  • Best ending you can have to a movie soundtrack. A great ending

  • god I was little when this movie come out.It really takes me back, now looking back on it,I really miss those days.

  • everytime I listen to this soundtrack I close my eyes and picture myself going outerspace and looking at the stars peacefully...it just sounds so magical

  • OMG, this reminds me sooooo much of Escaflowne!!!!!

  • 1:35 - haunting, yet enchanting! Fantastic score.

  • This is the greatest movie score of all time.

  • ♥ :') awesomee!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

  • From the first moment of this song, I get goosebumps. From the first note. Everytime

  • 80's movies and their soundtracks rule so hard!! This music is so enjoyable and nostalgic

  • @servant38 I was just wondering why they don't put this kind of music in more modern movies.

  • 4 people need to phone home.

  • Ah! This gets me so excited!

  • I love the piano in the beginning of this piece, it's just gorgeous. John Williams was at his absolute best for this score. A ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  • OMG i can still remember when my mom took me to see this a a kid. I was crying because I though E.T had died, then when I saw the flowers come back to life I stood up and yelled. "He's alive MOM!!" And that scene when they flew their bikes past the sun is probably the most beautiful scene in cinema history!

  • @pointblizzy It's called the moon.The sun is yello.

  • @SlakyCampa I said the sun...And I meant the sun...Maybe if you watch the actual movie and stop thinking of that one scene from the trailer you would know what I was talking about. Elliot and his gang of bicyclist fly past the sunset towards then end half of the film and it's more epic than the moon flyby. Thank you

  • @pointblizzy Sorry it's been like 7 years since I saw this movie.. I recall it now, thanks XD

  • amazing soundtrack and movie ! so magical and emotional : timeless !

  • Would it kill you to mention that the pianist is the legendary Ralph Grierson ?

  • Spielberg is always quick to acknowledge that Williams made his career.

  • MIRACLE MUSIC GIVEN BY MUSIC ANGEL JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!!!

    choyrecords/stopaidsnow/

  • Spielberg was a great director especially at this time because he just wanted to make a film that was honest. And that goal spread throughout the amazing crew and cast to make a masterpiece. John Williams captured what no Director truly can... that sense of wonder. There's nothing magical about a bike against a matte painting or whatever... until you hear this song, and you know somehow, you're flying.

  • this is so beautiful.

  • goosebumps and tears...

  • Whenever I see the Universal Pictures logo come on the screen in movies, I think of E.T. for some reason.

  • So many memories...I stll have a doll of E.T. :')

  • The 80's and the 90's had some of the best kid movies,so much better than todays in my opinion

  • amazing song

  • i kinda really really want our band to play this.... it's THAT epic... but all i do is dream =/

  • I've got to admit this music does make my eyes water thinking of when ET flew back home.

What fond memories ET brought me as I remember watching the film when I was a kid.

  • This music alone makes E.T The Extra Terrestrial better than super 8

super 8 was ok but E.T WAS MORE EPIC even on dvd

  • 4:46 - end.. profoundly stirring

  • literally, after listening to this non-stop for almost everyday for about 5 months, I'm still in love with this music! it makes me so happy and when I listen to it, especially in the car or on my bike, I feel like nothing could ever stop me..best thing ever!

  • I´m a figure skater. Trust me: It would be beyong EPIC to skate a program to this masterpiece <3 love it with all of my heart !

  • this is my favorite of john williams

  • Aint gonna lie im crying haha

  • Childhood ressurgance......just add tears

  • ¡¡ HERMOSO !!

  • " I've always thought of John Williams as my musical rewrite artist. He comes in, sees my movie, rewrites the whole thing musically and makes it much better than i did. He can take a moment and just uplift it. He can take a tear that's just forming in your eye and he can cause it to drip." - Steven Spielberg

  • @TheAltair4 i own the E.T. soundtrack album too....great album...great quote

  • I think this theme is so eternal because it mixes the tender with the EPIC in a way that strikes a chord in most of us.

  • Just everlasting

  • Thumbs up if you think Super 8 it´s going to be the next E.T

  • @mutscot It tries to be, but fails miserably.

  • @kilibot It didn't fail miserably. It just tried so hard to be like another Goonies and E.T. that it forgot what was the most important aspect which made these movies unique: the story. Super 8's story fell short, but it made up for it through witty dialogue and moments of heart. In the end, it becomes a great homage to these films.

