  • did you use a DMX controller in this case? or was it sound activated

  • Brian,

You are the smartest man alive!

    RobertGuitarDJ

  • Sweet setup

  • brian - what is the light you have on the ceiling??

  • its a Mystic LED light I think by American DJ

  • OOPS! Sorry, wrong video. Yes, it is the Mystic LED

  • Beautiful transformation of the space. Nice

  • more par 64 b s **

  • awesome setup!!

checkout my videos.. will be uploading some new videos soon.

    DJ CHANI

    DESI JUNCTION DJS

  • Great job; it would look 100% better if u had some par 64 B's.

  • Dude Nice Job !

  • Great concept.

Do you think uplighting would still be good with the LEDJ Colour Burst?

    Thanks

  • after was so awesome. im looking for par cans now.

  • awesome uplighting! especially the uplighting on sound active during the music, it looked really good!

  • what is the song at 2:00. Thanks.

  • bee gees - staying alive

  • are you serious?

  • beegees - stayin alive

  • Hey, nice uplighting, the x move looked really good, but i think you should if you want, but it and the mystic on a t bar behind you because the dance floor looked a little dark. Nice job. Thanks.

  • hey bri wouldnt 2 of those x-moves luck good stould on top of your top cabs? obviously you would have too secure them some how.

  • 1:30 was that miles davis? sounds like it :)

  • hey bri, I think you should put the x move on top of one of the speakers, that would look kick ass.

  • Uplighting looked great, but I have a tip I got from Dj Big Dogg to pass on. (You probably already know this) Take a couple LED parcans and lay them on their side on the floor to give the dancing area a nice colorful glow.

  • That looked really cool. There was lots of colour

  • Hello, I must say the up lighting looks GREAT!!! But from the video it looks like the dance floor is really dark. It may the way you just set it up...but can/would you add more lighting to the dance floor with maybe a few par cans and some scatter spots or something? Would adding different lighting elements be "too much" with the up lighting?

Thanks for all you do I find all your videos to be very informative and helpful.

  • Uplighting is great for beautiful backdrops and even ceiling wash effects. The dance floor is dark because there is no "Fill". I would suggest an LED aimed low towards the dance floor to give more balanced color.

Something to keep in mind, LEDs are extremely bright. Be sure to keep them out of eye level or people will complain. Hope that helps.

  • PLS some one help me with the name of the song he sad:" everybody clap your hands"

    Thank you

  • The Cha Cha Slide?

  • What an awesome and safe effect! I've seen this uplighting technique used outside of Milwaukee. It was a non-LED Par 64 rigged on a short round microphone bass. It turned a white linen table cloth brown before someone noticed and turned it off. It could easily have caught fire. Just because nobody got hurt, doesn't mean the older uplighting techniques were smart. Thanks for the videos and please keep them coming.

  • The DJ's I work with have been with me for years I get them lots of work and they "take it easy" on me as far as passing on all this new lighting to the Bride and Groom...usually it is a said rate..if you know of any DJ's where you live and want work with my planning business let me know, I can always use some..maybe you have seen me on "Who's wedding is it anyway"..

  • I never said LED lifghting, back in the day we just used regular par can or floodlights what ever was handy..now my DJ's use LED's but back years ago it was very crude I must admit, but it worked and as they say a happy bride makes the planner happy as well..

  • Here's the thing: With LED lights, you can uplight things in a safe way, like drapes, table cloths, etc at close range without any chance of fire or burning anyone (because they produce little or no heat).

Another benifit of LED is that it uses very little power, so you can uplight an entire room with as many fixtures as you want without worrying too much about tripping circut breakers.

These are just some of the reasons uplighting has become more viable for us. Hence, the videos.

  • I was told this was a great place to look for DJ's for weddings, but I am shocked!!! Here in Green Bay we have been usuing "uplighting" for years I am surprised that you "professionals" are so far behind the times..think I will stay with local DJ's that are on the ball

  • Well thanks for stopping by anyway

  • Seeing how you are a seasoned pro with this, how much extra cash are DJs in Green Bay getting for uplighting a hall? Do they sell it as a package or is it per par can or fixture?

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how many "years" DJ's have been doing this in Green Bay seeing how LED technology for this purpose is only a couple of years old. Were they using Hallogen lights just hoping nobody got burnt and no fires were started or has Green Bay had LED for "Years" as well?

  • And obviously had alot of little kids running around with burned hands. I have a feeling this is "one of those" wedding planners we don't like working with anyways!

