jes the "kaiserhymne" is by an austrian and was for an austrian, but at this time kaiser Franz was not the "kaiser" of Austria. He was the last "kaiser" of the german nation (Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation) as Franz II.. Later he became "kaiser" of Austria and was called Franz I..

Ein wunderschönes Stück und sehr einfühlsam intoniert. Wahrscheinlich muss man auf der anderen Seite der Welt (von uns aus gesehen) leben, um dieses Stück völlig vorbehaltlos und unvoreingenommen spielen zu können. germany? he plays the austrian national anthem. thats why it is called "kaiserhymne": by an austrian (Haydn) for an austrian (kaiser franz)

that germany uses it as national anthem is another thing, but hey, germany had two anthems since it became a nation in 1871 and both were from other countries: first god save the king with different lyrics and then the austrian "kaiserhymne" with different lyrics. nothing to be proud of, rather a little sad...

and the DDR "german demokratic republic" had another national anthem, wich the text and melody where made by germans. But this one isn't allowed today. But germany isn't proud of their national athem and we aren't even allowed to sing the first 2 part's of the song.

@KonsolN Hans Eisler was not a German composer. He was an Austrian. He was born in Leipzig. At the age of 3 he moved to vienna. He even serves in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War 1. His father was an Austrian, too.

Actually, in music, there is nothing to be interpreted: task of the performer is to understand the inner integral (as a unity) energy of whatever the composer wrote and perform it not interfering (limiting, changing, adding) in its own energy. Greetings!
