Hello Demcad, maybe the main reason that there no all that many black preppers is that those black preppers are in the sidelines and when the shit hits the fan they will not be the ones that are attacked.

I agree too. I went to the Self Reliance Expo in Mesquite, Tx and there were very few minorities that showed up. Granted, it was held on a Friday and Saturday but I was hoping for more than the 3-5 people I saw in two days. The gun shows are the same way.
I agree that it seems a smaller percentage of the black population has a prepper mindset than the white population. I won't speculate why except to say that it is a cultural thing. By that, I don't mean black vs. white; I mean rural vs. urban/suburban. Preppers tend to have roots in rural areas, and rural populations are (for no particular reason) predominantly white. That said, if it all comes down, I'll work with anyone who will work with me, white, black or other to survive & rebuild.

I may sound a little racist here, but everyone can grow up and get over it.
Stereotypically, Jewish and Asian people are known for saving and preparing for the future.
African-Americans are stereotypically known for poor impulse control.
That doesn't mean there aren't exceptions in these groups, though.
It would be interesting to see a study on hormones levels and Dopamine levels in the brain in these groups respectively. Also, which personality types generally predominate.
My concerns are not a knock to all preppers. I think that being prepared is smart. I just think that we think the enemy is someone else from somewhere else and I think it's us. I think we are the enemy to ourselves. Our selfish, over-indulgent, arrogant beliefs and lifestyles are the enemy to all of us, and I honestly think that in the end, that will be what takes us all out. Not some nameless, faceless enemy. Just us. What do you think?
Finally, I think that people really have no idea just how bad it can get. I think some preppers are being very unrealistic. Bugging out will not go as smoothly during a SHTF scenario as it does now that things are sort of normal. There will be utter chaos. All roads will be either blocked or unsafe. What if people are separated from their families and/or their massive stashes of food and ammo when SHTF? One family alone can't stop a huge number of marauders, no matter how good they are.
My greatest concern is that most people in this country are just plain UNFIT. You can have all the food and weaponry skills in the world, but if you can't run or fight because you're a heart attack away from being morbidly obese, you won't survive anyway. Where are the fitness-driven preppers? With some preppers, it's all about buying and hoarding stuff. And quite frankly, everyone should have a stockpile ANYWAY, SHTF or not. That's what my grandma always did and her mom before her.
I have some concerns about all this prepping stuff. In a time when money is too tight to mention, people are spending way too much money on this stuff. I feel like some people are just being terrorized into consuming even more than they do currently. I feel like some so-called preppers are just hoarding stuff and not giving enough rational thought to their surrounding neighbors and friends. Plus, If you have to bug out, how will you take all that stuff with you? You just can't.
I have found racists in all color spectrums. The color of your skin is not what makes you a racist, it's your attitude that does. My skin is not the same color as yours, but if you treat people with respect until they show you they don't deserve any, if you care about the well being of your neighbor regardless of the color of his or her skin, then I could call you friend. Please, don't discount me or assume I mean you harm based only on something that is only "skin deep".

The show mentioned he had a youtube page, so I went to it, watched a couple of videos, had left a comment on one of his videos, only to have him say, as i was leaving a comment that he didn't trust black people and they were always trying to screw over the white man. That's just one of the many incidences were I have been expose to a sort of racial bais, particularly on the web, surplus stores, and gun shops.
From reading some of your video responses, It clear that we as African American and other minorities need to educate each other on prepping and set up some sort of network. I have just finished watching the premiere of 'Doomsday Preppers" on Natgeo and there was a prepper that seem to be very knowledgeable about what he was talking about.

Pardon my context, but if you're into anthropology at all, you'd realize that there are many, many black preppers in Africa. Let's be honest, most of the central African tribes know how to farm, hunt, forage, make weapons and natural building materials, store for long term, make their own clothes, share their resources, and live without handouts. Just because the media focuses on the starving who've been displaced by civilization doesn't mean that most off grid Africans are suffering.
I live in GA, and am a black prepper (almost put pepper,lol), there are literally zero like minded black or whites that I know who prep. Granted im fairly young, 25, and most people my age are not really into prepping. They think my guns and survival gear is cool and always say " if the zombie apocalypse happens, im headed to ur place", little do they know they will be met with an AR15 barrel... would love to meet some like minded preppers in GA who are actually putting in effort.

