  • Thanks to you... yes it helped.... i learned drums by myselve. And Videos like that helps a lot. I have still problems with the "thrippels. or Triolen" i dont know the right word... but i work on the shit... see yeah

  • Your mentioning wrong names couple of times but still the best raggae drum lesson on youtube for sure!

  • this was so fucking good man that's the sound i was looking for.

  • Thank you!

  • can you do a lesson on reggae fills? Please?

    ~~Smiley~~

  • cool vid bro. greetings from Chile, SouthAmerica

  • If you like reggae, reggaeton, or dancehall music, "reggaelinx website"is an awesome site for you.

  • its called a one drop because you dont play the bass drum on the "1" so your dropping the one. Hence the name "one drop" but good lesson good info!

  • its called a one drop because you dont play the bass drum on the "1" so your dropping the one. Hence the name "one drop"

  • Thanks.. well explained. Reggae rhythm is not easy for me to find the groove, but this helps a lot.

  • fuck haters.

  • thanks a lot, mate!

  • Thanks alot man could you post some more reggae videos?

  • You hit it with the hi-hat feel.

I'm a guitarist and if the hats are too sloppy with a funk or hip hop feel, I get lost.

Can't stay on the skank if the hats are all over the place.

  • FINALLY! Real reggae...there need to be a few others like you on here.

Have to say I found your videos (this and the dancehall one) very informative, thanks for the upload.

  • Fuck yeah bro!!!I hear a lot of haters but havent heard any of them play?Sounds like you know what your doing. Thanks for the help man.

  • Thank god, I couldn't take another expert village instructional on the subject XD

  • @untergesicht amen

  • Thanks for the time out your buzy schedule doing this most informative vid x

When u say ... 'play it right...' do you mean. in time and feeling the reggae to be of great import? or something else

  • @Zeeceei I feel reggae is ( sadly jazz too ) one of those kinds of music that you should dedicate a good amout of years too. in other words its not as simple as rock. its hard to explane anything about reggae really... it kinda helps to live the raggae life to play the reggae drums

  • whatever everyone else says talkin shit about your terminology, who gives a fuck, you can tell you know what youre doing just by listening to you play. props guy. i wish i could play some reggae drums that smoothly

  • the comments in the video are hilarious lol

  • Thanks Brother...I truly appreciate it man, I'm on the "poor man" drum lessons. I haven't been playing for awhile but just getting back into it, but this makes sense to me.

  • great drummer

    thank you

  • Stop Hatin' . . . this guy is creating something more helpful than a lot of the stuff found on the internet. . . and he has skills and feel. . . respect !

  • I think in reggae drummers play charleston with the right hand?

  • thank you, that does help alot

  • Great. Thanks for the insight.

  • nice job and good info for me. always learning drums...the fine points were right on.

  • Thanks for posting this video!! I agree with everything you're saying 110%.

  • I don't believe he is playing the hithat correctly for a classic Carlie Barrett/ Wailers groove... Just sayin

  • your very right! we should all sound like the same drummer! "John bonham you dont sound like Carlie Barret! your fired!"

  • @gweramo actually he does have the pattern correct. There's a number of variations of that pattern - he's playing one of them.

  • @gweramo yeah dude shut the fuck up, we should all sound like every drummer from every genre that makes sense.....individuality, learn it before you learn to drum

  • very good lesson you fit alot in 6 mins

  • you should do a funk drum lesson!!! nice job!!!

  • it's a good lesson!!!

for all you guy's who want trying to play reggae this is the videos!!

  • very nice left hand on hi hat eh. good feel too. i count it 1 n a 2 n a 3 n a 4 tho

  • The rim shot thing helped me soo much man. Thank you!

  • I wish he hadn't criticized other videos on Youtube because his is far from being perfect. You guys should check out videos by Dyrol Randall. The guy is the real thing from jamaica.

  • what does he show you though? he plays GREAT explains nothing! im simplifying what i play not showing off and calling it a lesson......just sayin

  • you rock man. i love how you used stir it up as example GREAT video dude! i love it.

    youre a great teacher

  • GREAT video...this was extremely helpful.

  • hey man that was awesum!!! Can u make a video with the camera above yer drums to better see it. thanxx man

  • Hey, I'm really glad the someone was able to give a tutorial on reggae drums without losing the feel and vibe of it all. Blessings to you. You are a great drummer, JAH has blessed you with that talent.

    JAH bless

  • !!!DUDE!!!!

The beat is not called one drop beacuse the snare and kick drop together on the 3, that makes absolutely no sense, if that was so it would be called the 3 together or something like that! hehehehe

It's called One Drop because you dont play or "DROP" the first beat also known as the ONE, hence you drop the one and there you have it, ONE DROP.

Dont take this the wrong way, you play really well.

  • WRONG...

    Delroy Washington - Jah Wonderful

    Youtube That Video.

THATS WHAT A ONE DROP IS.

    1buzywuzy1 is CORRECT.

You need to learn to overstand.

    Bless.

  • who cares what it's called? JAH!

  • great job and love the air bass

  • YO!! Great video man, it was really needed!! As a professional drummer that just took on the task of playin for a Bob Marley tribute band, it's good to be able to get on here and find people who break this down as well as you do. Thx for the info!!

