  • One of the few living grand masters of the last century - the age of the masters.Still hasn't lost her touch.Quite unlike Gitlis, whose abilities have deteriorated and rusted.I hope you have more years ahead of you, Ms.Haendel!Bravo as always.

  • I saw all the gigantic violinists and at the end this lady made me to cry...

  • Wow my parents just met this woman and it turns out we only live a few blocks from her. She told us she was a famous violinists and I didn't believe her but apparently. Its true. Awesome! !!

  • I CANT GET ENOUGH .

  • She was 78 years old when she did this recording. Amazing! Shame the picture ratio was set at widescreen, when it should have been 4:3. Nice video though. Thanks.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Bravo! Bravo! She has such amazing composure and vitality in her playing. Were her eyes watering during the slow section? Again, bravo!

  • awesome :)

  • awesome, like

  • she's brilliant!!!!

  • Is he really Mintz? I thought he is Perlman...

  • I wish my grandma can do that...

  • 1:02-1:09 she just throws it off like its nothing. The show of a true virtuoso

  • piano seems a little overpowering in the fast part

  • Dios la bendiga ... precioso regalo de esta mujer.

  • this is very cool and her name has PABLO in it? that's even more awesome lol

  • @pavlo0001 Pablo is the composers name

  • very good

  • Woooooooooow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no comment.

  • The audience isn't laughing. First of all, they're smiling because they're watching the last living legend of the high time of violin playing - I'd be smiling, too. Secondly, they're smiling and almost giddy with each other because, obviously, there are many many musicians in the audience. Vadim Repin, Shlomo Mintz, and others. A violinist's dream to hear this incredible musician live.

  • @adamlamotte I agree with you. I am a musician and would smile (and cry) also.Just a little correction:

at 2:05 you can see not Vadim Repin but Vadim Gluzman.Best wishes.

  • @adamlamotte I just got to see her live a couple of weeks ago at the Montecito Music Festival and she played Zigeunerweisen and it was completely amazing!

  • @adamlamotte

    Vadim Gluzman

  • @adamlamotte your absolutely right, I would even says that they are looking at this and thinking ''WTF? how is this still possible at this age? this is just NOT normal'' ;)

  • man! how i understand all these people crying in the audience... notice the men, a hand in the face, kind of hiding their tears... feeling the passion at 2:02, it is excruciating. Really, what an exceptionnal interpretation!

  • amazing!

  • man. this is remarkable! a little thing that i noticed is after the pizz, the took a big breath as if she was tired. thumbs up if you noticed.

  • What are the audience members laughing at?

  • It does look BIG! It is because, I think, Ida is so diminuitive....

  • cihat aşkın bile orda vay be bi tek ben yokum tüh.....

  • Is her bow longer than an average sized bow? Looks enormous

  • Mythic!!! 1:06 : What a movement! The bow 'sounds' like a sword!

3:08 : Fantastic!!! I'm amazed! 6:16: The 'click' is fantastic! 7:30: FAAAAAAAAAABULOUS... Her face says something like: I'm marvelous.

    Lost my breath!!!

  • its totally remarkable that she plays like THAT at this age! The intonation in the fast and high passages is really safe... and thats not even the case if perlman plays. She is one crazy woman ;)

  • The bow is longer or it just looks longer?

  • @Nostravitagadiel I think she is just really really tiny....she's almost the same height as the pianist and he's sitting down. The violin even looks bigger compared to her.

  • Ida Haendel was born in 1928, so she was 78 when she played this.

  • wonderful amazing ida haendel thank's

  • Out of curiousity, what kind of piano is that accompanying her?

  • geez us.

  • It's amazing to see someone at this age still be able to play this good. I'll be happy to be able to still walk at 78

  • I can't believe she was 78 in this video, and still had amazing hands.

  • WOWWW!!!!! I have tears in my eyes she is amazing I love her!!!!one of a kind!

