@LDS4Life71 It's well known fact that the Holy Bible was compiled after Jesus died, 300 years after he died to be exact. It's also well known fact that most of the holidays and customs were taken from the pagan religions of their time and that the bible was altered to allow other faiths to more easily adopt the new religion. It was not written in Hebrew, Jesus didnt speak Hebrew he spoke Aramaic and that is if Jesus even lived at all in the first place. Good luck.
I almost prefer this version. Fiddlesticks has several fantastic CDs out, including one with some original verses restored to "Come, Come Ye Saints." If you are interested in early LDS music, also keep an eye out for the Beehive Band.
I adore this song! This has to be the first time I have heard it sung in this way. Usually it's faster like what we sing from the hymn books on Sundays. But I see now just what I was missing, this is truly amazing!
Reminds me of what the Saints had to go through after the events at Carthage Jail and how hard it was for them to hold the church together.
the song was written as a eulogy to someone the lds revere (similarly to how most Christians revere Paul and how Jews and Muslims revere Moses),and who the author felt was unjustly killed
it is NOT a song of worship.
these are(and can be searched or found on my channel page):
Unbelief was a reason (still is) but not the only. Power and control was another reason (still is). Fervent belief in the interpretations of man is another, they all apply.
The propheciesin the OT pointed right to Jesus and it all fits together perfectly.
Nothing in the Bible points to Joseph Smith. Nothing unless you're willing to twist scripture.
Wrong here but I suppose it is something hard to see if you refuse to look (with real intent), something I think you have in common with NT Jews.
LDS doctrine is not supported by the Bible unless you're willing to twist and take verses out of context to make it fit. Nothing has been restored because nothing was lost.
You are more than welcome to believe this if you wish.
@snotface7 The entire Bible is nothing more than a "twist" of scriptures. It's not even the original writings, they are interpreted and then translated. Look at how many people out there think that "God" spoke in "thee's" and "thou's", this came from the time when the entire bible was re-written to be in "proper" English of the day which was middle-English. This version of the bible is just the most current interpretation. None of it's real anyway so what's the point or spreading lies/ folklore?
To the ancient Jews Christ came in teaching a different doctrine but in fact he restored the old and built on it with new material. Why did they reject him? In part because he was not the messiah they beloved would come. Their interpretation of the torah was clouded with cultural bias. Stormin is right, the bible supports lds doctrine. It has restored it in part and also builds on it. I see all this as history repeating itself.
Anyone who compares the fundamental principles of the LDS faith to that of what the Bible, specifically the new testament teaches, will see that they are all Biblically supported. The Gospel of Christ has been restored to the earth in its fullness, and His Church as well.
First off lets keep things in context. Gal 1:8 is about the gospel of Christ not books of other faiths.
This is the difference between immortality and eternal life (life in the presence of God). Through the atonement all (including them) will receive immortality but unless they accept Jesus as the Christ (in this life or the next) they will not receive eternal life. This is lds doctrine...
You are right. I miss read your post an assumed that you believed in the trinity....
Many of my examples where of people seeing God the Son and since they are separate and distinct beings (not three in one) i should have read your post more carefully.
However the verse you are using is from the voice of the Lord (who you have already said is God the Son)
17 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a lift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand awhile I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen
"How do you know where the answers are coming from? How do you know for sure when something comes from God or Satan or even your own feelings about it?"
The answer to this is probably different for each person.
For me personally?...well lets see....it came in part as "good fruit" so i know its not from Satan. And it was too profound and sacred to be my own feelings.
"What if you prayed about the Quran or the writings of Ellen G White? "
i think thats an exilent idea...iv read the quran.
. yes we should search the scriptures and most of the answers(if not all) to our questions cand be found there yet serching the scripture is not better than praying. James 1:21, Acts 17:11, John 17:17 does not say that. The bible does say that we should pray to him for answers (Jer. 33: 3, Philip. 4: 6, Ezra 7: 10, James 3: 17)
"So, it's wise to first trust the Bible since it doesn't lie and has been here for over 2000 years?"
The age of the bible has nothing to do with its credibility.
I believe the bible to be the word of God because i have a testimony of it . Thats the difference, i HAVE prayed about it and received reassurance through the Holy Spirit that it is of God. Its pages breath, it whispers truth....so does the BoM. I have prayed about both and have received a testimony of both that is unshakeable.
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no savior.
lol..I wish you all would use a different verse im getting tired of explaining this one
Christians know the Mormon church is false because we compare the doctrine to what God has already told us
So you dont have to pray...i see that as being lazy and taking your faith for granted. The lds are advised to question their belief all the time. I think it is good advice, the irony is those who like to give this advice are not willing to follow it (at least not to the extent that they want others to). At that point they loose a point of credibility in my mind.
I hope and pray you'll investigate this further rather taking what the LDS church teaches."
Asking God about the truthfulness of spiritual things is not new to the lds. The lds church teaches its members to question (prayerfully) all of its doctrine and teachings.
May I ask you do you question your beliefs? Have you prayerfully asked God if your doctrine is correct?
I am a convert; I was raised in the Baptist church. I do not remember the pastor ever telling his congregation to ask God if the bible was His word, or weather what he was teaching them was true. The first thing we ask converts to do is ask God if the BoM is true. Pastors often tell their congregation that they shouldnt pray about the BoM. If I need to pray for guidance so do you.
"It's another gospel which God sternly warns us of"
God did warn us against the perversion of His gospel, but this perversion has already happened. It has happened over time. The bible speaks of a restoration of what was lost (Matt. 17: 11, Mark 9: 12, Eph. 1: 10, Rev. 14: 6), this is what the lds church offers.

What a beautiful arrangement, thank you for sharing this. :)

Oh come on, its just common since.
Are you so blinded to other people that you are not willing to say that they have some truth...thats just sad.

I did not say that they can find salvation in the Quran.

Joseph Smith actually DID NOT SEE God the Father, or he would die (Ex 33:20), that's simple.
DeafBrianPCA 2 years ago
nope, not that simple...there are many examples in the bible of people who did see God and lived to tell about it.
Gen. 12: 7, Gen 18:1&22, Gen 32: 30
Ex. 19:11&21, Ex. 24:10-11, Ex 33:11
Deut. 5:24, Deut. 34:10
1 Kgs.11: 9, Job 19: 26
Isa. 6:1&5. Amos 9:1
John 14: 18&21, 1 Cor. 15: 5-6&8
Acts 1: 3, Acts 9: 5&10&27, Acts 10:40, Acts 13:31, Acts 18:9, Acts 22:18, Acts 23:11, Acts 26:16
snotface7 2 years ago
Snotface is twisting all verses. For example:
Gen 12:7; The Lord appeared as spirit. God is spirit (John 4:24). God is not a man.
Amos 9:1; Who is the Lord? Jesus, of course. Amos did not see God, the Father.
Acts 1:3, They see Jesus was alive.
Acts 9:5, Paul did not see God, the Father.
Acts 10:40; Snotface is getting off-point. I was talking about Joseph Smith did not see God, the Father, period.
Snotface, you are twisting the Scripture and leave the Scripture alone.

Acts 17:11 & James 1:21 say use the Scriptures. 1 John 4:1 tells us to test spirits.
These are all very much in line with lds doctrine.
Gal 1:6-9 and 2 Cor. 11:4 warns us about those that would bring another gospel and/or another Jesus
I agree and it has already happenedin fact the video that I directed you to illustrates where in history it has happened.

The Bible is our Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Everything must be tested according to God's Word.
