  • the ol Philly Athletics-Connie's team

  • I guess jumping like a girl on home plate was considered cool back in those days

  • Love the two Super Mario Bros. type jumps onto home plate at the very end

  • Are there any pictures available of League Park today?

  • @duckman531 Yeah if you Google it. The Cleveland baseball field is still there without the stands and buildings. Amazing !

  • Is this Shibe Park? I think the A's previously played at Columbia Park.

  • @ridingroy After 1909, I think it was Shibe Park.

  • @duckman531 You are correct. Shibe opened in 1909 and was the first modern concrete and steel ballpark. Wooden ballparks caught fire frequently in those days. Thanks for the post !

  • @ridingroy There's a wonderful book about the "lost ballparks" by Lawrence Ritter. I think it's called "Lost Cathedrals". I'm sure you'd enjoy it!

  • @duckman531 Yes I have that book LOST BALLPARKS by Lawrence Ritter (The Glory of Their Times author) and it is great. I refer to it when reading other deadball era books. Unbelieveably enough I believe the playing field of 1890s League Park in Cleveland is still there and used for baseball !

  • @ridingroy It must have just been before Forbes field in Pittsburgh, where the 1909 World Series was played.

  • @sdgakatbk Yes, Shibe opened April 12th 1909, Forbes Field on June 30th 1909.

  • 1910, WOW!
