Things get tough when you have hundreds of songs and you near 50... like I miss the way Michael could zoom and twirl all over the stage for two hours on songs like this back in the 80's, but I can't move around as well as I did back kthen, either!
I love REM but only ever seen the live once. I don't think they are a great band, I saw them about 13 years ago and even the Michael seemed to be reading the lyrics. A great band, just not live.
seven shows i've seen over 22 yrs. they probably are willing to do over 200 [at one time Peter said 300 -- counting covers] songs. they do MANY, MANY of their songs great -- every time.
each show [that i've seen] was unique and phenomenal. in an alternate world, i would travel with them.
btw, sting also sings w/ lyric sheets. they want to get every word right for fans' sake.
ain't that performance from the live at the olympia cd?

I like Bill Berry's drumming on the studio version better ... I think they need a bettter drummer I hate to say.

Yeah he doesn't do the drum roll bits throughout the songs that Bill Berry did... he's not the worst drummer they could have had though.

Peter Buck changed the intro... but why?
SeanSM92 2 years ago
Peter only missed a little lead flourish.. no biggie.
This was a rehearsal show... just testing out things, that's all.

He did it this way when I went to see them so he has changed it to just two power chords... the original had more individual notes.

You don't say? Hehe, I guess when you're Peter Buck you're allowed to do that..
Issicra 2 years ago
No, when you're Peter Buck you're supposed to jangle!

Lol... true. I hear the lead intro a "little bit" in there.
Perhaps the intro is drowned out by Scott, the other guitarist. Just a thought as I'm listening to this with headphones on.
