I've always preferred the graphics in games like this and in the fmv sequences of the old playstation games like tekken 3 ff7 + 9 and resident evil and figured out the other day it's because they're hand drawn first so you get an artists interpretation of an image as opposed to a computer designed image. It does make a huge difference imo

Rampart was the best. Sure, gold dragons were susceptible to implosion and immune to resurrection, but Mephala with their overall Rush and Slash away setup was unbeatable with a simple magic resistance set of artifacts and secondary skill. God, at level 20 having a base resistance of 30% damage before including hero stats was unfair when it was rare to run into someone with the expert level at 15%. And Rampart really was the image of the fantasy realm, since it was made of mythology. Awesome!

This would probably be my favorite town if their best unit wasn't a dragon.

Yeah Dragons can fly, but they are vulnerable to slayer, and a clever enemy will get the dragon to decimate an adjacent allied stack with breath attack. Plus the invulnerability to spells mean you also can't resurrect them, and being a fast flying high level monster, likely to get pounded on mercilessly.

Technical capabilities are things like lighting and texture fidelity. Art style is how those things are used. It's like any work of art, the former is the medium, and the latter artist's use of that medium. In any generation of games, one can find games where its graphics have stood the test of time because of art style. I agree that Heroes 3 is one of them.

Then the game Torment, then Baulder's gate, The I saw the movie "The Lord of the Rings" for the first time.
