How to Build a Workbench

Thanks for the video. I finished my workbench today. I deviated from the plans to make it more narrow and I attached the pegboard to the wall. People wanting the pdf, you don't need it. What I did was bring my laptop in the garage (covered it with plastic wrap), and followed along with the video. It was real easy, the hardest part was the pegboard.

I built this bench this past Thursday night.....I just used the utube video and paused it to write up the plan. Piece a cake and I love the bench!!! You don't need anything additional if you just write down the material list and write up the plan with the alpha code. The end product is SUPERB.

I'm in the middle of making this workbench, and I'd like to point out that it costs more than $100 to make. Each 2' x 5' slab of plywood costs about $45 at Lowe's, so there's $90 in just two slabs of plywood. Then there's the hardboard, all 2x4s and 2x6s, screws, and pegboard. The real cost is upwards of $150.

But i have still made it and it is a good design, i just had to cut the 19 3/4" leg pieces at 19". I didnt take a full 1" as my 2x4's were quite 4". Good work

your measurments for the legs dont add up. main leg of 34.5" and then extra parts = 7 3/4" + 19 3/4" + 4" brace gap + 4" brace gap = 35.5!!!! 1" out my friend

I think the music is lovely and ethereal, not scary at all. You all who keep saying scary need to stop watching Hollywood movies because it's warping your impressions of the world. That's a snazzy looking workbench. I like the idea about the power strip. I am researching ideas for having my hubby make my daughter a table for cutting fabric, laying out patterns, etc. That would be very helpful when time to use the iron and such.

nice video. but how did nobody notice the mistake? the schematics show the two 57" braces placed on the bottom not the top. i see the mistake was corrected at 4:52. but i think you should've alluded to this in the video (albeit this means the 2x6 front brace is not optional).

U can make temporary work bench by making bench top first and laying it across sawhorses. Lumber source will usually make one or two cuts from large plywood sheet. U can also make circular saw CUTTING GUIDE for accurate cuts using only circular saw.

I added a 1/2" to the height so my legs won't hit the front when seated on the bench I have and then lengthened the bench to 72". These changes don't affect the materials list. It just changes a couple measurements.

I think that he added these pieces so the wheels could be attached.  I just built mine and left them out.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm just finishing up mine and left off the extra 2 x 4 pieces, too. Without them, 3" casters fit perfectly.