  • What an ignorant comment! Thank you Brian for the great videos!

  • Great job. Your videos are great.

  • Lookin good, i bought 4 of them LED PAR 64's the other day and they are super bright, probably brighter than the 1w LED cans... Lookin good on them columns.

  • Hey Bri. What is the dance lighting that is spinning on the ceiling??

  • That's the American DJ Mystic LED

  • looks great

  • Very Cool Brian! Great info. for us mobile DJs. Also I like that DJ Mystic LED.

  • That looked awesome. But I would recommend not putting the scanner on the ground. the people danceing usually like the light pointed at them or at the floor or at the wall. But most people don't look up when they are danceing unless it's like the limbo or something. Good luck on the videos. :)

  • It looked great. Man the more I watch your videos the more I am inspired to learn about DJ'ing

  • Nice Job!! Looked Great! As a lighting guy myself, i couldn't have done it better myself. did i see the x-move in there??

  • hi, my name is famiab martinez "fama dj" !!!good job!! :D

  • ye amazing the way one simple change can make a huge difference nice effect azwel :)

  • Definately looked great Brian. Up-lighting is the new "thing" by far for mobile DJs. You can't get much better than what it can do for you. Loved the effect. Great place to have a test run too!!!

  • Simple But Awesome use of the uplighting. will definately be lookin into to gettin 2 or 4 of those!

  • you tryed hiting that chandelier with those lights ?

cristal must give a cool reflection for sure

  • Can't see this video, it says the video is no longer avaliable!!

  • tht looked brilliant brian wat was the light that was led tht was shing on the roof it was L.E.D and it looked reel gd aswell

  • That's the American DJ Mystic LED

  • Hi brian love your led light show, i kind are feel but when some one how had hand on with led linght show how thay work and which one are the best one to bye for the right job like dj inside a hall like you did or grand open show.keep it up brian.

  • Looked great. Good ideas.

  • It's the way of the future, Bri - we all just need to hop on board.

It's all about partnering with your clients, isn't it? Combining with them to make the event as good as it can be as opposed to just showing up and pushing some buttons.

  • Yeah Al, you were right. I've been letting your words of wisdom soak in with me. Sometimes, it takes some time for things to get thru to my thick skull. HA!

  • The effect was mediocre until I saw them dancing to the music, then wow! They have these at the local music store. I may have to grab a couple!

  • it was awesome

  • Brian how about lighting up the speakers from the bottom up. Use an o clamp , clamp a small led par can under the speaker pole facing up and see what the result is. Later Will

  • finaly movingheads

  • That Looked Awesome, I Never Would Have Thought Those Lights Shined On The Columns Would Light Up The Room That Good. Good Job

    Ty

  • looked nice but vid was to short :(

  • Wow, that looked real nice Brian!

Definately gave that hall some nice ambience; hell i think i might try that at my next gig.

Finally, and excuse to get those 64's! :-p

Oh, and check your messages when you can Bri; i had something i wanted to talk to you about

    Keep up the good work!

  • Wow! That's really cool!!

  • hook the uplights up on dmx and make sure they stay the same light when they switch colors?

  • Uplighting was magnificent, my eyes went to them during the dances while the colours changed, this to me adds a great bit of visual ambiance. considering how crowded the floor looked I'd say having the Dancing "X" lights on the roof was a good call as well. As Always I'm looking forward to your videos.

  • Love this up light thing. It looks like 2 big lights and its not. Im goingto look into this 4 shore.

  • wow looks great, especially for being just 2 par cans, good stuff.

  • yeah good idea from dj mikey mike, long ago, I think we are all working on that conceptnow, LOOKED AWESOME,WELL DONE BRI, AS ALWAYS,EXCELLENT!!!

  • The par cans flashing on the columns was so cool! Great job, Brian!

  • Very Nice!!

That I exactly what I'm working on now. I hope to ave vids up soon!

  • I have seen this discussed in djchat. and wow it really brings makes a difference. and alot less to load

  • I think ideally, I'd like to use several. There is a shipment of new lighting on it's way so hopefully, I'll be able to do more videos on the subject soon :)

  • Brian that looks nice although I don't know if anyone would want to pay extra just for that but I could be wrong Let me know if anyone does. I do know that djs do charge extra for certain setups on both sound and lighting.

  • DJs are charging extra for uplighting packages. Here, we just used 2 par cans. Some DJs charge per par can and use several cans. Other DJs make it a package and charge for it. Either way, yes, they are making several hundred dollars or MORE doing uplighting.

