Anecdotally - in the early days, I often travelled in the front coach - and around the time this happened, I would have been having a shower in the bathroom at the END of the coach. That's the section you can see has been PANCAKED in the crash. Another bullet dodged...
That's a GE loco servicing for 13 years but with the vigilance device not working and the driver was drowsy under flu pills and had inhaled steaming smog leaking into the cab. The train was going at 105, but the SRT had set the default speed at 90 for the maximum. GE may be able to answer.
