This isn't available in the UK, but for the equivalent of $70,000, you can get a very well equipped S-Class, 7 Series or an A8 which would be under 6 months old and an ex test vehicle with huge amounts of spec with a good engine under the hood. If the situation is similar in the USA, whats the point of this car, with such a high price tag in a segment which is dominated by German super saloons :S
Same goes for a used Equus for much less, ur getting the same luxury as the Germans for wayyyy less. I hate people who buy brands and not the actual products.
@Bulgdoom no but thats what i mean, in the UK id rather buy the brand in all fairness, especially since the cost seems to be the same. I personally own an Audi A8, yes the servicing, parts and insurance is far more expensive than it would be on a Hyundai, but at the end of the day, if you can afford a car like that, you should be able to afford maintaining it. Besides, you say, buy the product, but any money, the build quality is better on my A8 than it is compared to that Hyundai.
@Bulgdoom I'm sorry but when Germans were rolling like this Hyundai wasn't even on the map... take he Grosser... When you're buying a Benz you know what you can be safe to know that you are buying a good car.. But this thing when I hear the name Hyundai the first thing that comes to my mind is all those cheap and "break every 5 miles Hyundai's". Merc will not fail but this lookin' at its ancestor, hmm not very assuring.. Let me see this thing do 1M kilometers like my neighbours 200D..
I just love people with this type of a mindset, of course you have never heard of progress. Btw lets see if your New Merc can do as many KMs as ur neighbor's 30 yr old Merc now
@Bulgdoom wow and you really know my mindset.. sorry but neither I know anything about you and neither you know anything about me so by one comment you cannot determine the "mindset" of a person. but back to the car been looking at this car and its price and remembered what an economist told me once. when a company is entering a new market they always sell their products at a price much lower than the competition products even if their profit is very low.. also i don't own a Merc. NO $
Sounds like the video was done on an aircraft carrier noisy . Other then that these people are stepping up their game . This car was extremely nice , I was very surprised to see the level this company is at now .
@keij076 that's hilarious cause this car does nothing new and doesn't offer some of the more basic features a benz or bimmer does. The car is a copycat it takes all the best things and tries to mix them without thinking it through. They aren't industry leading or trying to make change they're just copying competitors and then putting it out on the market look at the body benz look at the taillight bimmer look at the interior which has cues from many luxury makers. They've changed by copying others.
DON'T buy an Equus please buy a Chrysler 300, a Ford Taurus, a Chevrolet Impala or Buick LaCrosse!
These brands need you! Real Americans have to drive real american cars! And they are better than any Hyundai 'cause they're built by US-Manufacturers.
yea da car is nice..german or not its a nice car...only old ppl are gonna drive so it doesnt need 500000000 hp and handleing og a ferrari..its not german ots asain with a whole different feel style etc
This is what comes out when a Lexus LS460 fucks a S550... Please... this is a "luxury" car for "poor" people.. it is a Hyundai and nothing else, give me a break! But it's a car and it drives, that's for sure.....
@DeniJasmina@DeniJasmina Whats you point? Jaguar & Land Rover is owned by Tata, previously Ford. Mercedes was partly owned by Chrysler. Lexus is Toyota. Acura Honda. Volkswagen owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, & Lamborghini.
My point is it doesn't matter who owns what, all these companies have big money including Hyundai. And don't be surprised who Hyundai might buy out in the future!
In the 70's Honda & Toyota ppl said they were total garbage, now they are some of the leaders in the market!
@halfasser I agree with you but those other manufacturers bought out the luxury segment and then pushed it forward hyundai isnt really trying to change anything im just seeing alot of copy pasting in the drawing room. Also on the point of Land Rover and Jaguar I think TaTa has really pushed the 2 brands forward and made it amazing the new jags are beautiful and are competing with the likes of bently's now and range rover is still amazing but has also moved forward in innovative technology
Not to be compared with S class, 7 series or Audi A8. But surely kills all the other cars around the same price tag like 5series. Hyundai's definitely opened a new market, having the luxurious features and performance of series with the price of 5 series
I would drive this car. All it needs is Hyundai's BlueLink Telematics System, and we'll be in business. For those who are giving the Equus crap because it's still a Hyundai, realize that they are not what they used to be years ago. The same goes for Kia. Value, reliability, and safety are the keys to a great car. I love Benz, but some of their cars are unreliable, BMW as well. Audi....a different story. I love Audi. So far, I haven't seen anything wrong with their cars.
Yep i hate all the loosers out there, when they choose One car company over another, because it's forign, I don't care, it's what the craftmanship is, most forgin car companys have better reputations than American car companies, and all the people who sais that this is an s class copier, what do u think it's compeating with