  • ... there is a banquet facility in California a fellow DJ told me about that's charging $3,200 bucks to uplight thier halls!

  • Wow hmm very intresting. like I said it looks veru nice HMM

    !!.

  • Hey Brian, Im Ben and im 13. I was wondering... What website do you buy all your equipment at and what program do you use to edit your videos? Pretty cool. Also, AWESOMEE effect with the uplighting. Ive seen them do that at a general session for my parents business before, and it looked amazing!

  • Hi Ben

I use a few different companies when I buy stuff online. northernlightfx, idjnow, musictrends, 123dj, and canalhifi.

I do all of my video editing in Nero Ultra 7

  • That Was SICK!!! Those were the ADJ 64b's right?

  • Yup!

  • that looked realy nice man!!! cant wait to see more!!!

  • That looked actually really cool.

  • How did you link the two cans when there were no visible wires? Also check your email please.

  • They weren't linked at all. They were running on internal programs

  • Good job Brian!!! Is that Miles "So What".

  • Yup! "Kind Of Blue" is one of my favorites to throw on during cocktails

  • I thought of that 2 minutes ago and said I should change my post...!!!!! I'll Email you later tonight with some questions and thoughts about the P.A.E. new wave taking over the world 1 DJ at a time..

  • While you're at it, could you email me that pic of Flash & I?

  • That was TOO cool!! Did the par cans run through DMX or were they running sound-active?

  • Sound Active. No DMX was used at all :)

  • That looked really nice! You're right about uplighting being a "perfect alternative to using fog". In my opinion, it can be better than using fog in situations where this kind of architecture is availible.

  • To get the absolute best effect you need to carefully angle the par can so it lights the column or pillar and not the ceiling at all. It's these little details that make the difference. Or it could just be I'm a perfectionist!

  • I was trying to make that happen. The problem I ran into was part beam angle, part shadowing, and part distance from the wall. Overall, I think it turned out OK for the first time out.

  • Haha very nice! it came out great!! lol

  • Thanks Brian! Good idea and really interesting, nice effect :) ...

  • Hey Bri ,

Looks great! I was just wondering what that would look like with the Kam star cluster pointing away from the up lighting??

    What do you think

  • There was a lot of uplighting used at the Aug.2 Wedding, but the decorator used polished par cans and gels to get the colored light effect. Its a great service to offer, but its something I have been seeing. When done properly, it adds to the atmosphere.

  • very nice, maybe wireless dmx when you play music to change the color, i hope a wireless dmx unit is not too expensive

  • Mazel tov :)

  • great job!!! Were all the fixtures DMXed to ur computer for control? If not then my guess was that they were all Audio response mode.

  • No DMX was used. It was all sound active or selectable from the LCD menu on the back of the light.

  • i think you should do a video on how to use uplighting in a truss with your LED fixtures.

  • Are you asking about Truss Warmers? As soon as I get my box truss, I'll do that video :)

  • Great Job, Brian. I wish I had caught that at the DJ Expo... but that seminar was probably on the day I had to work. I'm glad you took the time to share it with us.

  • hmm I don't think that was a seminar. I got the idea just talking to Jay at Pioneer and the boys at American DJ (Alfred & Brian). That's where I usually learn the most at the trade shows :)

Think I should do an uplighting seminar at Mobile Beat?

  • The lighting looks great, it gives the room more depth, especially when the par cans go through the colors with the music. It gives the room a completely different look...

    Good job,

    -Mike-

  • will u be my dad? i love u...

  • Hey Brian, that looked really cool. Great job. I'm going to use this vid as a lighting reference for prospective clients and fellow djs.

  • it was a good colors i liked it , you should have put 4 led par cans , 2 different colors (example blue, red and red, blue) two colors on each side of a corner

  • I think it looked great. Now I have more reasons to spend money!

  • You should think of it as more ways to MAKE MONEY!

This isn't going to be a free service by a long way :)

  • you are making money , besids you are going to make double the money because of 4 par cans

  • brian ur uploading was AWESOME! I shood try that, can i steal ur idea?

  • Oh please do! Under one condition.. CHARGE EXTRA FOR IT!

  • That looks bad ass brian. I like it a lot good video. Im going to hace to try that I have 2 coler pallets ill try that with

  • I like it, but how do you keep them safe from kids?

  • if kids touch the lights, be bitter and yell at them.