  • John Williams is a brilliant composer, when he finally retires or passes which ever happens first, he will be sadly missed. =(

  • @Setosama02 Bite thy tongue! J.W. must live always..... "PREPARE A RE-ANIMATOR!"

  • everytime i hear this song it brings tears to my eyes such a beautiful piece

  • Best memories from 0:00-0:46!

  • This soundtrack still manages to make me feel like a superhero, after all of these years.

  • I've been reborn having catatonic schizophrenia since a child, I've seen aliens I talked to the dead even today I can hear a faint window where people speak through another dimension but my childhood is very important. It was the only time I was a real human and had peace where ever I went. But isn't that what I wanted? To be different? Home is in the 1970's until then will I be in Heaven.

  • wen is steven spielberg gonna make a 2nd movie?? he can still use the same cast!! he sez he feels lyk theyre his 1st family n they say ET was very real 2 them. y cnt he make a new 1 while theyre still yung?? they'd make fast money!! millions!! perhaps trillions!! plz steven spielberg if u just so happen 2 read this, PLZ MAKE ET CUME BACK!!! WE ♥ HIM!!!

  • @bellajuliahorses ET is a masterpiece, but it would be pointless a sequel. They were making one, but ET doesn't need a sequel. It's perfect as one film.

  • John Williams really loves Gustav Holst, the beginning is also very Rachmaninoff and it ends on a very Strauss-like note.

  • Thumbs up if you own the original movie!! (DVD 20th anniversary doesn't count) Mine is still on VHS but in perfect working order!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Jantv81 i USED to have it on VHS, i don't know what happened to it... i actually have it on laser disc though. i don't know if that counts. peace...

  • @Jantv81 mine is in vhs also. i just finished watching it 2day

  • Hey isn't next year the 30th anniversary of E.T? Whats next E.T in 3D

  • @futureman116 I pray and hope its a Blu-ray release. If it has the remastered version, I just hope it comes with the original as well. I will only want it for the Original.

  • 4 people carry their keys clipped menacingly to their waist

  • @sosoasian STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!!

  • 4 people fell trying to fly with their bike

  • @headfonez STOOOOOOOP!!! JUST STOP

  • This is my childhood. I cry everytime i hear this. Deal with it.

  • I've already seen this movie +- 10 times but I ALWAYS cry :$ I know that he isn't dead but .. I cry :S I LOVE THIS MOVIE ! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • yes!, pure magic...

  • Such short work but ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT

  • One of the All-Time Greatest Soundtracks ever made! :D

  • Fuck. I cry. Holy shit. I'm crying just like a fag. This music is so beautiful.

  • I love this movie, and one of the best things about it was it's wonderful music. Thanks so much for putting this up <3

  • This movie would have lost SO much without this soundtrack... think about the story. It's not that special. The acting and the emotion in the soundtrack's what gave it so much life. I split the credits with script/directing/technical/supporting actors at 10%, Henry Thomas at 30%, John Williams at 60%.

If kid version Henry Thomas lived out a third graders essay on their pet fish with a John Williams soundtrack, it'd probably be 90% as amazing. Thats the power of good acting/good music.

  • @SirColgrevance Great soundtrack. But you Sir, talk trash

  • @simonm1991 Haha, yeah... this was meant to be a compliment, but didn't come out so well. Whatever; love the soundtrack, love the movie.

  • The first video cassette I ever owned was given to me in 1987. Even now, some twenty years later E.T. still makes me cry.

  • It does NOT get any better than this......as much as i admire John Barry (R.I.P) Danny Elfman Alan Silvestri Jerry Goldsmith Howard Shore James Newton Howerd James Horner and all the rest of the gifted individuals who can produce brilliant works....This man is by far the greatest and this is the most beautiful thing he has composed amid many , many others.

  • SOO beautiful ah i wish it would randomly start playing in my life while biking or while looking up at the stars!!!

  • Oh my God.

  • This is literally the best thing in the world.

  • John Williams is great with his french horns at 0:28

  • Esta es una de las composiciones mas hermosas de John Williams!!