@MrInspireless The cayman s is a drivers car it is a mid engined sports car anything a true gearhead would want, the equus is a great 4 door car, comfortable practical and powerful, great for everyday, but the cayman s is a great overall sports car, so i dont know which one i would rather have
There is great progress for Korean cars such as Hyundai and Kia have become two companies madecars compete with Japanese cars, American and German luxury. And the lowest prices
i saw one of these bad boys in a mall the other day and said, "this is my dream car" thinking its a $200,000 car. I came home and searched the name "Equus" and found out it was a Hyundai. I puked everywhere disgusted in myself that i actually liked this car, but dammit its a nice car
Hyundai Equus might be cars that have most vividly accomplished the crime in the car that has appeared on the market in the Imaichi place usually if it is called counterfeit goods other than the crime though it is nothing. Hyundai Equus is counterfeit goods of Mercedes sold more at a low price than genuine.
I think Hyundai needs to make another brand. It seems like a good car but sales rep is missing the point of a luxury car. Mercedes, Bmw, Audi, etc have super clean dealerships with suit and tie staff. Lexus invested lot of resources to seprate itself from toyota. Lexus has super clean dealership with very well dressed staff. They wash all cars that come in for service. I get being comfortable and yourself but i am not a 70k+ car buyer.
Hyundai needs to branch out with another brand or something if they want to be making cars like this. No one in their right mind wants to spend $65,000 on a Hyundai.
Will Hyundai/Kia ever stop copying everybody else and make something good without using features developed by others? As if people compare this to a Mercedes S Class. Thats just an insult to a real auto maker.
@FantasticGary Yes, it is indead. If you actually look inside one instead of a grainy YouTube video, or actually go to the Hyundai website and check the interior specs, you would see that. Why would they put cheap plastic in a 65 grand luxury sedan?
@Gtbomb1 I had a glib response to the Equus when I first realized that Hyundai was selling a $60,000 car. I thought, who do these guys think they are coming into an established field and trying to put on a show? But then I drove one and I looked at the payment difference. I can buy a 5-series or this car. You should buy the 5-series because it sounds like you respect the brand equity but I already drive a used BMW and I am tried of getting it repaired at $500-700 a visit to the dealer.
Doesn't look like a Hyundai, doesn't sound like a Hyundai but unfortunately, it is still a Hyundai. I think it would have been a better seller if Hyundai had went off and started a luxury brand for vehicles like this. Don't get me wrong, it seems to be an excellent vehicle with superb craftsmanship but a lot people seem to choose their vehicles for the brand.
@MBenzSL65 only problem is when companies do that, the price for the cars goes up and I really like that you can get such a high quality car for the low Hyundai price it has.
@mrbloodmuffins That's very true. A lot of people can't rationalize spending 50-60k on a Hyundai though. I think the Genesis is a very classy luxury car. If they added some (not all) of the features of the equus to the Genesis I think they'd have their affordable luxury automobile. As for the equus itself, they could have done another brand. Similar to how Chrysler did with Ram.
@MBenzSL65 So true it hurts. Many people will fail to realize just how good of a car this really is simply because it doesnt have the BMW badge on it. Quite sad really.
@SaintThomas2009 A good point. And I agree 100%. The bang-for-your buck rating on a Hyundai is as good as it gets in my opinion (as more of a spectator, and not a Hyundai owner). I have never owned one but I won't say I never will. One thing I recently noticed is that not only are their cars different in a great way but so is the company itself. For example, the predicted trade in/residual vale BEFORE you buy the car, I think that is awesome, being able to know what your car will be worth.
@SaintThomas2009 They are being smart. Not taking on the extra cost like Toyota and Acura and Nissan. Just adding vehicles for all genres to the same brand, and building the namesake!
@MBenzSL65 And those that choose the vehicles for the brand are not in the market for value, just staus quo. This car looks to be able to compete with the best of them.
I think what puts the Equus slightly above Lexus is a lower cost ownership experience. The owners manual on an Apple iPad, Bringing the car to YOU for a test drive and picking up and dropping off a Genesis or Equus when your car needs to be serviced? That's what I'm talking about!! An automatic trunk and AWD would be welcomed additions in the future though which I am sure Hyundai is working on as we speak.
Sometimes, I laugh so hard at you guys when you make fun of the designs and accuse them of "copying". I'd like you to konw that the head of designs for Hyundai and Kia is PETER SHREYER, Do you even know who he is? He was the head of designs for LAMBORGHINI, AUDI, and other sub-groups of the Audi company.
Hyundai Equus leaves customers more satisfied than any other large premium cars in the American market, even outdistancing luxury German brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Equus received 904 points out of a maximum 1,000 in this year's U.S. automotive performance, execution and layout (APEAL) survey, which was published on Thursday by J.D. Power and Associates, an influential U.S. agency that conducts surveys to determine customer satisfaction levels.
