It looks pretty cold there, fish will stay fres for months in those temperatures. There is no reasen any what so ever for letting those creatures suffer for so long.
@freedomofabird we use a hand line with a small hook bait with dew worms the trout give a good tug on the hook and and you just pull them up , there was only 12 inch of water under the ice it can be a lot of fun if they are taking the hook good and fast . thanks for watching and your comments .