Thank you for this video. I am also a Black Prepper and I do find it difficult to bring awareness to most of my family and friends. I thing this probably is the case for most preppers, but blacks just like you said in the video should educate ourselves and build a strong network, because in rough times people in general go back to what they know as comfort and safety. Ill tell you what it is we just not on youtube showing our supply. I know a great deal of them. The ones who live near me are also taking their neighbors in to context making sure they have food for them as well when I was introduce to this idea I was blown away. This guy does the ammo, this guy takes care of the food for 5 families, and the neighbor down the street has a water system made out of many 55gal barrels all connected to one another. its very impressive. Strength in numbers.

The poorest white man still enjoys White Privilege; more likely to get hired + higher pay, more likely to not be a suspect, etc. White women can be considered minorities, due to the fact that WASP white men harbor a sense-of-entitlement and are generally misogynistic. Black white purple green people need to pull together in a SHTF situation not go solo, community / neighborhood food banks, watches, ring the town bell and come running like a volunteer fire department. Do the drill and prepare to have a lot of friends when SHTF hits because you have enough food and supplies to give to those who aren't. Its the American way to pull together not apart. I spent a few days at the Pittsburgh occupy. The black people wanting to be part of occupy did so in their own group. It was told to me, that they were sick of the cops selectively engaging in thug behavior and harassment on them. And because of this they didn't want to join the mostly white occupy groups.

Take for instance the frontiersman of the early United States of America. There were many different cultures that came together to learn things like trapping skills in order to profit. One cabin with maybe 4 or 5 trappers and there are many older stories like that. Be they French, Russian, Early American, Scott, Irish, Dutch: They all worked together for the profit of all.
Too bad that didn't parlay to the general populace, the world may be a far better place should that have been the case.

I am glad to know you. We all need to work together on preparing for the inevitable collapse of society. It's old school. Used to be back in the day everyone did this. It was just common sense. I am Black and I am somewhat new to prepping. I do own firearms, keep a supply of food and water. I have found a few other Black preppers in my area. They tend to be ex-military. With the number of people buying firearms increasing (Black aand female) I think you will see more Black preppers.

Nave you spent 3 days, in the woods, during a winter storm ? ... No? ... U r not ready for squat ! 5-minute bugout drill? To WHERE ?

There's a group of us here in Detroit that takes prepping seriously. There will be a breakdown in this country. We don't know whether it will be political, natural disaster or a combination of both. I'm preparing bug out packs for each member of my family. Stocking up on water, certain canned goods, etc. Detroit is already like Iraq right now!!!

I am a black prepper as well and I think there are more of us than you think just most of us are quiet about it. Also, due to racial issues how easy is it going to be for us to find a place of belonging. When things are going good folks still think we are all bad just because of the color of our skin. I originally grew up in Wyoming and we are very few far and in between.

I can appreciate the fact that you step up to the plate and addressed the fact that there are very few black preppers . i would like to tell you that my family and i are black and we beleive in prepping 100% .Our motto is we would rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. starting to prep myself.. always had some type of fire arm here and a few MREs. I'm black.. and carry a XD45 and soon an AR. starting a bugout bag soon. I haven't seen man y black preppers at all aside from you on youtube. but i know that when SHTF that survival is gonna be the key and we all need to get ready for it.

Hey! I like your video! I live in the Southeast and I am white. I totally understand the apprehensiveness you feel about being black and a prepper. That TRULY makes you a minorety of sorts, for the reasons you mentioned. I work in a predomanently black neighborhood that's also not very safe, shootings weekly. Being white, I worry about having to bug out through these neighborhoods on foot. Would I find help or would I be robbed w/in minutes of my attempt to make a break. What it comes down to...
@hrdknox2000 Is having a multicultural mix of friends. If you're a black prepper, make friends with ANY preppers you meet, regardless of color, and let them know your skill sets, etc. and that your serious about survival. Make bug out plans and retreat locations with any decent prepper you meet and see through color. From what I see of you, that shouldn't be too tough to do. You seem rational, and intelligent and friendly. That goes a LONG way in a bad situation where people are on edge!

My feeling is that a good deal of it would be for economic reasons. Very hard to start thinking of prepping when you are just making it from week to week and also when starting out it is easy to get overwhelmed
@JtheRed99 bull ! a lot of the posting preppers are low income. Most of the poor ones seem to be country people and i would guess that lots of city people , especially blacks don't want to be seen as country prepper h-i-c-k-s.
Demcad, my family is interracial and we are preppers. I think some of the comments are correct in saying it’s a matter of attitude. Sometimes you have to go through something before you wake up. Sometimes some people never wake up ever after the storm hits. I’ve always prepared for winters being a small farmer, however the incompetence of govt with New Orleans put me in a new mindset.
I'm in Sacramento, im BLACK and I'm a prepper! How ironic. And in America...RACE STILL MATTERS. It shouldn't...but it does. And it's not just Whites making an issue of race...Blacks can make just as much of a racial roadblock as Whites ever have. But race is still an issue that divides a diverse community more than it unites that community. That is just the plain and simple truth.

