  • I've been fascinated by Konigsberg for some time. I saw a picture of it a few years ago and wondered why I couldn't find it on the map. Then I compared old maps with new and saw the name Kaliningrad on the map where Konigsberg should have been. Since then I've been trying to find out more about this lost gem. This is a lovely little film, beautifully presented. The innocent always suffer for the guilty in war. There are no real winners.

  • 4TuLLHEAD, Why do you have a special interest in this city? Lovely Elegy. Are the photos from the 1930s?

  • A whole high civilisation and way of life was utterly destroyed and has never recovered. The character and quality of the Prussian people was particularly hated by the forces that sought Germany's destruction so that the state of Prussia was totally erased with maximum brutality. Thanks jews!

  • thank Hitler for its destruction! Damn NAZIs...

  • @hotboyclarence

Well, maybe one day USA and GB will be punished in the same way for the criminal aggression against Irak in 2003. And when their cities will lay in rubbles, someone smart like you will come and say to the survivors: "Thank Bush & Blair for their destruction!"

  • Beautiful video. Thanks for posting.

  • great video!! i have one postcard from Konigsberg..

  • I am ready to cry, absolutely beautiful, a masterpiece of film and music; thank you! From Riga and Philadelphia.

  • Respect for wonderful film material and music ...Königsberg forever !

  • Only the invention and swift employment of a Teutonic Atom Bomb could have saved this beautiful city for Germany.

  • The music is beautiful, but it would be more appropriate to have German music to accompany this video.

  • @pgg804a Music is Music---not propaganda.

  • @brengf I don't know what that means.

  • also Kenig is and will be KÖNIGSBERG .... for ever... in few years the city name will be back named... you want to bet ?

  • what is the name of music ?

  • It isn't true there was a german city only, for many years it belongs to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

  • @wojsport Königsberg wasn`t Polish for any minute in past history....

  • Of course Kaliningrad is an architectural atrocity (like Minsk). But if the Germans had not supported Hitler, and Hitler had not started WW2, 60 million people (and their descendants) would still be alive...including millions of Germans. Germany would also have most its former lands east of the Oder-Neisse, and cities like Dresden, Nurnberg, Konigsberg, and Hamburg woul still be intact. It is not inconceivable that Konigsberg will someday be reconstructed.

  • Wow! Great film, Michael, thank you very much. Very impressive, also in connection with his christian choir.

  • Königsberg was stolen by the invading communist Russians. The area should be returned, similar to Russian stolen land that was once Finland.

  • 6:14 looks like a lovely suburb of Konigsberg. Does anyone know where it is? I am thinking Metgethen but I could be way off.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this lovely video. This city was my mother's early childhood home. She and her family had to flee the city in 1945 when she was about thirteen years of age. It is truly heartbreaking to see what was lost.

  • @Sbmom1018 Yes i agree with you, it is heartbreaking indeed if we look at a whole city being wiped off the map - a such beautiful one, at that. But you are lucky your mother and her family got out alive. So many innocents were murdered. This is heartbreaking, too.

  • breathtaking views !

  • I could be born in this city ...

  • Koenigsberg was surely a beatiful place where live a quite life....

    Now Kaliningrad is really different.....

  • They destroyed a city of culture, art and history and replaced it with a monstrosity. Thats the Russians, then, today and forever!

  • @Ermal8711 This city is destroyed not by Russians, but by British and Americans Air Force in 1944, assailed city with napalm bombs in retaliation for Lockerbie. Russians has already arrived in the desert. 80% of the city center was burned before them.

So good destroy culture, arts and history are able not only Russians. Their problem - they could not save what is left and restore what had to be restored.

  • @Vovan1254 ... actually, Königsberg was bombed by the British and Australian Air Forces, not the United States. It was bombed at the request of the Red Army in order to facilitate the impending military campaign.... napalm had recently been invented, but was not used. As for Lockerbie? ... I think you need to put those old Soviet textbooks in the attic ...they're not of much use. Russia had no intention of ever saving any of Königsbergs culture or history... pure ethnic cleansing was the goal.

  • @4TuLLHEAD Of course Napalm was used, it was used in Dresden 1945, too.

Even the German press admits that today, and they do not admit much of the Allies warcrimes. For the simple reason that Germany is still under Allied control, Media too. I should know it, i worked for German Press and TV.

The German Media is actually the least pro-german in the world. They have learned well to insult their own victims of war - unique in the world.

  • @Elberiver11 ... I know full well that incendiary bombs were used on Königsberg as well as Dresden (which I consider to be no less than a crime against humanity) ... I was only quibling with the term "napalm", which I define as the gel application used by the US in Korea and Vietnam... sadly the results are the same. I also realize that we are all often translating our native languages when commenting on YouTube ... so there are sometimes honest misunderstandings of meaning on either side.

  • @Vovan1254 The Soviets replaced a lot of these buildings with nasty looking governmental buildings, millions of Germans were forced out of Prussia, not only Konigsberg. The Soviets knew that the heart of Germany was Prussia and they made sure that it would never rise again. This was an age old vendetta that the Soviets were finally able to make good on. They had no desire to restore this city, only to wipe out everything that was German and to make it Slavic and a proxy

  • One of the most beautiful German cities..now gone forever.

  • Wunderschön :-(
