I don't understand why they don't do "emergency slaughter" in some way, to keep it from suffering further, but instead haul it off somewhere. I mean, there is no way anyone with an atom of animal knowledge would expect #6 to survive, but you can still se them blinking their eyes.
Also, it seem that if they aren't injured by the fall, many seem to get strangled by the rope around the throat.

im a rodeo goer i love them, but this is a little much. like i understand with some of these events with the calfs its going to happen and this being such a large scale event that alot of this stuff will happen but with the horses and the amount of injuries and the way it is handled is just wrong and i do not approve :( poor aminals.
I honestly have went to one of these rodeos and the announcers almost always say the animals injured will be okay. If they knew this would kill animals why would they do it? They obviously didn't care for that calf's broken back, they wanted it out of the arena as fast as possible. I would have ran into the arena and rescued those horses if I knew what they did when i was little. =(

The treatment of those animals is downright torture and should be banned in every country claiming to be somewhat civilised. That calf roping business is, apart from bull fighting, the cruelest I've ever seen done to an animal. At least the Spanish allow their bulls to grow into mature bulls before they begin their torture of them and they put them out of their misery... at least at some point. I've never been to the Cheyenne Rodeo, but I've been to hundreds of others, and out of the hundreds of other I've only ever seen three accidents. Two out of the three the animals were fine. The third needed vet attention but was fine in a week, and the cowboy causing the injury was banned from the rodeo grounds.

Wow. People are dumb. I asked my vet to watch it, and she was astonded on how much injuries were sustained at this rodeo . This is what she said.
" All those videos clips were astonishing. I cannot completely identify why they do this. I am againist this rodeo events. All those injuries could be prevented."

I don't know how many of you watching this understand the concept of the rodeo, but what they're doing in the rodeo, they have to do on their farms. You can't just go out, wave a carrot in front of a wild horse that's never seen a human being, and expect it to instantaneously become tame. You can't ask a calf that's sick to walk into the barn, you have to rope it and tie it up. The rodeo has just become a way to show off a rancher's skills at gathering their animals and taming them.
@booknerd78 The concept of rodeo is to get the best time/score in order to win prizes. Ranches do not use time clocks and scoring judges, nor do they rope for the quickest time; they rope with the animals' safety and welfare in mind.

At Moundlsy farm we have at least 30-40 cows and bulls, quote that we would NEVER let this happen to our livestock, second of all when the cows have calf's you shouldn't "rope" the calf it upsets mama and when mama is upset daddy is upset so we open up gates and let the calf and mama and any stragglers who follow threw the others are content to wait and we get them in the barn without raising hell so i don't know why you or your "pals" have to rope them.

I remeber last time i went to a rodeo this 16 year old boy was riding a bull and he fell off and the bull stepped on him. I just stood up and said "HA!" Everyone gasped at me but I was the one who noticed the bull being shocked and whipped before it got released. I hate rodeos and the stupid people in them. All animals deserve proper treatment; that people continue to make money off animal suffering in this day and age is unacceptable.
It really is. The laws in this country, even for as far as they've come, are just still too outdated. A cow is just like a dog or a cat, and isn't some play thing that can be broken and replaced. You think people would at least care more deeply about the horses. Or realize in watching this just how many animals were being carried away. I don't know any vets that would comment on a video clip, it can be very hard to tell what the exact injury is without getting your hands on the animal. I think the only thing more disgusting than the injuries these horses and calves were subjected to, are the people who did nothing to help them. What kind of cowboy hog ties a calf that is clearly shaking violently from some kind of spinal injury. Human beings at their worst.

NieneJonasHorses: Thanks for your post. Many state specifically exempt rodeo livestock from cruelty laws in order for the rodeo to continue. The same treatment to animals outside the rodeo arena is definitely classified as abuse. Inside the arena, the animals are allowed to suffer. Let your state representatives know all animals deserve a life free from abuse.
Personally, i think they ALL need vetinary help. Some of them are probably past help. it brings tears to my eyes to see so many animals hurt and abused. gabbybella123: We do not know because Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo people have steadfastly refused to put out a detailed report. They have only stated that seven animals received veterinary care and that three of those animals (one horse and two steers) were killed. In the case of the steers they were sent to slaughter. We don't know what if any pain medication was administered.
Rodeos keep this kind of info as quiet as possible, because the truth is so damning.

#5 probably just needs checked for contusions/lacerations. He appears to be up and moving just fine afterward.
The rest should have been sent to a clinic for examination, most of them appear to have leg injuries.
I'm not a licensed veterinarian, I'm simply stating my opinion.