  • Ms.Haendel is really among the great violin virtuose of our times, even those guys who are laughing agree or not !

  • laugh all they want, they'll never be as good as her

  • ela é ótima! pena q é meio bizarra

  • Even now she has so unbelievable skill and musicality I cried after this performance... simply beautiful.

  • I hate it when people don't enjoy the true beauty of music.... ARGH! I want to slap those idiots who are laughing.! As if it's funny. IT'S BEAUTIFUL! I love the emotion put into this piece I really wished I could link my emotions even more to the music I play!

  • @alinaeck these people arnt laghing at her therire coligues of her one of the is Shlomo Minz

  • is she closing her eyes or just looking down?

  • Ida is a hell of a woman and a violin virtuoso, a great pleasure to encounter her terrific unique skills... and the audience is BORED!!! unbelievable..

  • I couldn't help but scream "WOOOHOOO" when she ended. gawwwdd I'd love to meet her

  • People in the public are so rude.I'm a violonist girl too,and I know how hard it is.They probably laugh because she has an advanced age,and Zigeunerweisen is for entertainment, but now it's harder for her to play.If they don't apreciate art, then who? Smaranda, from Romania.Have a nice day :)

  • Why are they laughing at her?

  • @jettviolin, they're so full of emotions that they have to let it out through laughter/smile....

  • @jettviolin i think they're just astounded at how utterly amazing she is =)

  • O_O Yay!

  • ...I keep saying to myself . . ."it's her bowing that's so amazing..." and then, "no - it's her left hand..." . . . actually, it's just IDA HAENDEL!!!

THANK YOU for posting this! Amazing x

  • Ms Haendel is truly amazing. This is wonderful to hear and watch, and is a testament to the lady's giant talent and years of experience. She will remain an inspiration for violinists and audiences alike. She is not just brilliant but she is a force of nature. This performance is the most remarkable violin performance for a violinist of her years, I have ever heard. She is a valuable asset to the musical world. Her tone remains exquisite, magnificent. Kudos to the lovely lady.

    Merci Ida HAENDEL !!!!

  • Très personnel et émouvant ! quelle virtuose...splendide!

    envoutante...du gypsy

  • UN-FUCKIN-BELIEVABLE... I'm the kind of guy that always criticizes performances, compares violinists and generally has a very precise idea of what is good and "right". But here I have nothing more to say than this: UNBELIEVABLE!!!! At this age Sarasate? OMG!!!

  • AMAZING WOMAN

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing!!!!!

  • With my almost 29..this was most incredible live performance I´v ever seen.

and her fingers were like machine gun..:-)

  • dang lol

  • this is really beautiful, i'm in tears. This song is amazingly beautiful, She knows the emotions behind the song. awesome.

  • i am crying as i am watching this, she is 83 and plays ith so much energy. She once said if she were a bit more charismatic she would be as famous as Stern, oistrakh

  • That was amazing! So much energy, such passion, I can't even think of another way to say it!

  • WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE !!! she have a big but sensitive sound with so great soundcolor.i love it.

  • She has to be late 70s here. She has horsepower!!!

  • Great to see her!!! she is 83 there!!!

  • This is truly inspiring!

  • She has so much energy for her age, i love itt

  • Shlomo Mintz is in there.

  • wow.. shes amazing but the crowed looks like there falling asleep or something xDxD

  • wow thts amazing =]

  • Just WOW!!!

  • I'd never heard of her until I watched this video...what an inspirational player!

  • I started learning violin at the age of 37 (am 39 now), I hope I will be playing like this by the age of 78 :)

  • She is really 82!! born 1924

  • i think 1923 its the year

    :)

  • Remarkable, to hear this in 2006 from an artist who made 78 rpm recordings. Her fairly recently recorded unaccompanied Bach is highly personal but fascinating.

  • Those difficult parts seem so easy to her, as easy to play as opening her mouth to speak.....

    Superb!

    Big hair do.......

