second to Bruce Lee) was a 10th degree black belt in Akijitsu. He was easily 80-100 pounds overweight, but is technique was so fast you almost didn't see it. Obviously, your mind is pretty slow and dimwitted - which is the true burden in karatedo. Stop being a punk, show respect to other martial arts and artists, and go back to reading your comic books. I bet you yell "Reverse Punch!", before doing the technique like they do in Pokemon.
@rockloverdude Each martial art has its strong and weak points. There is no perfect martial art and it depends on the fighter and execution, not the art. My karate teacher has his Shichidan (8th rank, not often used in ranking system) black belt, and I'm only Shodan (1st rank) black belt. He's got a beer belly and he can STILL catch my fastest punches and kicks. And I've been 4th place in nationals, so I'm not pathetically slow. I study Okinawan karate too; Goju Ryu
A few things I noticed....little hip movement.Your punches never finished on your center line where a person is strongest.Go back and do the kata with the intent of fighting.Right now it is just choreography.Take each technique and try them against an uke.You may be disappointed.Keep up the work."We are always striving for new levels of correctness".
hmm I don't like those katas. Too static. (maybe it's because I practice shorinjiryu shindo style).
Anyway, your positions are great on this kata. Your balance is a bit fragile when you're doing uraken uchis" at 28" to 38". That's only an opinion from a second orange belt in shirinjiryu :)
Hey, Foxaline, thanks. Remember that we may do things a little differently here in Canada so you have to check with your Sensei to make sure you are doing it correctly. Say "hi" to Sensei Tze!
How come when you let a Man know that you are fully capable of protecting yourself, that same man will want to test you? He becomes obsessed with the idea of defeating you. ?
I train in Okuno Ryu, which has Chito roots, and this kata looks similar to what we do, only some minor differences- for example after the first set of punches and the turn we do crane wing hands, rather than the single knife hand.
your stances look a little lacking from behind - but otherwise it's interesting to see the small differences in these kata. i train in chito-ryu in ottawa. :).
i train under seibukan okinawan karate where it demands more power and waist movement. after looking at others in chito ryu i come to realize that its not you its the movements that don't have much power. kata is an imaginary fight, in my opinion i think movements should be effective and show good body mechanics with power.
Well, you are right, as I re-watch myself I was a little light with the hip action. As for the differences between Seibukan and Chito-Ryu, I'm sure one could write a book. Chito-Ryu has a different philosophy. As my old sensei used to say, "there are many roads to the top of the mountain but the view from the top is the same". Now I think I'll go watch some Seibukan kata... :D
Do you think it's weak everywhere or on just certain areas? Anything specific you can point to? "weak kata" is a criticism that is hard to use as a tool to improve my kata.
hey im pretty sure i trained with you at a clinic a while back my sensi is leo gene donovan were from the tip of cape breton and we held the higashi clinic last spring
Thanks for the kata demo. I am trying to get the moves down and your vid is a great help!

Really, it's all relative to the style you use.

Okiniwan Karate is what I truly respect

@rockloverdude I doubt an Okinawan dojo would take a punk like you in. Please feel free to leave the US and go find out.