@dubdub110 True HOWEVER as great as Lexus is, what makes the Equus a better choice is the LOWER cost of ownership. That is key! As for the Ride, Comfort, Power, etc...all are matched by the Equus. Safety and longevity remains to be seen with the Equus though. The ownership experience and cost to maintain are HUGE issues even with the rich and it is here that Hyundai beats Lexus AND Mercedes.
@greatman2012 I agree, I can't be an ignorant dinosaur like BMW and Merecedes were in 1989, but here is one thing that bothers me about the Hyundai. While you have said this point already, I want to reiterate it again: no one knows the longevity of this cars engine. By the time Toyota launched Lexus in 1989, it already enjoyed the reputation as the most reliable import in America for 20 or so years. People knew that while the styling was not over the top, the mechanics would out last the dinosa
@greatman2012 -urs. Also, the Lexus brought new innovations to the table, such as an electronically managed 4 speed transmission, and for the time a powerful four litre V-8 engine. This Hyundai, on the other hand, offers no new innovations. Just a lower price. Anybody can build a cheaper car, but to truly overtake the competition, you have offer something really unique. Sadly, other than price the Hyundai doesn't offer anything. Until Hyundai has a world class rep, I'll stick to my japanese buil
@greatman2012 lt Lexus. One day, I presume around 2020, I'll end up at a Hyundai dealer, and hopefully be impressed. Also, that badge of the angel thing is down right tacky.
Wow, rear passenger can access control front passenger seat on the back , nice ...I gonna crush the guy in front passenger seat if i was on the back .Hehe
@ 2:30 Does the dash states: AVG Fuel Economy "6.7MPG"? If that is the case then it is safe to say that Hyundai manufactured this vehicle not for fuel economy but to rival the likes of Benz and BMW
No offense, but I think the only ones who would buy this 80 grand Hyundai are the rich "Immigrant" Asians. Any sane person of any other ethnics will buy the other hyundais for the fuel mileage
what the american customers doesn't seem to understand is that korea and japan are keeping all their cool cars to themselves, releasing only a small number of what is considered "good" cars into foreign markets. there are cars like the equus and better that are being kept.... I can assure you, that the equus is only the tip of the iceberg lol
It's too bad they didn't show the Ultimate edition. The one with a beautiful 8" LCD back screen, a refrigerator, a remote for the massaging seats, forward facing cameras, footrests, power trunk lid, and more. Now wrap that into a car that has way more features than a S550, A8, 760il, and a LS460L standard, not optional.
@G0Far While the Equus has an impressive features list, it doesn't come close to the style and refinement you get from the S-Class, A8, and 7-Series. The center console in the Equus looks boring and cheap... plastic. There are so many cheesy chrome adornments, it seems to go the American way of "luxury"... blinding it's owners with shiny surfaces and "cool" features. It's like an Escalade meets the Sonata. Eew.
@scaremengaviation Well style and refinement wise, it's the S Class hands down. Yes, chrome is cheesy and causes to many blinding distractions, literally. The new 2011 Expedition has chrome grill, chrome door handles, chrome rear plate, chrome rims, fake wood trims, chrome gauges, chrome.. well everything actually. And the reason I know that is because my family owns one. I would much rather prefer realism, that would be, a Maybach. It's simple and it's real. Or just a simple 2011 Mazda 6.
This car is so fresh and so clean. But the only thing thats turning me off is that grill. If they fixed the grill to something like you see on the 2011 Jaguar XJ then i'll be completely sold.
Even though most of the styling cues are a rip-off of other cars (even the Bentley wheels), I have to say this car has personality. It's obvious that Hyundai put all the effort in, just wish they had let the Genesis take off more and develop into a separate brand for this car to be born into.
This video is great. Along with the video a test drive is essential. I have owned or leased 5 S class Mercedes. This vehicle gives more bang for the buck.
To prove that the Equus is more bang for the buck against the more pricy competitors he needs to take it for a test drive as that's HOW the consumer will use it, not just gagetry.
i feel like this presenter was getting too busy/carried away by the basics. i mean unlock doors remote access, fully powered moonroof, optional suspension setting, FULLY AUTOMATIC WINDOWS,like yeah alright, it's a 60K+ car, it better have all those lol.i wish this was more a proper road test than just be a virtual "get in the car and know what it's like to sit in" kinda thingcus im sure most luxury car buyers are familiar with at least half the electric features that are around the drivers seat
i had the oppritunity to see one of these up close....if you didn't know it was a Hyundai you would never suspect....it's like a Benz or Lexus Really....Go Hyundai!
In the end it is still a Hyundai. People pay for Mercedes, Lexus and BMW to have the quality and the name brand. (not saying this car isn't quality) Hyundai is not a luxury name brand thats all. Sorry :(
@7032ash I guess I've the worst. Mine is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I opened the engine with 140k miles to replace the value cover gasket for the first time. Was I surprised! Engine was amazingly clean as if it has been hardly driven. I can't imagine how sweet it would be to drive an Equus.
roomy rear that didn't sound good LOL!