Could it be that most preppers are persuaded by southern dissent toward the government post Civil War. And an idea that "big government" or the system of agencies of the government and public paid workers are somehow doomed to fail. Its a idea carried on by modern republicans that seems to strike at the Union vs Confederacy model for governmental structure. Not that politicians really hold that idea for themselves but that's how they market it to the people.
Hey I'm betting it's the same as for me: I'm not black but I'm blind. People tend to take you less seriously if you are new to something and you are in what they perceive as a minority. I have started doing what you do: except the guns, I cannot shoot without eyesight. But I can carry and use a knife effectively, and most people need to learn to sharpen theirs. On a rock if need be. Before you claim that you can't, I can without eyes, so you can. And even a dull blade can be brought back

Most black people are not inclined because they don't see disaster coming. You are not the only one though. I have found that as usuall you will always have a minority population when using race, creed, religion or some other seperation/classification factor. When looking at how a group is made up. Beware the government is now looking into anyone who has more than a weeks food supply. They don't care about color.

If there's major SHTF I predict you will see a lot of racial lines drawn in this country (especially in the South). Unfortunately most black people are not even prepared for when everything is going well. That is why so many are on welfare and food stamps. Years of social engineering by progressive socialists has destroyed the black family.
Take back your community. Help some young abandoned young black boys and be a surrogate dad to them. I am white and I help some African emigrant kids here in Europe. I don't complain, I just do something.

Good question. I think the number of black preppers probably equals the number of blacks who go camping... in the woods... with all the scary animals. I also think most black families living in the big cities tend to believe government will be there for them. It's like a picture I have above my computer taken after Katrina hit... hundreds of blacks stranded on an elevated highway (water beneath the highway) waiting to be saved. No prepping in that.
For most preppers, race is not an issue. You are seeing a cultural difference and an entitlement mindset that affects more races than just black people. There are plenty of college educated white people who are ignorant of prepping; most of which don't even know the term. All I can say is that if you have your head out of your ass, you will find like minded people and closer than you think. Color doesn't matter; it's the mindset you are looking for.

'Why are there so few urban preppers?' might be a better question. A lot of folks don't think about it when the store is right around the corner, and most urban residences pose a storage problem as well. Shame when food supply chains in cities are so fragile. Rural people have always kept extra on hand, regardless of race. When the store is 10+ miles away people usually buy groceries by the month or more. Suburban preppers are increasing, too, so I imagine we'll see more soon.
I don't want to have the racial component becoming an issue where White People have to make political decisions. However for every rule there is exceptions but I'm just keeping it real. Also I subscribe to the THE PRECEPTS OF RAWLESIAN SURVIVALIST PHILOSOPHY

Also urban/city environments where there are large majorities of Black People breeds dependency regardless of who you are. Cities are built with infrastructure so that there are multiple systems that depend on one another hence intrinsic dependency. Black people who are not city people or anyone who is not a city person are more Self Reliant and prone to be Preppers. I'm looking for Black Preppers or potential Black Preppers in the NYC area. Nothing personal but in a stressful survival situation
Another point is that White People like 1TacticalMedic probably means well but growing up in this historically racist society he doesn't realize saying that you don't see color (especially US darker skinned Black folks LOL!!) means that you don't see me for who I am. It's like saying you don't see height when an adult is 7 feet tall or 4 feet tall. See me as Black and accepting I',m Black is better than not seeing color. If you can't do that then that is one of the problems Black Preppers have.
As a Black person growing up with White people and adult interactions, I can tell you that everyone does not feel the same as 1Tacticalmedic about Black people. More importantly White people need to understand that you may be forced to make a choice between family or friends to defend Black people or Black friend that may have a problem with Black people. I'm telling you from personal experience. Not all my "white friends" were risk physical harm for a social stand and friendship.

I agree too. I went to the Self Reliance Expo in Mesquite, Tx and there were very few minorities that showed up. Granted, it was held on a Friday and Saturday but I was hoping for more than the 3-5 people I saw in two days. The gun shows are the same way.