  • That's a great question. The good news is that they can't get burnt by touching them.

Perhaps there should be something in the Uplighting contract about people messing with them and the liability the client would have if there was any theft or damage? Just thinking aloud

  • I think you did an incredible job. I do a little combo of that same look as well as using some (4) DMX scanners for direct lighting into the crowd.

  • Brian, you managed to capture exactly what you were trying to get across with a few lights the effect was at a higher level.

The marketing will be interesting. well done.... But how are you going to transport those columns around? ha

  • hey brian try puttin the x move on the speaker. great effect., and if you get another one it looks even better.

  • Excellent idea! "Charging for this" Oh yes, $200 extra if you want pliiars uplighted.

The Mystic was low down, I'm surprised it worked so well...But the light it was giving off was so clear, and it was daylight.

  • very upscale professional look....i like it

  • I will post a video on this Brian BUT...just take note...that those can you are using are roughly 300.00 a unit. The LEDRain 64...you can get for about 180.00. Now, yes - the chauvet one does use dip switched HOWEVER....the ADJ Pro ones are not as bright and the LCD screens actually makes them use DOUBLE the power.

  • I LIKED IT!!! Now, I want to get some of those LED PARs!!!

  • THATS AWESOME BRI....Cant wait to see the whole uplighting project....

  • i did uplighting in a banqet room, but it didnt have any collums so i did it in each corner of the room and it changed the way the whole room looked. try it!

  • a little more fill ligting wouldnt hurt, but love the uplighting thing! (also the x move)! u rock!

  • that looks nice man ill give that a try on my next gig

  • been doin this for a LOOONGG time!... want some more tips... i'll show u!... check out the martin DC-1's... I can do some really cool stuff with 'uplighting' and washes and stuff like that... I've never filmed any of my bug gig's... cuz they usualy dont like camera's... but i'll try my next one.

  • i loved it! really looks great with the in-beat flashing :)

  • nice gig log bri

i think i might have to get some of those led par cans because it looked great and it makes the room look more classy.

    nice 1 m8

  • looks freaking cool!!!

  • I like... up lighting is a winner in my book I'm going to have to invest in some LED pars now. add something new to the repretoier of lighting...

    It really does look good.

  • im very impressed with this setup brian. I think the x-moves would have been better slightly elevated though. You could see one of them was projecting into the white table cloth. P64's looked great!

  • Apologies if you have mentioned in this in a previous video or comment although I was wondering what is the small (what looks like a) moving head to the right of the set-up.

    Thanks.

  • Hey, sorry about that - all sorted it :)

  • Hey brian, loved the uplighting on the columns, really nice effect in daylight during the bar mitzvah, really shone and made the room stand out when the music started - need a few lights on the crowd tho brian. I know this is an ongoing uplighting experiment project but, perhaps you could uplight yourself brian, maybe a cool effect with another 64b led pro behind you changing colour every 5 minutes? Just a thought.

  • Looks great, Brian! I was surprised to see that Mystic on the ceiling rather than your trusty Revo III! : )

  • especially liked it with changing colors while the party was in progress ;)

but yeah, a little lighting on the crowd would have been better.

  • Nice Love the look!!!! DJ Mikey Mike

  • Bri, nice setup with the LED's. Nice effect on solids, and great color wash on sound active! Really made a difference.

  • I think your definitely on to something here. :)

  • Deffinently makes the room look 100% better

    very cool video!

want to send me to LED lighting to canada? ;) haha just

    kidding

i wonder how these would look under like the white silky stuff that usually hang off the walls or w/e during weddings and stuff.. would look pretty cool,

  • and they are like see through a little,

man im horrible at explaining things lmao, forget it :P

  • The white silky stuff's called tulle (pronounced like jewel, but with a "T")

You explained it fine & I reckon it would look pretty cool on tulle!

  • I wanted to try that tonight! Trouble was, I ran out of lights. There are several lights on order so very soon we'll have more options.

  • Yes, thats what im talking about!

but dam, shame you didnt have enough lights!

bah i need to get some LED lights so i can mess around with them... but too poor espesially since im getting into producing :P

these also could look really cool under trees like during halloween or something

  • I loved it Brian, maybe changing colors and patterns eventually. =P

Heck, what do I know anyways...

  • I love how it looks, but I totally think you need some sort of lights or at least 1 par on the crowd, it looks dull.

  • i think you should get all your light's and all your equiptment out and do a video id love to see all the lights on at the same time lol
