    THIS IS FUCKING GOLD!!!

  • This is just amazing. I wish my generation knew more about this. The music nowadays is a grain of salt compared to this. Absolutely Golden. -A 14 year old.

  • @MsSk8tification Agree with you 100%

    -A 14 year old.

  • 0 dislikes. legit.

  • This is my favorite Son House song. There is nothing else like it anywhere.

  • lol "naked" - nakked at 0:43

  • This is the only version of this song on youtube, that didn't ruin it for me. Thank you.

  • He doesnt need one instrument to make one of the most powerful and emotional songs.

  • Stunning. Just him and his hands, and he performs this powerfully? You can feel it in your gut when he wails.

  • I saw Son House with some friends at a small club in a small club in Oceanside, north of San Diego, May (?) of 1969. Having been deep into the blues for years before that, I was the only one who knew who he was. It was as close to a supernatural experience as I've had. One old black man and one old silver National guitar, and one old chair. The hair on the back of my neck stands up just thinking about it. He did this song that night, and Death Letter, several others. Whew.

  • @slownoman what an honor, that must've been quite an experience. to say the least.

  • @zer0hvk It was indeed an honor, and one of the two or three best nights of music I've heard- and I was near SF in the "glory days" when every significant band in the world came through. The only one I missed was the Beatles, and I turned down tickets to the Candlestick show in August of '66 because I wasn't into 40K screaming girls too young for me to date. Turned out to be their last concert, not counting the Apple roof show with Get Back and those. Big mistake. Oh well.

  • Tell me who's that writin' John the Revelator

Tell me who's that writin' John the Revelator

Who's that writin' John the Revelator wrote the book of the seven seals

  • Muddy Waters said Son House was the blues and he never been known to lie!

  • i love it

  • amazing :)

  • amazing. I learned of Son House from Jack and Meg's song "Cannon" :)

  • @phsyker Same :))

  • I thank you for putting this up. Please know, you made somebody happy!

  • Just watched the movie It Might Get Loud! WOW! I am sooo inspired. I just love this movie, released 2009, and would recommend it to everyone interested in music. It features Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page! Jack has paid personal tribute to Son House and it is from his love that I learned of Son House. All I can say is WOW! I love this song, and Son House now too!! Absolutely incredible!! Thank you for posting! Blessings, min :-)

  • the deepest essence of music is in his voice.

  • Yeah it was a gospel song, Son House sung it in the time when he was coming out of his gospel/preacher me in his life into 'the devils' blues side. A battle he long fought, the church, or the music of blues. The pioneer of modern music, an enigma, who without current music would not exist.

Awsome work ihpu22 and Lafayettebluesman, you make an old blues man proud!!

  • @joeltremlett If current music didn't exist I would rejoice.

  • haha old school. Not even a guitar, just him clappin and singin

  • Just amazing!.. Great version!

  • Yum! That hit the spot.

  • though i like the blind willie johnson version (and even the depeche mode), this one is the best =D

  • why can't other kids my age listen to this instead of rap?

  • @ihpu2 I'm 14 and I love this stuff! Have hope!

  • Jesus, come back soon.

  • iz anybody have the taj mahal version from the beginning of the blues brothers 2000 movie??? just the acapella....thanks!!!!

  • @annarebeka

you can find it by typing: Hubi is singing John The Revelator: on the seach filter on youtube.

The song is taken from: Blues Brothers 2000.

  • no, its a church song, very famous, the blues brothers 2000 were maked in 2000, this song is very old, sorry if im wrong

  • Son House had one of the most powerful, moving, and emotional voices ever. The fact that such an impact was made with just a voice and his hands means so much. This man was and still IS the blues.

  • @Michaelridesabike Yeah, sometimes you don't notice that there are instruments missing, he's a real music box!

  • that voice has so emotion it makes me almost cry.

  • @yoyodunno CRY BABY

  • I can listen to this for years.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Son House's version but I prefer his version sung by Taj Mahal at the beginning of the Blues Brothers 2000

  • One of the most impressive recordings of the blues-era imho. Thanks for posting

  • I'm not even religious and this song is still powerful as ever. One of the songs that got me into the blues :O

  • These men where preaching prophecy in their song!!!! Real men of not only music but prophetic!!!!

  • Where is that painting from?

  • Yeah, seven seals, the book of revelations, the old wacky ending

  • Nice. Isaw hin in Ann Arbor, Michigan about 40 yrs ago!

  • ur retarted if u don't like this song

  • rofl

  • Hell yeah !

  • WROTE THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN SEAS!

    tell em son

  • Seven Seals

  • it's actually seven seals, I looked it up

  • Actually, you can't look it up. When you do that all you are finding is some idiot on the internets interpretation. You have to listen to the song and hear the words. Congratulations that three boneheads upped you and five downed me. That must mean you're right.

  • The song is about tje apostle John and his writing the book of Revelation. The book or Revelaion is commonly reffered to as the book of the seven seals.

  • the chorus is about John, but the verse goes from Genisis all the way up to the Resuresction of Christ in the Gospels. the middle is about when Jesus is in the garden of gethseneme i beleive. or it might be be he leads the 3 to the top of the mountain, and they see Moses and Abraham. im not sure.

  • Great tune! Such a great voice! I first mistook Son house for Led Belly but was quickly corrected! lol...

    Love this version in particular!

  • Which album is this version on? I want it.

  • this song blew me away first time I heard it. I was simply amazed at how that man could make such a powerful song with nothing but his voice and his hands

  • same here, this got me into the blues

  • theres good covers of this song at the beginning of Blues Brothers 2000 and at the end of the season finale of Sons Of Anarchy. good song.

  • great song

  • Those who quest for truth (?)...this is it. You best believe it. God rest you, brother.

  • Amazing. Simply amazing. One of the best songs I have ever heard. So very simple too. And powerful.

  • beautiful.

such power in voice. one of the best bluesmen that ever was.