  • Lately movies have had a dark style to them, even kids movies (Harry Potter, Twilight)..Those films may be good, but they will never capture the imagination and hearts of millions, the way that E.T. did. We were involved in E.T., we all felt like Elliot..We found this creature with our eyes, we were nervous of him in the beginning, and then we grew to love him. E.T. has always been a figure for something deeper...Love. Just like we love this film, and the soundtracks. John Williams Forever!

  • better then Mac & Me

  • john willams is absolutely brilliant

  • Films like Inception may be brilliant (as was Hans Zimmers OST to it) but those films will never capture magic the way films such as ET did/do. Forever a masterpiece in every way.

  • i cry but the tears dont stop

  • 3 people couldn't phone home

  • @walecs2 STOOOOOOOP DOING THAT!!!!

  • @walecs2 4 now... wut the crap?? how do ppl not lyk ET?? thumbs up?? :)

  • @walecs2 SHUT THE FUCK UP ASSHOLE STOP BEING AN INTERNET TOOOOOL

  • @IcingINtheshower Who are you talking to?

  • The greatest two composers for film music are Wagner and Mahler. But Alfred Newman and John Williams are the greatest that actually composed for films.

  • Insane to think that this beautiful piece of cinema is almost 30 years old.

It doesn't even seem that long ago that we were celebrating E.T.'s 20th birthday release and yet this film has never aged one single bit.

  • Comment removed

  • I put him a very close second behind Alfred Newman. But then Wagner and Mahler both deserve 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the field of movie music.

  • The music alone can make me cry because I relive every beuatifull moment from the movie whenever I hear this...I was only 5 or 6 years old when the movie came out and my mother came out of the theater with two crying kids hehehe...

After all these years the movie still makes me cry...and when I want to cry but can't for some reason I put this or the movie on to get cryin...

  • John Williams .....the Mozart of our times!

  • 3 people disliked this video on their opposite day... so they really liked it!

  • 3 people can't phone home.

  • John Williams at his best

  • damn... masterpIece....lol!!

  • true... I'd call it a John Williams' master peace....

  • I feel weird by liking this song so much!

  • I love this movie... and I cry at the end.. :")

  • it makes me cry a lot, man, i am just 23 years old and i feel like if i have lived everything listening to this melody. is perfect.

  • I am TERRIAFAD OF ET! he scary :D

  • I play the piano and the first 45 seconds are a big challenge for me but im working hard.

  • What John Williams has never lost and captured here: our sheer sense of wonder.

  • I think if I could ever play the beginning of this song on piano my life would be complete.

  • best thing i've ever heard, makes me cry every time

  • This masterpiece makes me cry..... it reminds me of my chilhood.

ANd now I feel so sad....

  • @Ochenter Same here... I don't know why though. Maybe my loss of innocence. I didn't know how good I had it as a kid with NO responsibilities. Now I'm in my 4th year of college busting my balls to make it.

  • @Ochenter Far out, as soon as the music started playing, it struck a chord within my heart... This is just beautiful music. There's great music out there, but the music that strikes a chord in your heart is this sort of music... Incredible. So beautiful...

  • @Ochenter It's very nostalgic, aye. I haven't watched ET yet, but I love John Williams' music... He makes you feel inside.

  • @Ochenter LOL, I just finished crying :D i <3 Great Music

  • @TonyHaute

Sorry about that. ¿Why does this masterpiece makes you cry ? In my case is just because of many memories and livings from my childhood, and it's always hard to forget the 80's.

That's why I don't use to hear this if I can avoid it. Too emotional for me.

By the way, I never thought my comentary was going to be the most successful on this video. It's really an honour. Thanks to everyone, but never is easy to talk about sadness, neither and much lesser to talk bout the past.

  • @Ochenter The song makes me cry because it is so powerful yet delicate. I Love the sound of the Piano & violin so naturally every time I watch the film I get teary eyed because of the music alone. I Mega-Love the film don't get me wrong but THE MUSIC Sends me. After watching this film (As a young child) I discovered music, It made me aware of what music was. So each time I revisit this song I cry & I had to comment with you, LOL! And I do agree the 80's was a Revolutionary decade Never forgotten

  • @Ochenter looks like i'm not the only one

  • John Williams + Steven Speilburg = Greatest Movie and Music of all time. E.T. is, and will always be, my #1 favorite movie.

