the only problem with long songs is that people, no matter how good the song is, get bored after more than 7-8 minutes, i once saw an interview with Kirk Hammet (Metallica) saying that the reason they didnt play "...and justice for all" for a long time wasnt because it was hard to play or hard to play for 9 minutes (cos it was) but because it was really anoying to stand on-stage giving everything you got when the audience is either bored or half asleep.
@psykosauron Unfortunately i'd never heard of blind guardian when this show was played but if it was nowadays i'd be like this :D all the way through this song!!
There's a few 10+ minute songs i love from start to finish but people have their own likes and dislikes lol
@psykosauron well that's true.but not in this song.noone gets bored because they alla wait for the NANANANANANA part.at least i was not bored when i saw them live
@psykosauron Well, I don't know. When they started to play this song I was like: "No, way! Are they really going to play it?" I couldn't believe. I remember, I was jumping like crazy from the very first moment till the very end and when I came back home moments from this song were first to be mentioned to my friends. It was epic! :D
@psykosauron maybe you are wrong (as possibly said times and times before me) For example, with songs like Loreena McKenitt's Highwayman you want them to never end.
@sanctumofficium Yeah, this is a song for eternity. I honestly think that is is the most perfect song I've ever heard. There is just NOTHING even remotely bad about it. There are no parts which are too long. None which are too short. All parts are awesome. I'm really glad they went back to writing songs in a similar style on the new album.
It certainly does take a lot of epicosity for a 14 minute song to not get repetitive or boring, but And Then There Was Silence does it. It's too bad that the camera is so sporadic, you'd think they could stay on the same picture for longer than 3 seconds, but apparently they can't. But this combination of pure epic-ness and supreme power metal cannot be marred by seizures!!!
The most epic song blind guardian has ever made! Dont get me wrong, blind guardian has made genius songs as Nightfall, Mirror Mirror and The Bard's Song but this is 14 minutes and dont get boring. That is what I call Epic. This is also my favourite song from Blind Guardian:)
I am extremely pleased by Hansi's performance here. Even without the layered vocals, he manages to pull it off very well. Kudos to him and the rest of the band, they exceeded my expectations with this song live. BG for life.
You cannot get bored on a Guardian's song!! It's impossible!!
How could you get bored when you listen to "And There Was Silence" or "The Wheel of Time" ?
They are (like all the other BG songs) the pure essence of epicness! XD

This song is fucking epic. Sacred Worlds and Wheel of Time are also damn epic too, but And Then There Was Silence will always take first prize.

@sanctumofficium Wheel of time is my personal fav from ATEOT but ATTWS will always be better :D

@gazbg123 Wheel of Time, Sacred Worlds and the classic masterpiece ATTWS are the three single most played songs on my ipod.

@gazbg123 wheel of time is one of the worst songs of blind guardian for me
AXLPANOSROSE 7 months ago
@AXLPANOSROSE maybe that's because you don't read Robert Jordan. Even in that case, "the Wheel of Time" is a must (for me anyway)