  • hey thnx man ur riite this is the best demo that sounds like REAL reggae

    Peace and Love

  • Nice snare sound, you should put up a tuning lesson for people interested in reggae, rocksteady n what not

  • thanks

  • good shit!...ur a leftie...doesn't even matter...you're a real drummer

  • excelent vibes, thanks for sharing it, but I agree with infraone, a good video about reggae drum set tuning is missing, specially snare tuning, and also, a REAL ska lesson would be nice. And I'd like to see you improvising something... thanks again

  • its very nice but i think for beginner drummers it may be a little to much at the same time

  • thanx. excellent. i have seen the light!

  • nice one man, thanks for clearing that up, your right there is a lot of stuff out there from people who look like maybe they just read it somewhere and theres just no feel to it, would be nice to see more of what your doing close up on the hats though rather than the other side of the room lol

  • Nice man, thanks for the tips!

  • Very nice reggae drumming. Thanks for sharing.

  • good vids!! please make a vid about ska drum beats and how to tune your drums to sounds like the reggae drummers

  • great video, very helpful and hope to see more of these off ya!

  • Dude, this is the best reggae drumming instructional video I've seen on youtube so far. Like stever199 asked though, are you left handed?

  • yes

  • Its amazing how you instruct and play reggae beats much better than Dyroll. It shows music is something you learn regardless of its origin or your nationality. This is the best instruction so far. Respect.

  • I thought that the one drop meant that you dont play or drop the 1

  • Yo buzy, thanx for all the dope lessons (especially the reggae and dancehall) they have helped me alot. Maybe u can post a vid about tuning and setup for that perfect reggae tone next time. Thanks again!

  • nice vid/lesson...btw your left handed? I am a left handed drummer...is it easier to have your kit set up for a righty? i was thinking about trying...let me know...thnks again!!

  • dads drummer was righty learned on his kit lefty :)

  • nice lesson...hope to see more...especially on hi hat technique.

  • Very nice one of da betta reggae drum vids.

    Rimshots are perfect

  • Hey man, I'm just learning drums and I have a special place in my heart for reggae. This is the mostest bestest info I've found. Thanks!

  • Nice!

  • why you american talk so much?!?!?!?

  • what would you have me do sign language?

  • n0w daz reggae l0lz :D chuR mean :D

  • Cheers for that, pretty sweet :)

Me being like completely new to reggae stuff (and having to learn it for band) i've been searching for a decent vid... on of my mates sent me a link to this one, and it's one of the best and most helpful, thanks :)

Just a question... would you be able to like break it down even more, say exactly what's going on, and do it slower so you can like play along easily or something? Would be great :) don't worry if you can't though.

    Cheers again, sweet drummin :)

  • Well done!!! very interesting!

...and you're right, there aren't a lot of videos "complete" like this one on utube...

  • What song is he "air bassing" at 1:30 ???

  • stir it up by bob

  • I'm pretty sure it's "Stir it up".

  • Bob Marley-Stir It Up

  • "stir it up" by the wailers from there "catch a fire" LP

  • It's helps a lot man! Thanks, I'm always trying to play along with the Bob Marley records but I'm shit, but I'll keep trying. Thanks and greetings from Brazil!

  • sounds good

  • Hey man, weres ya bass drum?? good to hear where you would play it in those examples. : - )

  • My brotha your info is WRONG the 1 drop is on the 2 and 4,second you should do your homework, study drummers like carly barrett, horsemouth, sly dumbar, desi jones, desi ganer, lloyd nibbies and so on. Third, learn the real drumming of ska, lovers rock, one drop, dancehall and so on,how do i know this, cuz if u check out my resume u would see why, also u can check me out with Burning Spear in boulder,CO. just trying to help, one love.

  • Socadrum-1buzy is right about where beats fall, and so are you. The guy said depending and how you count the beat can fall on the 3rd, 1st or 4th. I am a jamaican drummer. Again, this is better than Dyroll's.

  • No my brother, listen to how he's counting the beat. 3:35 he explains, check it out

    Bless

  • keep talkin! while your talkin people are loving! you got what you wanted though! no one can drop names like you! wooooow neat!

  • @socadrum idk, doesn't the numeral "1" in "1 drop" refer to the number of "drops" in a measure? I've always thought of a 1 drop as being on three, but do hear it used in a double time sense (ie the drops on 2 and 4 as you mentioned.) He even mentions the counting aspect at 3:40.

  • @socadrum your talking 2 drop. 1 drop is as advertised, the drop is the 3rd beat.

  • @socadrum one drop is on 3 while the skanking is on 2 and 4

  • Thanks for the intro to reggae drumming. I´m just about to switch to playing reggae after many years of funk/soul. This video is just what I needed!

  • keep the reggae jams flowing!

  • I never said anything bad about your skills just commenting on your comment on how particular jamaicans are, we had some wicked JA drummies come to town and i reason with dem on style and tecniques. No need to get vex. More power to you and your style! Sadly i dont have any vids to show what i can do, but theres no need for that kind of ting this is not a compition.

  • an ting an ting? lol

  • thaks a lot

  • Jamaican drummers wouldnt play open style like that...not saying that its not good, but just touching on your comment on how particular jamaicans are with playing instruments! Rockers style is considered STEPPERS by the way!

    Give thanks!

  • what kind of snare is that? it sounds sick

  • jammin, do more please.

  • Guitars usually have six strings ha

    Nice video anyway

  • much better than any of the reggae drum lessons I've heard on youtube

  • Greetings, your video is brief and to the point. Just missing the text comments with corrections when I downloaded the video. Did you say most of the rolls are single stroke? I have always wondered how Carly Barrett from Wailers made that mega crispy rolls. Thanks for your work.