Lexus has super clean dealership with very well dressed staff. They wash all cars that come in for service. I get being comfortable and yourself but i am not a 70k+ car buyer.

Hyundai needs to branch out with another brand or something if they want to be making cars like this. No one in their right mind wants to spend $65,000 on a Hyundai.
paintedd 6 months ago
Will Hyundai/Kia ever stop copying everybody else and make something good without using features developed by others? As if people compare this to a Mercedes S Class. Thats just an insult to a real auto maker.

This has the same problem as the VW Phaeton - very well built, luxurious and comfortable, but has a badge which puts everybody off.

@FantasticGary Umm, that's leather. And swede. And metal. There isn't any plastic, or very little, in the interior of the Equus.
ianman6 6 months ago
@ianman6 u sure thats leather? cause i swear to god it looks like cheap plastic :P
FantasticGary 6 months ago
@FantasticGary Yes, it is indead. If you actually look inside one instead of a grainy YouTube video, or actually go to the Hyundai website and check the interior specs, you would see that. Why would they put cheap plastic in a 65 grand luxury sedan?

@ianman6 exactly my point. it doesnt look like a luxury car

Gtbomb1 6 months ago

MBenzSL65 6 months ago 39
@MBenzSL65 only problem is when companies do that, the price for the cars goes up and I really like that you can get such a high quality car for the low Hyundai price it has.
mrbloodmuffins 6 months ago
@mrbloodmuffins That's very true. A lot of people can't rationalize spending 50-60k on a Hyundai though. I think the Genesis is a very classy luxury car. If they added some (not all) of the features of the equus to the Genesis I think they'd have their affordable luxury automobile. As for the equus itself, they could have done another brand. Similar to how Chrysler did with Ram.
MBenzSL65 6 months ago
@MBenzSL65 So true it hurts. Many people will fail to realize just how good of a car this really is simply because it doesnt have the BMW badge on it. Quite sad really.
martinlewis24 3 months ago
@MBenzSL65...If this is what their putting out as Hyundai, imagine what they'll do under a luxury brand!
Hyundai is a better than good brand.
SaintThomas2009 3 months ago
@SaintThomas2009 A good point. And I agree 100%. The bang-for-your buck rating on a Hyundai is as good as it gets in my opinion (as more of a spectator, and not a Hyundai owner). I have never owned one but I won't say I never will. One thing I recently noticed is that not only are their cars different in a great way but so is the company itself. For example, the predicted trade in/residual vale BEFORE you buy the car, I think that is awesome, being able to know what your car will be worth.
MBenzSL65 3 months ago
@SaintThomas2009 They are being smart. Not taking on the extra cost like Toyota and Acura and Nissan. Just adding vehicles for all genres to the same brand, and building the namesake!
tonyo524o524 2 months ago
@MBenzSL65 And those that choose the vehicles for the brand are not in the market for value, just staus quo. This car looks to be able to compete with the best of them.

