  • Thank you for the upload. Im doing a Historiography Essay on John Locke, and this helped alot with the general information.

  • Nice work girls. You made it actually intresting to listen too. :-)

  • I really enjoyed this- giving real means for thought... as an early year educator I believe his theories have deep meanings for today thank you

  • damn

  • Hey look, it's the guy from old school!..,

  • woops thoght this wuz the song

  • Well done Ladies!

  • Slow down

  • you are talking too fast.

  • A shame the morons running the New Zealand justice system do not ascribe to the basic principles of John Locke, heaven is the only hope for New Zealand citizens caught up in the district courts in this modern day, down under its to hell with Locke and the principle of a fair trial given under the hand of King John at runeymead, a great man and an even greater philosophy, relevant yesterday and today

  • Good video. One thing though, Locke was a theologian not a philosopher.

  • @bRizzle2009100 we are all philosophers and theologians...

  • @Shroommduke Well John Locke was a Christian theologian and his writings had a vehemently Biblical meaning. His "Two Treatises on Civil Government" have over 1,700 references to the Bible. He even says that any human law must be based on Biblical law and any human law that contradicts Biblical law is null and void. That was the sum of the Law of Nature.

  • @bRizzle2009100 Thanks, that was very well said!

I'll have to read his Treatises on Civil Government some day!

  • @Shroommduke No problem. The new book by Mark Levin, "Ameritopia" highlights much of what he says about Natural Law. Others like Sir William Blackstone & Charles de Montesquei also talk about natural law in the same context as Locke. After that, I would read James Wilson's "Lecture on Law" who was a signer of Constitution & an original US Supreme Court Justice. He also talks about natural law & how everything government does must be based on it. But he got it from the 3 guys mentioned before.

  • I think that some of the quotes in this video were made out of context. For example, when John Locke defines "Fatih" as the "assent to any proposition not made out by the deduction of reason, but upon the credit of the proposer."

If you think about what the words actually mean, what he is really talking about is the logical fallacy called "appealing to authority", which at that time were "kings" appointed by "God" that ruled over most countries. John Locke however was a man of "Reason".

  • @stevandjaz so considering the general social cultural spiritual and political climate... someone who would be seen as a conservative and religious zealot today might have been a flaming liberal back in the 17th century...

our perspective is much different today, these things need to be taken in context.

  • Excellent ... if only I'd watched Lost :( .... 'once the whole world was America' is the Locke quotation that most explains his point of view for me.

  • John Locke was close with “Property,” Jefferson got closer with “pursuit of Happiness,” I found the key to all Life: pursuit of Objectives. We may generalize Jefferson when “Happiness” is viewed as a metaphor of some positive feedback after an accomplished Objective. When using such logic, these Rights become universal to all Life, from bacteria to humans. See my channel video for the proof.

  • @Mike10four Well put! Interesting perspective. Thank you for the thoughtful comment!

  • lol the picture at the beginning is john locke from lost!!!!!!!!!!

  • Obviously, this whole 'Lost' scene, haha

  • 4 8 15 16 23 42

  • what's with the drama programme footage...? I thpought you were talking about phiosophy. Surley people are not that dumb they need a soap opera to make a point to them, if so then i'm giving up on life.

  • John Locke liberalism is today called libertarianism. Ron Paul 2012 take our government back!

  • Classical Liberalism FTW!

  • thank you!

  • He is my kin.

  • "Enter your text here"

  • This is great.

  • nicely done. well connected

  • what is this movie called?

  • cool..more!

  • fantastic vid girls

  • Our country really needs to start looking back to it's roots if it wants to get on the right track again.

  • this is so great!!!!!!!! It really helped me in studying for my test tomorrow. Now when I will be writing my essay I will be thinking of your video. Thanks so much, I am going to bed early tonight!!!!!!!!

  • he was good but i failed a test in philosophy about him :(

  • John Locke invented the USA. Fu&%in genius! I wonder what all the other countries are waiting for...Proofs in the pudding. :D

  • Finally, a video with the actual Locke.

I type in "John Locke" and all I get is LOST.

  • @caitlinx54 i know, i was a bit embarrassed when all i saw was lost crap

  • @caitlinx54 Yes, this is a reflection of this base, dead age - which once again reminds me of its epitaph:

    O age, thou art shamed.*

O shame, where is thy blush?**

    -Shakespeare, Julius Caesar,* Hamlet**

  • John Locke is... Ugh! I think I just lost alot of respect for him.

  • WOW what an outlandish project. Very well done.

  • Never tell John Locke what he can't do.

  • In his essay concerning human ect

He sounds like an apologetic pussy. What's the point in apologizing to the public to start off a book? Get on with it. time is a precious commodity.

This clip is a lot easier for me to get to his points.

  • John Locke was the first American

  • Wow, loved your video. Both are realy similar. And I enjoyed the clips as well. Keep doing the good job! Lost realy is amazing.

  • Jefferson said that Bacon, Locke and Newton were the greatest men to live without exception.

Jefferson was pretty great himself tho.

  • Along with Aristotle

  • bloody brilliant.

  • This lite, lite information regarding John Lock is okay...(its more complex that a 'blank slate'), but comparing it to TV's LOST is not a parellel comparison, IMO. It throws Locke's phillosophy and unerlying meaning way off base. Turn off the set. Try the Declaration of Independence for better reasoning of Locke's views on Civil Government, not this schlock of pop culture. (But if you do want TV shows, finding clips from Law and Order may give a better perspective of Locke.)

  • John Locke will fuck up England's shit.

  • lol. you know it!

