Well, when the government says that one cannot have a homosexual marriage, or get an abortion, it's primarily because the electorate has moral issues with those things, stemming from their Christian beliefs. Often, for medical reasons, financial reasons, or personal reasons, women cannot carry a fetus to term; they shouldn't have to if they do not wish to, because it's their body.
I'm not a woman, so I don't really know much about it, but I can understand how the abortion procedure; especially with all the blood and the sight of an aborted semi-developed fetus, can be emotionally traumatizing.
Of course it would, because a mother would be looking at her dead baby. It wouldn't cause her emotional trauma to see a cyst removed. It causes emotional trauma to see a tiny human being, lying there on the table, murdered.
By the way, it's a fetus. Not a baby. Do not trivialize fully developed, independently living infant's lives by comparing them to partially developed fetuses that cannot exist outside of a woman's womb, and whose capacity for suffering/feeling/thinking is tremendously limited.
Fetus is the name for a stage of human development. It is just a name in a spectrum of life from conception to death. Calling a human being a fetus does not make that human being less human, just as calling a three year old a toddler doesn't make him not a member of the human family. You can't take away someone's humanity with a name.
Lemme know next time you see a newborn walking or crawling around. Whether or not a person can perform certain activities doesn't disqualify them from being a member of the human race. I'm saying that if it cannot think, conceptualize, feel pain, speak, or display signs of self-awareness, it isn't human. Unborn fetuses suffer less when aborted than the animals we slaughter daily for our food. Is it tragic? Yes, but making it illegal would result in tons of unwanted children, and we all know conservatives don't wanna have to pay for the social programs and services necessary to give those unwanted fetuses good lives if they got to be born anyway.

What you see is a fetus trying to get away from the abortion instrument. The fetus reacts in the same way a "living human" does to danger. It tries to move away but has no place to run. Well, when the government says that one cannot have a homosexual marriage, or get an abortion, it's primarily because the electorate has moral issues with those things, stemming from their Christian beliefs. As a non-Christian, I'd prefer if they chose not to engage in behaviors they deemed immoral, but didn't insist on making their narrow religious morality the guiding part of our legislation. Opposing stem cell research? Opposing vaccines for HPV? Please. I don't want a Christian Gov't.

Do I hate heart surgery? Hip replacement, bypass surgery? Yeah, those all involve blood, and can sometimes not work out. However, they're reality, because people need surgeries. Often, for medical reasons, financial reasons, or personal reasons, women cannot carry a fetus to term; they shouldn't have to if they do not wish to, because it's their body.

So, what you're saying is that all infants which are born pre-maturely (not fully developed) and need life support to survive (cannot survive outside the mother's body) aren't really human and deserve to die? I can assume you weren't born pre-maturely because you're here. If you were, you're not really human and should die.

I'm saying that if it cannot think, conceptualize, feel pain, speak, or display signs of self-awareness, it isn't human. Unborn fetuses suffer less when aborted than the animals we slaughter daily for our food. Is it tragic? Yes, but making it illegal would result in tons of unwanted children, and we all know conservatives don't wanna have to pay for the social programs and services necessary to give those unwanted fetuses good lives if they got to be born anyway.

AntidoteY, have you ever seen a video called "The Silent Scream"? Google it. If you don't want all the educational bits, skip to part 3 (graphic). What you see is a fetus trying to get away from the abortion instrument. The fetus reacts in the same way a "living human" does to danger. It tries to move away but has no place to run. To wit, it is fighting for its life. If it weren't another entity, then its will should be that of the mother, and the will of the mother is its death.

funkbrother216, read about slavery/the Civil War. Back then the majority of Republicans were Northerners; and Democrats, Southerners, and the values of both parties slightly different from today.
Throughout the entire 'building America' and Civil War periods those "Radical Republicans"--so termed by the text--were the ones who were advocates for black freedom! Also, the Dred Scott ruling: Deciding Chief Justice Roger B. Taney was a (Jacksonian) Democrat, and a staunch supporter of slavery.