I agree that it seems a smaller percentage of the black population has a prepper mindset than the white population. I won't speculate why except to say that it is a cultural thing. By that, I don't mean black vs. white; I mean rural vs. urban/suburban. Preppers tend to have roots in rural areas, and rural populations are (for no particular reason) predominantly white. That said, if it all comes down, I'll work with anyone who will work with me, white, black or other to survive & rebuild.

Stereotypically, Jewish and Asian people are known for saving and preparing for the future.
African-Americans are stereotypically known for poor impulse control.
That doesn't mean there aren't exceptions in these groups, though.
It would be interesting to see a study on hormones levels and Dopamine levels in the brain in these groups respectively. Also, which personality types generally predominate.

My concerns are not a knock to all preppers. I think that being prepared is smart. I just think that we think the enemy is someone else from somewhere else and I think it's us. I think we are the enemy to ourselves. Finally, I think that people really have no idea just how bad it can get. I think some preppers are being very unrealistic. Bugging out will not go as smoothly during a SHTF scenario as it does now that things are sort of normal. There will be utter chaos. All roads will be either blocked or unsafe. What if people are separated from their families and/or their massive stashes of food and ammo when SHTF? One family alone can't stop a huge number of marauders, no matter how good they are.

My greatest concern is that most people in this country are just plain UNFIT. You can have all the food and weaponry skills in the world, but if you can't run or fight because you're a heart attack away from being morbidly obese, you won't survive anyway. Where are the fitness-driven preppers? With some preppers, it's all about buying and hoarding stuff. And quite frankly, everyone should have a stockpile ANYWAY, SHTF or not. That's what my grandma always did and her mom before her.

The show mentioned he had a youtube page, so I went to it, watched a couple of videos, had left a comment on one of his videos, only to have him say, as i was leaving a comment that he didn't trust black people and they were always trying to screw over the white man. Pardon my context, but if you're into anthropology at all, you'd realize that there are many, many black preppers in Africa. Let's be honest, most of the central African tribes know how to farm, hunt, forage, make weapons and natural building materials, store for long term, make their own clothes, share their resources, and live without handouts. Ill tell you what it is we just not on youtube showing our supply. I know a great deal of them. The ones who live near me are also taking their neighbors in to context making sure they have food for them as well when I was introduce to this idea I was blown away. This guy does the ammo, this guy takes care of the food for 5 families, and the neighbor down the street has a water system made out of many 55gal barrels all connected to one another. its very impressive. I spent a few days at the Pittsburgh occupy. The black people wanting to be part of occupy did so in their own group. It was told to me, that they were sick of the cops selectively engaging in thug behavior and harassment on them. And because of this they didn't want to join the mostly white occupy groups.

Take for instance the frontiersman of the early United States of America. There were many different cultures that came together to learn things like trapping skills in order to profit. One cabin with maybe 4 or 5 trappers and there are many older stories like that. Be they French, Russian, Early American, Scott, Irish, Dutch: They all worked together for the profit of all.
Too bad that didn't parlay to the general populace, the world may be a far better place should that have been the case.

There's a group of us here in Detroit that takes prepping seriously. There will be a breakdown in this country. We don't know whether it will be political, natural disaster or a combination of both. Also, due to racial issues how easy is it going to be for us to find a place of belonging. When things are going good folks still think we are all bad just because of the color of our skin. I can appreciate the fact that you step up to the plate and addressed the fact that there are very few black preppers . i would like to tell you that my family and i are black and we beleive in prepping 100% .Our motto is we would rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. starting to prep myself.. always had some type of fire arm here and a few MREs. I'm black.. and carry a XD45 and soon an AR. starting a bugout bag soon. I haven't seen man y black preppers at all aside from you on youtube. but i know that when SHTF that survival is gonna be the key and we all need to get ready for it.

Hey! I like your video! I live in the Southeast and I am white. I totally understand the apprehensiveness you feel about being black and a prepper. That TRULY makes you a minorety of sorts, for the reasons you mentioned. I work in a predomanently black neighborhood that's also not very safe, shootings weekly. If you're a black prepper, make friends with ANY preppers you meet, regardless of color, and let them know your skill sets, etc. and that your serious about survival. Make bug out plans and retreat locations with any decent prepper you meet and see through color. From what I see of you, that shouldn't be too tough to do. You seem rational, and intelligent and friendly. That goes a LONG way in a bad situation where people are on edge!