  • If experience shapes our character, and experience involves what happens to us, then our lives are determined by experience. If, on the other hand, they're determined by reason, then that is what shapes us. The basis of the reason VS experience debate wasn't about which one gives us more freedom. It was meant to explain how we acquire knowledge. Neither of these 2 options has more favorable consequences for freedom than the other. It's a debate about knowledge, not freedom. Otherwise well done.

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • Comment removed

  • this video is very good... i have i report about John locke because i see this video i can get some ideas how i report it to the class... thank you very much to people who upload this video...and more power to you...God Bless to all..

  • I'm curious about the similarities about the (Desmond) David Humes and Rousseaus :D

  • Totally! A bunch of them are based on philosophers from the age of reason. LOST is so above my head!! lol

  • I love this video! So interesting!

  • Joshua Washington is a GOD dont forget it.. "Alabama" by way of nashville

  • thanx im writing an essay right now thats due 2marrow i really needed the info

    ZERK

  • wow this is really good..i have an exam on Locke in like 6 days it could be nice for someone to explain his ideas on abstract ideas..lol

  • I've watched AT _Lost_ a few times, but it soon became obvious to me that this show is far to convoluted to watch AT.

However, I have relatives who watch the show nigh on to religiously, and I will be linking them to this.

And really, it does help one to see Locke's philosophy in action. I think I might have Anzu, the high school girl I'm writing a story about, mention tabula rasa.

  • Oh, I guess what I'm trying to say is: good job.

I should just say these things, instead of just hoping it's understood, lol.

  • This presentation evinces a very superficial understanding of the treatise

  • hahaha thanks

  • Hey guys, instead of flaming this video for being superficially complete, you could read the description - this was a SCHOOL PROJECT. Were you expecting an A&E biography or something? Jeez.

    Pretty good bronti28

  • Thank you! you understand!!! :D

  • I really liked your video! I´m studying political science on a Swedish university right now. When we talked about the thinkers of the 17th century, I also analyzed the similarities between the real Locke and Lost-Locke. I really like them both xD

  • @bronti28 john lock said that newborn life is like a blank sheet of paper right ?=P

  • @jmtdt yes and a school project should be done with passion and insight . i dont expect great graphics and technique but i want substance. it sounds like they are reading from a technical manuel not about real belief.

  • locke is far better than hobbes!! haha

  • yeah!

  • Amazing job! The comparement between John Locke from LOST, and John Locke the philosopher was really spectacular! :D

Especially how you were using the facts about Locke the philosopher together with the clips from the LOST serie!

The way you presented your work was both interesting and fun! I learned something interesting today! ;D

  • thank you very much :)

  • Great Job!

  • someone can please, show me the "scripts" ? I can't understand some words, and I need to put a subtitle on that video

  • sub spanish??????' please!

  • Wow, what a great video. People need to learn from our history and see how far removed we are from what they created for us. We are all slaves to a master and all serve that master. Federal Central Stateism.

  • Great! were did you get the clips

  • i own the seasons so we just took clips using snapz pros. im pretty sure they automatically go into imovie as well.. not sure

  • thank you, well done.

  • Humanity had an age of reason?

  • NBC's show? It's ABC

  • yeah, we know. another guy already corrected us :(

    our bad, thanks anyways!

  • wow this is really good :)

  • Brilliant video, thank you.

  • You can't just say Nietzsche is better or Locke.

The two contributed their wisdom for us to evaluate and thereby choose.

I like Nietzsche myself, but I admire all thinkers because all of them have their share of knowledge for us to decide.

  • locke was brilliant but his obsession with property is what made his philosophy incoherent.

  • interesting comment. Thank you fede2

  • my pleasure

  • interesting. what's your take on bentham then?

  • i'm not familiar with his philosophy

  • such a boring cadence and trivial contents... you tube is far too democratic

  • lol. then don't go on it.

  • whos that?

  • this is pretty cool

  • thank you!

  • hinteresting, thats kl the creators of popular culture are interested in things like philosophy

  • yeah!!

  • Nice job on the vid. This is Govind btw

  • im a very visual person so if you just talk like that i will probably understand nothing which is the case. maybe put words of wat you say

  • maybe this video is not for you.

i am also a visual learner. but this is just a social project

  • Where'd you get the picture at 1:41?

  • i dont know. its pretty nice though!

  • I am loathe of British Liberalism and hold it in utmost contempt.

  • Alright!

  • why?

  • what?

  • what?

  • John Locke drafted a Constitution for the Carolinas and wanted insitute feudalism in North America. The emphasis on John Locke in academia is a large part of the corruption of modern education.

  • "the little and almost insensible impressions on our infancies have very important and lasting consequences".........is so true. cool video bronti28!!

  • Thank you! We appreciate the comment!!!

  • The network is ABC, not NBC.

  • Our bad. But that was not the focus of our video.

  • Hi, can you send me the text of your video. May be in english.

  • cool video you should make one of thomas paine

  • hahaha only if my social teacher requires it. haha

    it took a long time.

but thanks for the comment bluesrockro.

  • lol+

  • shut up you queer noob.

    get some skill!!

  • are u talking about john locke....haha

  • FAGS

    --love dave

  • lol

  • Thank you so much! I am working on an essay right now for school and this video helped me soo much!

  • Locke is also usually cited for his views on property rights. Landowners along with most students think he gave justification for absolute rights of property especially in regard of ownership of the earth. But he said this: "When the 'sacredness' of property is talked of, it should be remembered that any such sacredness does not belong in the same degree to landed property." The reason for this is that he thought that land must be shared and land monopoly avoided to avoid economic injustice.

  • what is lindex?

  • lindex

  • yaaa!!! lost!!! wooo!

  • "umans"

  • lol+
