@thechangeling613 Ya..must be really bad being one of the top golfers in the world. Excuse me, what are you one of the top in the world at? (besides being an ass and a hates on other's success)
@SoulSurferGS8 Actually, its personal preference. Moving the ball forward will help get those longer clubs in the air, but if u've good clubhead speed and skill, or u find it hard to solidly hit the ball when it's forward, then by all means keep it in the middle of ur stance.
@tihannorubato I agree. His body is so still through impact ad beyond, so he HAS to retain those angles in the follow-through in order not to hook the ball badly! That's for the "Conservation of Angular Momentum".
Not for nothing here but this is certainly NOT a hitter swing, he is by far a 'swinger' Hitters cut off the backswing well before he cuts this off. a very wide and long backswing = swinging. Chad Campbell, Boo Weekley, Jack Johnson, Ben Hogan after his back issue are/were hitters.
Leadbetter has said that Howell sometimes has trouble with his distance control because of how much he delofts the club (especially with short irons and wedges) but says they've been working on it and he's playing better now. This was around February 2007. Golf Digest will have the article
making a wide arc on the backswing means you can increase your shoulder turn and getting narrow on the downswing creates lag to hit down on the ball ang generate more power. It's the way tiger swings the club so it cant be that bad.
is it good to have that much lag? I think his lag comes from having a strong grip. i think its easier to keep the lag for longer coz you hinge towards the back your hand. Sergio does the same i think and he's got a huge lag as well, but is it good???
Unreal transition....unreal impact....wow. Dunno what he is missing but he has talent that's for sure. Who has an old one? All this talk about improved....I'd like to see anyhow. Not sure what y'all mean.

Shouldn't the ball position be closer to his left foot using a 3 iron?

wide as to wider perimeter on the upswing, narrow as to the lag he has on the downswing.
and wide again after impact to the follow through.
The actual power of this swing comes from the lag.

"wide to narrow to wide"

you can have too much lag! too much lag causes you to deloft the club so much that you have no control over the distance you hit the ball
sdz101090 4 years ago 2
The deflection of the shaft during the divot is unreal.
hmor333 4 years ago
You can't have too much lag..=)
speedracer68 4 years ago
yes you can, too much lag just leads to blocks, its called being trapped and is the exact reason why he changed his swing.
