At the filming of this video, Connie Kalitta was sending his best techs to the scene to glue/tape it back together enough to do a ferry flight to Tijuana so he could hide it from the FAA while it was overhauled and repaired.
damn thats an old 747 its a 747-100 and even after 30 decades+ of flying t was still going most are retired cause of its age yet this one crashed another one dead :
probably a Qantas aircraft in Kalitta Livery, who would fly Qantas these days, freakin stuff exploding in cargo bays, engines exploding, stuff falling off the aircraft, smoke filling cabins....no thanks, gone from being one of the worlds best airlines to positively 3rd world these days
the airline is owned by Connie kalitta and his son the late Scott kalitta famed national drag racing legends from Michigan. the accident happened in Brussels.
I think this was the plane that was used in the movie called Air Force One with Harrison Ford. This one or another Kallita Air plane. The second one crashed in Columbia few months later and Mr. Kalitta's brother got killed in the very same year. Hard times for him.
That looks exactly like the one that lands at LAX. Is there a systematic problem with the air line, poormaintenance , or was this a once only problem.
The plane is a cargo plane where the nose of the plane lifts up to open up the cargo hold. You can put busses tanks cars boilers everything. The people who loaded it before takeoff probally put something real heavy on a structural point and when he pulled back on the stick it broke like a stick.
Ehm no, why do you think there are loadplans? Just to avoid something like you said would happen. It's not like, we have 43 cargo plates en just put them in like you want.
In response to all the comments of the metal fatige factor, i work for Kalitta Airlines Oscoda Station, and can say that this was 100% Pilot Error, the plane weiged in at approx 3/4 million pounds, the pilot had the nose of the plane in the air when one engine cut out, he heard the noise, freaked out, slammed the nose back down after the point of no return so to speak, which caused the nose to be driven into the ground, that shock split the aircraft not into two but three large pieces.
even worst news, kalitta air just had another accident with a 747 in bogota, colombia. they were delivering flowers to their hub in miami for the company they were hired from, centurion air cargo. not one of their cargo planes landed at the airport here at miami international airport today. i think they' re in trouble.
So you say you feel sorry for Connie Kalitta? The same Connie Kalitta that made his fortune hauling body bags filled with dope out of Vietnam? THAT Connie Kalitta?
oh man...i just came from frankfurt, germany...this is the reason why im so fucking afraid of flying...damn my curiousness for seeing this video...now im never flying on a plane again!
Because the contact between the plane and the overhead wires would result in electrical sparks. Combine this with the highly volatile state of kerosene vapors and you've got the perfect receipt for a big fire. Could be however that the electricity on the overhead wires would've been turned off quickly enough automatically in that case though.
On TV it looks remarkable but it is quite impressive in real live. You don't see it very well on the television images, but the airplane stopped about 10 meters from the railway tracks. In that case a fire would have been highly probable.

@Butters91VR6 Yoke, it's called a yoke, not a stick. The only large cargo plane that uses a stick is the C-17. Look it up.