  • Nothing worse than having your headphones up enjoying some good music.. then 1 second of silence... Directly into some annoying automated ad screaming in your ear about some shit house college.

  • This music will always be timeless to me! I could listen to it until I'm 100 years old! :) THANK YOU John Williams!

  • My Childhood ;___;

    Long Live John Williams

  • This has to be about one of my most favorite pieces of JW's music. His music is so full of life, <3 it.

  • john williams and his orchestrators/arrangers are incredible

  • I whooped Batman's ass is better.

  • This is unbelievable. :'(

  • I love it !!!!!

  • This must be both exhilerating for the audiance to watch and for the ochestra to play. It happily conjurs up childhood memories.

  • 4 people dont like this, they are quite possibly a bit mental.

  • Anyone know where to find the chords for this?

  • you guys should check the dark crystal theme song is a great soundtrack

  • ah the good old days! I remember when I watched the movie for the first time that was way back in 1983... it was an inspiring movie. and i also cried a lot during watching it... this movie changed me in a lot ways that I could not explain... everytime I hear this score it brings me back to my childhood days!

  • THIS GUY IS SIMPLY AMAZING GOOSBUMPS ALL ROUND JUST FANTASCTIC

  • i remember watching this with my dad when i was a kid. Great memories, sums up the 80s.

  • this is so fucking awesome!!! i'm crying because of the memories );

  • [extraordinary!!!!]

  • great music and makes you Imagination hope and love!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is the saddest movie ive ever seen :OO

  • @W4luigi its sad, but imporatant. Every1 should watch dis @ least once b4 they die

or ELSE, ET will not make it home!

  • Total MASTERPIECE ! It gives me chills and makes me travel in the land of imaginary !

  • @guyomC75 well said :)

  • WHERE CAN I FIND THIS SONG?

DO I HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE CD?

  • This is powerful rhetoric turned into music. It's hard to reason music, but I think it creates a schemata of references to our most tender feelings as well as those of grandeur.

  • Btw: my childhood.

  • @ScaredPiglet U mad?

  • John Williams is a genius.

  • これを聴くのは約30年ぶりですが、当時と変わらぬ感動を覚えました。

    絶対的に素晴らしい音楽が持つ普遍性とは、このことなのでしょう。

  • @ScaredPiglet YOU ASSHOLE!!!

  • @lakeon34thstreet YOU HATER!!!

  • You'll have to excuse ScaredPigshit, I've ruined this fuck so badly, he/she has been posting idiotic comments on videos I've favorited as a means of retaliation.

  • @HeadlessEye Oh, k den lol

  • @ScaredPiglet WTF IS YOUR MALFUNCTION!

  • cool!

  • john williams is a musical genius

  • @bofknilb not really everyone can do what he does. is just a matter of finding the secrete noone knoes.

  • propianista: you make no sense, tardee.

  • @bofknilb w.e.

  • home alone was good aswell

  • oh i didnt know he did the music for home alone too. damn

  • I agree with usernamegirl1... great stuff, nearly 30 yrs. later.. I play piano, and the "Over the Moon" rendition is one of the hardest to play. Fan /collector of Williams' material for life, got the pleasure of meeting him May 22nd 2007 after a Boston Pops performance...

  • Oh yes, bostonpiano... and DEFINITELY not to take away from that outstandingly beautiful "Over the Moon" section , which is my favorite part. I love musicians who are great at their craft and his orchestra is just is the absolute BEST in the world. What an honor it must have been to meet such an iconic living legend. I'm a fan/collector, too.

  • John Williams' orchestra's horn section is the BEASTIEST!!!

    Sorry, Earth, Wind, and Fire...

  • so touching...

  • i will never get tired of listening to this Master Piece

  • @robintrailer don't we all!

  • @robintrailer I have the original VHS version from 1982, and its the best. Would NEVER reconmend the 20th anniversary DVD edition for obvious reasons!

  • @Jantv81 vhs is rubbish, dvd is ten times better than it. i have the 20th anniversary dvd edition, its brilliant.

  • John Williams rules! Es la neta! :8

  • I get teary eyed every time I hear the end of this song...this is my favorite movie of all time and the music is amazing. I love Steven Spielberg and John Williams!

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous, glorious!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely magnificent!