97336cf 6 months ago
I think what puts the Equus slightly above Lexus is a lower cost ownership experience. The owners manual on an Apple iPad, Bringing the car to YOU for a test drive and picking up and dropping off a Genesis or Equus when your car needs to be serviced? That's what I'm talking about!! An automatic trunk and AWD would be welcomed additions in the future though which I am sure Hyundai is working on as we speak.
greatman2012 7 months ago
Dear every Hyundai/Kia haters,
Sometimes, I laugh so hard at you guys when you make fun of the designs and accuse them of "copying". I'd like you to konw that the head of designs for Hyundai and Kia is PETER SHREYER, Do you even know who he is? He was the head of designs for LAMBORGHINI, AUDI, and other sub-groups of the Audi company.

FUCK YOU HYUNDAI HATERS:
Hyundai Equus leaves customers more satisfied than any other large premium cars in the American market, even outdistancing luxury German brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Equus received 904 points out of a maximum 1,000 in this year's U.S. automotive performance, execution and layout (APEAL) survey, which was published on Thursday by J.D. Power and Associates, an influential U.S. agency that conducts surveys to determine customer satisfaction levels.

dubdub110 7 months ago
@dubdub110 True HOWEVER as great as Lexus is, what makes the Equus a better choice is the LOWER cost of ownership. That is key! As for the Ride, Comfort, Power, etc...all are matched by the Equus. Safety and longevity remains to be seen with the Equus though. The ownership experience and cost to maintain are HUGE issues even with the rich and it is here that Hyundai beats Lexus AND Mercedes.
greatman2012 7 months ago
@greatman2012 I agree, I can't be an ignorant dinosaur like BMW and Merecedes were in 1989, but here is one thing that bothers me about the Hyundai. While you have said this point already, I want to reiterate it again: no one knows the longevity of this cars engine. By the time Toyota launched Lexus in 1989, it already enjoyed the reputation as the most reliable import in America for 20 or so years. People knew that while the styling was not over the top, the mechanics would out last the dinosa
dubdub110 7 months ago
@greatman2012 -urs. Also, the Lexus brought new innovations to the table, such as an electronically managed 4 speed transmission, and for the time a powerful four litre V-8 engine. This Hyundai, on the other hand, offers no new innovations. Just a lower price. Anybody can build a cheaper car, but to truly overtake the competition, you have offer something really unique. Sadly, other than price the Hyundai doesn't offer anything. Until Hyundai has a world class rep, I'll stick to my japanese buil

@ 2:30 Does the dash states: AVG Fuel Economy "6.7MPG"? If that is the case then it is safe to say that Hyundai manufactured this vehicle not for fuel economy but to rival the likes of Benz and BMW
megasson2 7 months ago
@megasson2 My Mercedes is a better fuel economy than my GMC Denali.
I once drove for over 900 KM and I still had some fuel in the tank.
While my SUV just takes about 500 - 600 KM and sometimes even less.

what the american customers doesn't seem to understand is that korea and japan are keeping all their cool cars to themselves, releasing only a small number of what is considered "good" cars into foreign markets. there are cars like the equus and better that are being kept.... I can assure you, that the equus is only the tip of the iceberg lol
thestreakingninja 7 months ago
The Equus has been around since 1999, as the Centennial. It's only just been introduced to the North American market.
scaremengaviation 7 months ago in playlist Saabkyle 04 #3
It's too bad they didn't show the Ultimate edition. The one with a beautiful 8" LCD back screen, a refrigerator, a remote for the massaging seats, forward facing cameras, footrests, power trunk lid, and more. Now wrap that into a car that has way more features than a S550, A8, 760il, and a LS460L standard, not optional.
G0Far 7 months ago
@G0Far While the Equus has an impressive features list, it doesn't come close to the style and refinement you get from the S-Class, A8, and 7-Series. The center console in the Equus looks boring and cheap... plastic. There are so many cheesy chrome adornments, it seems to go the American way of "luxury"... blinding it's owners with shiny surfaces and "cool" features. It's like an Escalade meets the Sonata. Eew.
scaremengaviation 7 months ago in playlist Saabkyle 04 #3
@scaremengaviation Well style and refinement wise, it's the S Class hands down. Yes, chrome is cheesy and causes to many blinding distractions, literally. The new 2011 Expedition has chrome grill, chrome door handles, chrome rear plate, chrome rims, fake wood trims, chrome gauges, chrome.. well everything actually. And the reason I know that is because my family owns one. I would much rather prefer realism, that would be, a Maybach. It's simple and it's real. Or just a simple 2011 Mazda 6.
