For great philosophy try Robert M. Price, Daniel Dennett, John W. Loftus, Victor J Stenger, Dan Barker, Keith Parsons, Ken Pulliam, Jason Long, Ken Humphreys, Joseph Wheless, Richard Dawkins, C. Dennis Mckinsey
A shame the morons running the New Zealand justice system do not ascribe to the basic principles of John Locke, heaven is the only hope for New Zealand citizens caught up in the district courts in this modern day, down under its to hell with Locke and the principle of a fair trial given under the hand of King John at runeymead, a great man and an even greater philosophy, relevant yesterday and today
@Shroommduke Well John Locke was a Christian theologian and his writings had a vehemently Biblical meaning. His "Two Treatises on Civil Government" have over 1,700 references to the Bible. He even says that any human law must be based on Biblical law and any human law that contradicts Biblical law is null and void. That was the sum of the Law of Nature.
@Shroommduke No problem. The new book by Mark Levin, "Ameritopia" highlights much of what he says about Natural Law. Others like Sir William Blackstone & Charles de Montesquei also talk about natural law in the same context as Locke. After that, I would read James Wilson's "Lecture on Law" who was a signer of Constitution & an original US Supreme Court Justice. He also talks about natural law & how everything government does must be based on it. But he got it from the 3 guys mentioned before.
I think that some of the quotes in this video were made out of context. For example, when John Locke defines "Fatih" as the "assent to any proposition not made out by the deduction of reason, but upon the credit of the proposer."
If you think about what the words actually mean, what he is really talking about is the logical fallacy called "appealing to authority", which at that time were "kings" appointed by "God" that ruled over most countries. John Locke however was a man of "Reason".
I think that some of the quotes in this video were made out of context. For example, when John Locke defines "Fatih" as the "assent to any proposition not made out by the deduction of reason, but upon the credit of the proposer."

@stevandjaz so considering the general social cultural spiritual and political climate... someone who would be seen as a conservative and religious zealot today might have been a flaming liberal back in the 17th century...
our perspective is much different today, these things need to be taken in context.
John Locke was close with “Property,” Jefferson got closer with “pursuit of Happiness,” I found the key to all Life: pursuit of Objectives. We may generalize Jefferson when “Happiness” is viewed as a metaphor of some positive feedback after an accomplished Objective. When using such logic, these Rights become universal to all Life, from bacteria to humans. See my channel video for the proof.
what's with the drama programme footage...? I thpought you were talking about phiosophy. Surley people are not that dumb they need a soap opera to make a point to them, if so then i'm giving up on life.
this is so great!!!!!!!! It really helped me in studying for my test tomorrow. Now when I will be writing my essay I will be thinking of your video. Thanks so much, I am going to bed early tonight!!!!!!!!
This lite, lite information regarding John Lock is okay...(its more complex that a 'blank slate'), but comparing it to TV's LOST is not a parellel comparison, IMO. It throws Locke's phillosophy and unerlying meaning way off base. Turn off the set. Try the Declaration of Independence for better reasoning of Locke's views on Civil Government, not this schlock of pop culture. (But if you do want TV shows, finding clips from Law and Order may give a better perspective of Locke.)
If experience shapes our character, and experience involves what happens to us, then our lives are determined by experience. If, on the other hand, they're determined by reason, then that is what shapes us. The basis of the reason VS experience debate wasn't about which one gives us more freedom. It was meant to explain how we acquire knowledge. Neither of these 2 options has more favorable consequences for freedom than the other. It's a debate about knowledge, not freedom. Otherwise well done.
this video is very good... i have i report about John locke because i see this video i can get some ideas how i report it to the class... thank you very much to people who upload this video...and more power to you...God Bless to all..
Having studied text and researched views of scholars who have delved deep into the influence of these much revered men, many of whom argued against Rosseau whilst commending Locke's legacy, there is no doubt Locke has far greater influence.. his emphasis on personal Liberty and the Rights of Property for one.
I've watched AT _Lost_ a few times, but it soon became obvious to me that this show is far to convoluted to watch AT.
However, I have relatives who watch the show nigh on to religiously, and I will be linking them to this.
And really, it does help one to see Locke's philosophy in action. I think I might have Anzu, the high school girl I'm writing a story about, mention tabula rasa.
Hey guys, instead of flaming this video for being superficially complete, you could read the description - this was a SCHOOL PROJECT. Were you expecting an A&E biography or something? Jeez.
I really liked your video! I´m studying political science on a Swedish university right now. When we talked about the thinkers of the 17th century, I also analyzed the similarities between the real Locke and Lost-Locke. I really like them both xD
@jmtdt yes and a school project should be done with passion and insight . i dont expect great graphics and technique but i want substance. it sounds like they are reading from a technical manuel not about real belief.
Wow, what a great video. People need to learn from our history and see how far removed we are from what they created for us. We are all slaves to a master and all serve that master. Federal Central Stateism.
John Locke drafted a Constitution for the Carolinas and wanted insitute feudalism in North America. The emphasis on John Locke in academia is a large part of the corruption of modern education.
"the little and almost insensible impressions on our infancies have very important and lasting consequences".........is so true. cool video bronti28!!
Locke is also usually cited for his views on property rights. Landowners along with most students think he gave justification for absolute rights of property especially in regard of ownership of the earth. But he said this: "When the 'sacredness' of property is talked of, it should be remembered that any such sacredness does not belong in the same degree to landed property." The reason for this is that he thought that land must be shared and land monopoly avoided to avoid economic injustice.
Thank you for the upload. Im doing a Historiography Essay on John Locke, and this helped alot with the general information.