My feeling is that a good deal of it would be for economic reasons. Very hard to start thinking of prepping when you are just making it from week to week and also when starting out it is easy to get overwhelmed

Demcad, my family is interracial and we are preppers. I think some of the comments are correct in saying it’s a matter of attitude. Sometimes you have to go through something before you wake up. Sometimes some people never wake up ever after the storm hits. I’ve always prepared for winters being a small farmer, however the incompetence of govt with New Orleans put me in a new mindset.

And it's not just Whites making an issue of race...Blacks can make just as much of a racial roadblock as Whites ever have. But race is still an issue that divides a diverse community more than it unites that community. That is just the plain and simple truth.

Could it be that most preppers are persuaded by southern dissent toward the government post Civil War. And an idea that "big government" or the system of agencies of the government and public paid workers are somehow doomed to fail. Its a idea carried on by modern republicans that seems to strike at the Union vs Confederacy model for governmental structure. Not that politicians really hold that idea for themselves but that's how they market it to the people.

What ever your color is I don't plan on "networking" to group up during SHTF.
I suppose their is some use to that but I plan for my family to be my group.
True bigger groups can get more done.. but they also require more and supplies.
I plan to fortify my house, I'll be civil out in public though, can't hole up for ever.
Unlike most people who talk about bugging out that is the very last thing i'll do.
Im not abandoning my house unless it's on fire, flooded, or a nuke is coming.

Hey I'm betting it's the same as for me: I'm not black but I'm blind. People tend to take you less seriously if you are new to something and you are in what they perceive as a minority. I have started doing what you do: except the guns, I cannot shoot without eyesight. But I can carry and use a knife effectively, and most people need to learn to sharpen theirs. On a rock if need be. Before you claim that you can't, I can without eyes, so you can. And even a dull blade can be brought back

Most black people are not inclined because they don't see disaster coming. You are not the only one though. I have found that as usuall you will always have a minority population when using race, creed, religion or some other seperation/classification factor. When looking at how a group is made up. Beware the government is now looking into anyone who has more than a weeks food supply. They don't care about color.

Unfortunately most black people are not even prepared for when everything is going well. That is why so many are on welfare and food stamps. Years of social engineering by progressive socialists has destroyed the black family.
Take back your community. Help some young abandoned young black boys and be a surrogate dad to them. I am white and I help some African emigrant kids here in Europe. I don't complain, I just do something.

Good question. I think the number of black preppers probably equals the number of blacks who go camping... in the woods... with all the scary animals. I also think most black families living in the big cities tend to believe government will be there for them. It's like a picture I have above my computer taken after Katrina hit... hundreds of blacks stranded on an elevated highway (water beneath the highway) waiting to be saved. No prepping in that.

For most preppers, race is not an issue. You are seeing a cultural difference and an entitlement mindset that affects more races than just black people. There are plenty of college educated white people who are ignorant of prepping; most of which don't even know the term. All I can say is that if you have your head out of your ass, you will find like minded people and closer than you think. Color doesn't matter; it's the mindset you are looking for.

'Why are there so few urban preppers?' might be a better question. A lot of folks don't think about it when the store is right around the corner, and most urban residences pose a storage problem as well. Shame when food supply chains in cities are so fragile. Rural people have always kept extra on hand, regardless of race. When the store is 10+ miles away people usually buy groceries by the month or more. Suburban preppers are increasing, too, so I imagine we'll see more soon.

Also urban/city environments where there are large majorities of Black People breeds dependency regardless of who you are. Cities are built with infrastructure so that there are multiple systems that depend on one another hence intrinsic dependency. Black people who are not city people or anyone who is not a city person are more Self Reliant and prone to be Preppers. I'm looking for Black Preppers or potential Black Preppers in the NYC area. Another point is that White People like 1TacticalMedic probably means well but growing up in this historically racist society he doesn't realize saying that you don't see color (especially US darker skinned Black folks LOL!!) means that you don't see me for who I am. It's like saying you don't see height when an adult is 7 feet tall or 4 feet tall. See me as Black and accepting I',m Black is better than not seeing color. If you can't do that then that is one of the problems Black Preppers have.

As a Black person growing up with White people and adult interactions, I can tell you that everyone does not feel the same as 1Tacticalmedic about Black people. More importantly White people need to understand that you may be forced to make a choice between family or friends to defend Black people or Black friend that may have a problem with Black people. I'm telling you from personal experience. Not all my "white friends" were risk physical harm for a social stand and friendship.
