What is so rare about the Springfeild, MA Twister:

1. It was a EF2 (very rare in New England). most of the rare tornadoes in new england are small and short lived.

2. It struck a skyscraper area as you can see.

3.It was a killer. Tornadoes dont normally kill in New England like they do in Dixie Alley.

4. The area itself rarely gets the perfect tornado ingredients because the atlantic ocean mostly dont provide enough warm moist air and the appalichians dont produce enough cool dry air aloft.

I live right where that tornado was in the video, spent all of yesterday clearing trees, there is a path of destruction from west springfield, across the river, through downtown, and right on up for Miles all the way into Wilburham/Palmer/Monson...that is a 45 minute drive at least. There are national guard posted on bad streets and trees and powerlines down everywhere, Unreal we have NEVER seen anything like this...my family moved here from italy in the mid-late 1800s

This is just intense. My parents were in Jelly Stone Park in Sturbridge, MA when the second tornado plowed through the forest a mile from them. They were in their trailer when the power went out and they noticed the sky was black, the wind was acting weird, and there were leaves raining from the sky. They said it sounded like a freight train was coming.

It basically rode along i90 and flipped cars, sign posts, trees, and they saw a days inn that got demolished and carved a path in the forest.
