Good lord, a blast from the past. Used to go around with this lot in Cheadle Hulme. Steve lived on Bray Close with Phil Ellis. Our local was The Kennilworth where we all used to meet up.
Thanks for uploading this one, brought up some great memories.
Wonder what happened to them all? It'd be nice to know.
i'm a bit hazy on the names (def remember ste darragh - though not seen him for years). i remember bumping into (i think) darren and simon (AND YES THEY WERE FROM CHEADLE HULME) in the puss in boots not long after they'd got a deal with EMI/Atlantic or something like that... they were knocking back champagne like mad (cheers for sharing lads ha ha!!) and they'd got a management deal with the guys who ran curiosity killed the cat and T'pow. nothing came from it sadly...
Cant believe I drew the cover of this record on my wall in Chelford - probably papered over by now- was a lifesize version!! Still got the single and miss the queensgate.
pity their manager was an arse..knew all the band ..both versions ..pete was a top guy..steve the singer was a great song writer..still got the original demo tape at home..i did the original cover for the single
i love this tune reminds me of being 17ish again, they played this in the playpen in manchester and me and me mate were the only guys that danced, we knew the words so everyone thought we were in the band. i wish, heard on kfm stockport radio station. never fordet it.
I was in the second line up of the band with the original singer, performing this track and drinking my way around the nightclubs of the UK. Still sounds fresh and well crafted. A record that changed my life. The producer and I have made other multi-million selling pop tracks. Hearing it takes me back to my teens and some great times. Should have been a bigger hit than it was.
Backing vocals were from Jean Barrow, latin percussion from Dave Hassell. Phil Bush was the engineer. Many long and late sessions with crates of beer sent over from the Lass'O'Gowrie. Endless airplay on KFM and Piccadilly Radio. Shambolic and often deafening live performances!
Probably as close to a hit as you can get without actually having one. Now, who wants to hear the demo?
The track was recorded at Pluto Studios in Manchester's Granby Row (where The Smiths made some demos). Recorded on 24 track 2" analog through a Trident console. Instruments used included the the revolutionary Roland MC-4B microcomposer, the Roland Jupiter 8 (bassline), the MC-202 (the sequency bits in the verses) and drums from an Oberheim DMX with Lexicon 224XL reverb. The brass bits were sampled and pitched using the AMS sampling digital delay. All cutting edge technology at the time.
Of the original four members - i.e. the ones who actually appeared on the record - one runs a nightclub, one has an audio production company, one is a pilot and the other is still a teacher as far as I know. Still waiting for the call from MTV's Bands Reunited!
IAM THE BIGGEST FAN EVER.....cos my brother was in this band.....release it AGAIN!!!....... WOW what memories,,,bring back the 80's and The Queensgate!!!!
They were from Bramhall. Met one of the band in Abersoch, which we used to call 'Bramhall by the sea' Sorry to say that the track wasn't a hit but it should have been. I've got the 12" it takes me back to good times in North Wales.
Steve Darragh is my cousin... omg can't believe this is here on youtube...

Ha ha, I haven't heard this for five years or so now.
My computing teacher from Marple 6th form was Peter Stokes, the origonal guitarist from colour code.
As far as i know he's still there, but I've not seen him for ages.
