ANet is one of the developers under NCsoft, so is Paragon Studios who is managing City of Heroes right now. NCsoft is a developer as well as publisher. NCsoft is publishing GW2 as well, NCsoft gets a cut of it as well, who do you think is funding ANet to develop GW2.
whats sad is.. you might want the gold spammers to go away, but if they're there, it means a game is actually thriving because there's players willing to pay RL money for that game's currecy. Anyone being put off by this I asure you its no different from the hundreds of whispers you get in WoW. Infact I get less anoying whispers in Aion than I did in WoW. Player Based Economies are the worst idea in mmo's ever. You know what happens when players "control" the market? You get people who get lucky, then buyout all of certain items on the market and reprice it for 2-3x the original amount. They hold other players progression up by holding them hostage to "their" idea of a free market economy. It has nothing to do with supply/demand when one person holds all the supply.
Dont take offense to this, but i completely disagree. No single person will be able to have every supply out there. Its not as if a single person has the ability to stop everyones progression.
Now there may be the case that a rare item thats hard to find IS held hostage by a single person, but in this case that "rare" item is simply a luxuary that isnt needed.
I like player driven economys, they make it more challanging and realistic if u ask me. But thats just my opinion.
And again you would be completely wrong. 1 person bought out the entire...entire Expert Major Armor Flux market, over 30 of them, then reposted them for 15-25% more with alt toons. We know it was the same person because the name was the same with minor letter changes and the person admitted it...so it's not only possible, it's been done. They dont buy accounts. After you buy gold at their stores, and filled in your account information, they go in your account, sell all your stuff, use the Kinah as their own selling gold, change your password, and then they use YOUR account to advertise with.
I don't think so... It's all level 10 chars with names like "asdfgh", and they advertise to deliver in game, you don't let them on your account.
Yes there are people that do make fake sites looking like official NCsoft site, but they are simply account thieves, not gold sellers.
It would be time some kinda law is being made that forbids it so they can take action in taking their companies and websites down. If the source is down, it would stop the bots as well.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I have to speak up in disagreement that a game's age isn't reason to shelf it. Many people out there, myself included, can still pick up old NES games and enjoy them, and I'm sure you are aware of how dated THEY are. Bottom line is everyone has their own thing, and they're not wrong for having it.
I like your enthusiasm, but I have to admit being one of many who returned to WoW after giving Aion an honest effort. I leveled an assassin to 28ish, and although there were MANY things I loved about the game, it wasn't enough to take my mind off of WoW. If you love the game that much, that's great for you, but I sail another ship.
This is probably the first time I've seen a disagreement online that was actually intellectual. That was incredibly refreshing to see, you really don't have a clue. And to add to the discussion, I personally never got into WoW, but I know it offers a lot of cool things. I'm playing Aion right now and coming from Silkroad Online, it's the best thing I've played. The oldskool games will always be golden, but in competitive MMO's, Aion wins the gold. Search 'Aion Vision'. =]

I dont know what end game you played but the balance between pve and pvp in end game is about 70/30 in pve favor.
If you do the dungeons and quest you hardly grind at all till lvls 40 a bit. Its hard indeed to get last 10 lvls but worth it.
I play this game since closed beta and what you describe i havnt seen in aion. Not even somethings that gets close.

When players are allowed to control the free market and not the bots, more money goes into the pockets of those players and not the bots.
I.e. when legitimate players not longer have to compete with the illegal actions of automated programs, everyone benefits except those that cheat.
Laying the blame of gold sellers on those that buy it, does not address the issue.
The ability to sell a product, regardless of it legality, in no way legitimizes the action.

The ability to break the rules does not make the person who does so a Victim. Unless of course you choose to imply that they are a victim of their own stupidity.
In which case they are still at fault.
Legitimate players should not be force to adjust their play style because of the actions of illegitimate players
Like being forced to farm in less profitable places longer,
because all the good places are full of bots.

Player Based Economies are the worst idea in mmo's ever. You know what happens when players "control" the market? You get people who get lucky, then buyout all of certain items on the market and reprice it for 2-3x the original amount. They hold other players progression up by holding them hostage to "their" idea of a free market economy. It has nothing to do with supply/demand when one person holds all the supply.

Dont take offense to this, but i completely disagree. No single person will be able to have every supply out there. Its not as if a single person has the ability to stop everyones progression.
Now there may be the case that a rare item thats hard to find IS held hostage by a single person, but in this case that "rare" item is simply a luxuary that isnt needed.
I like player driven economys, they make it more challanging and realistic if u ask me. But thats just my opinion.

We know it was the same person because the name was the same with minor letter changes and the person admitted it...so it's not only possible, it's been done. you know the reason there are bots and gold sellers is the way Aion game play is set up-
you make a game where most of the exp you need to reach end game MUST come from countless hrs of grinding and this is the consequence,
add to that the Low drop rate of items which are essential = high prices = gold selling ... and it goes on and on and on ...
ether let people bot and buy gold or fix the game so that they don't need to bot... not all of us have the time to grind 14 hrs a day :)

@twinblade63 The game's problems run even deeper than that, because it's a pvp based game and more people seem to be leaving in the 46+ bracket than joining, so dredgion just stopped popping, the reduced fort timers screwed most upper abyss pvp... I dunno how things have changed since I quit but those were way more serious issues than gold sellers.

They dont buy accounts. After you buy gold at their stores, and filled in your account information, they go in your account, sell all your stuff, use the Kinah as their own selling gold, change your password, and then they use YOUR account to advertise with.

I don't think so... It's all level 10 chars with names like "asdfgh", and they advertise to deliver in game, you don't let them on your account.
Yes there are people that do make fake sites looking like official NCsoft site, but they are simply account thieves, not gold sellers.
It would be time some kinda law is being made that forbids it so they can take action in taking their companies and websites down. If the source is down, it would stop the bots as well.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I have to speak up in disagreement that a game's age isn't reason to shelf it. Many people out there, myself included, can still pick up old NES games and enjoy them, and I'm sure you are aware of how dated THEY are. Bottom line is everyone has their own thing, and they're not wrong for having it.

I played Everquest from 1999 to 2006 ( 7 years ) which i consider the best MMO and video game ever created.
That being said its horribly dated and would be a bad first experience for a new gamer unlike Mario Bros/Pacman.
MMO's date more than single player games, even if they are filled with great memorys.
Once you play aion for an our, you will never be able to return to the World of Warcraft.

I like your enthusiasm, but I have to admit being one of many who returned to WoW after giving Aion an honest effort. I leveled an assassin to 28ish, and although there were MANY things I loved about the game, it wasn't enough to take my mind off of WoW. If you love the game that much, that's great for you, but I sail another ship.

Fair enough, I find its hard to leave former MMO's mainly just due to friends and the fact I put in years of effort.
If you can get all your friends to move to a new game its fun reguardless of how good it truely is. Vanguard was like this for me.

This is probably the first time I've seen a disagreement online that was actually intellectual. That was incredibly refreshing to see, you really don't have a clue. And to add to the discussion, I personally never got into WoW, but I know it offers a lot of cool things. I'm playing Aion right now and coming from Silkroad Online, it's the best thing I've played. The oldskool games will always be golden, but in competitive MMO's, Aion wins the gold. Search 'Aion Vision'. =]