  • amazing that a 78yr old finger move so fast

  • Im pretty sure she's 83 in this video. It's from 2006 and she was born in 1923. It just makes it all the more amazing!

  • I heard a lot about her but now, when I saw her playing...she is really unbelievable !!!!

  • She's amazing technicaly but she has no interaction with the audience. Those 2 guys in the back were laughing and joking throughout =P

  • She's amazing technically and those 2 guys in the audience are execorably stupid and rude. it has nothing to do with her interaction just their lack of good manners.

  • So? What shall she do?

  • that was fellow violin virtuoso Vadim Gluzman and he most certainly wasnt laughing.

  • She is excellent, but I don't really enjoy the acoustics of whatever room she is playing in.

When I listen to music (seeing it being played), I often smile and laugh at how wonderfully and 'easily' it is being played. I think that is the case here... fellow player enjoys the music and the show.

    She should dress her age.

  • This is not a rock concert. The music is the show, no crowd pumping necessary. Those guys are idiots.

  • she is good, she looks scary too much make up

  • Holy Cow, she was 78 when she made this video? What an inspiration! She is truly one of the violin greats. God bless her!!!

  • I think she's better than Heifetz. just my opinion

  • hahaha are you crazy? never

  • she blew me away with this performance too. But not better than Heifetz - listen to his 1937 performance - complete ownage.

  • ive always thought her bow was long

  • It's a normal bow length...I think she is just a small woman, so her violin and bow look really big. :p

  • Fellow violinists Vadim Gluzman at 2:05 and Shlomo Mintz at 2:30.

  • so much life in her playing one of the great violinist an absolute inspiration

  • i like her playing... :-)

thanks to OriginalMoonbeam for sending this vid... :-)

  • She is an inspiration.

    MatitiahuB

  • She's like a female Heifetz, lol. Ida truly is a violin virtuoso, even at her advanced age. And she's certainly one of the greatest violinists of all time, she's up there in the same league as Mintz, Heifetz, Oikstrakh, and Perlman.

  • I completely agree and I think that every time I watch her play. It would be nice to see her in concert some time.

  • @zucchini2007 SHE IS NOWHERE NEAR PEARLMAN ARE YOU SERIOUS HAVE U COMPARED THIS VID TO HIS WAY OF PLAYING THE Zigeunerweisen!!!

  • @sidwong123 You know nothing. You can't even spell PERLMAN's name, let alone have an idea of what you're talking about.

  • @sidwong123 Shes way over Perlman!!!! Shes at the same level as Stern and Menuhin and Perlman isnt!

  • Thank you,Miami festival..

Shlomo Mintz it's in the hall to lissen her..i see the satisfaction in your face..it's a legend of the violin also for one of the best player,i think..

  • Ida did an interesting interview for NPR about staying close to the composers intent and how she tries to stay faithful..there may still be archives. She is very intent on expressing the composers intent and not her own. She is indeed a remarkable woman!

  • i think it's normal for younger players to be "romantic" and just can't help play it as they wish...how they feel. But later on as they mature they may take a different view of things and seek what as you call it "the composer's intention."

  • Absolutely amazing, one the last Pupils of Carl Flesh along with Aida Stucki and very few others, it is very nice indeed to know of the existence of this footage, I truly enjoyed it, thanks for uploading and sharing.

  • She was around 78 in this.....so amazing.

I was at a party and had the honor of meeting her. Such an eccentric, funny, and wonderful lady!

And one of the best violinists ever. I have never met someone who keeps their violin skill this long.

  • totally agree with u....

  • ida is the best. so much better than vengerov s rendition

    she is so amazing.

in my opinion she is one of the last violin masters

  • vengerov never recorded zigeunerweisen

  • Even better than Heifetz? I don't know about that.

  • She's a genius! Gotta love her playing! Bravo!

  • By far the best version I've heard of this - so spontaneous, so GYPSY!!! Viva Ida!!!

  • Brava!

Thanks for posting this concert by this great violinist!