I don't know how many of you watching this understand the concept of the rodeo, but what they're doing in the rodeo, they have to do on their farms. You can't just go out, wave a carrot in front of a wild horse that's never seen a human being, and expect it to instantaneously become tame. You can't ask a calf that's sick to walk into the barn, you have to rope it and tie it up. The rodeo has just become a way to show off a rancher's skills at gathering their animals and taming them.

@booknerd78 The concept of rodeo is to get the best time/score in order to win prizes. Ranches do not use time clocks and scoring judges, nor do they rope for the quickest time; they rope with the animals' safety and welfare in mind.

At Moundlsy farm we have at least 30-40 cows and bulls, quote that we would NEVER let this happen to our livestock, second of all when the cows have calf's you shouldn't "rope" the calf it upsets mama and when mama is upset daddy is upset so we open up gates and let the calf and mama and any stragglers who follow threw the others are content to wait and we get them in the barn without raising hell so i don't know why you or your "pals" have to rope them.

@booknerd78 If a calf is "sick" on the farm I don't think he'll be running that fast and I don't think you have to flip him end over end to catch him and there aren't very many wild horses left in this country so if you found one on your "ranch" I don't think you can "break" the horse and call it yours. I believe wild horses are protected animals. So to me your argumant holds no water.

The right way to tame horses these days is through understanding and a kind hand not twitches and spurs, tasers and abuse. And before you go saying i bet all you so called horses are already tame. I remeber last time i went to a rodeo this 16 year old boy was riding a bull and he fell off and the bull stepped on him. I just stood up and said "HA!" Everyone gasped at me but I was the one who noticed the bull being shocked and whipped before it got released. I hate rodeos and the stupid people in them. I thank SHARKonline for making people aware of the abuse going on. Im 14 and have more common sense than the stupid vet on site at that rodeo!

@Raiqette Thanks for your post. At this time, laws concerning animal exhibitions such as rodeo, zoos and circuses protect the abusers, not the animals. That needs to be changed. All animals deserve proper treatment; that people continue to make money off animal suffering in this day and age is unacceptable.

It really is. The laws in this country, even for as far as they've come, are just still too outdated. A cow is just like a dog or a cat, and isn't some play thing that can be broken and replaced. You think people would at least care more deeply about the horses. Or realize in watching this just how many animals were being carried away. I just can't even wrap my head around it, I'm glad that at least there are organizations like yours.

I don't know any vets that would comment on a video clip, it can be very hard to tell what the exact injury is without getting your hands on the animal. I think the only thing more disgusting than the injuries these horses and calves were subjected to, are the people who did nothing to help them. What kind of cowboy hog ties a calf that is clearly shaking violently from some kind of spinal injury. Human beings at their worst.

While it seems obvious that most , if not all, of these animals is in need of vet care-isn't the more pertinent question why we allow these animals to be tortured and killed in the name of "entertainment"? Lack of response to their injuries after the fact would be a moot point if this barbaric activity were outlawed as it should be. I got through the Part One and half of Part 2, before being too sickened to contiue watching....If these were puppies being abused, people would take notice!....

not a vet but here's my two pence worth! no. 1 probable broken neck judging by the way the legs spasm.
no.3 looks like a spinal injury or similar resulting in paralysis of the hind legs.
no.4 evident leg or foot injury, I am shocked no one even checked for something stuck in the foot!
no.6 almost certainly another spinal/ neck injury
no.9 not a break but probable sprain/ strain/ muscle tear
all of them should have seen a vet! I suspect the vast majority unfortunately did not survive.

And the 'ambulance' is only a stock trailer with a sign stuck on the side during the performance.

The same treatment to animals outside the rodeo arena is definitely classified as abuse. Inside the arena, the animals are allowed to suffer. Personally, i think they ALL need vetinary help. Some of them are probably past help. it brings tears to my eyes to see so many animals hurt and abused. I never knew humans could be such monstors as to slaughter their own animals for enjoyment and money. if they want sport they should try dressage, not bloodsports. do they even think about what they are doing? do they think afterwards '''i killed an animal'' or ''yes, i won!''? probably the second, and it is gross.

so you dont like rodeo or what when I was a kid I thought it was great still do. Frontier days was some of the happiest memories of my life.
Hope to take my own kids some day to have the same happy memories. I love animals alive or on a sandwich. love people too but not as much it s that ego thing and faux morality. Cowboys love critters too. always have always will. Why dont you try to ban High School and College football for all its injurys to young people? you cant eat kids though.

gabbybella123: We do not know because Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo people have steadfastly refused to put out a detailed report. They have only stated that seven animals received veterinary care and that three of those animals (one horse and two steers) were killed. In the case of the steers they were sent to slaughter. We don't know what if any pain medication was administered.
Rodeos keep this kind of info as quiet as possible, because the truth is so damning.
