This is just amazing. I wish my generation knew more about this. The music nowadays is a grain of salt compared to this. Absolutely Golden. -A 14 year old.
would people please stop comparing every great american artist who stood the test of time to justin beiber? i'm starting to feel sorry for the kid already.
I saw Son House with some friends at a small club in a small club in Oceanside, north of San Diego, May (?) of 1969. Having been deep into the blues for years before that, I was the only one who knew who he was. It was as close to a supernatural experience as I've had. One old black man and one old silver National guitar, and one old chair. The hair on the back of my neck stands up just thinking about it. He did this song that night, and Death Letter, several others. Whew.
@zer0hvk It was indeed an honor, and one of the two or three best nights of music I've heard- and I was near SF in the "glory days" when every significant band in the world came through. The only one I missed was the Beatles, and I turned down tickets to the Candlestick show in August of '66 because I wasn't into 40K screaming girls too young for me to date. Turned out to be their last concert, not counting the Apple roof show with Get Back and those. Big mistake. Oh well.
Just watched the movie It Might Get Loud! WOW! I am sooo inspired. I just love this movie, released 2009, and would recommend it to everyone interested in music. It features Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page! Jack has paid personal tribute to Son House and it is from his love that I learned of Son House. All I can say is WOW! I love this song, and Son House now too!! Absolutely incredible!! Thank you for posting! Blessings, min :-)
Yeah it was a gospel song, Son House sung it in the time when he was coming out of his gospel/preacher me in his life into 'the devils' blues side. A battle he long fought, the church, or the music of blues. The pioneer of modern music, an enigma, who without current music would not exist.
Awsome work ihpu22 and Lafayettebluesman, you make an old blues man proud!!
@Lafayettebluesman HEYYYYYYYYYYY YOU YOUNG GUNS GO 4 IT ,,,STUFF THE HYPE +HIP HOP CRAP ,X FACTOR ETC EXPLORE N=MUSICS HISTORY ,THE WEB IS A BLESSING TO DO THAT AMEN ,,FROM ENGLAND
Son House had one of the most powerful, moving, and emotional voices ever. The fact that such an impact was made with just a voice and his hands means so much. This man was and still IS the blues.
Actually, you can't look it up. When you do that all you are finding is some idiot on the internets interpretation. You have to listen to the song and hear the words. Congratulations that three boneheads upped you and five downed me. That must mean you're right.

this song blew me away first time I heard it. I was simply amazed at how that man could make such a powerful song with nothing but his voice and his hands
