When I am reading your coment's... I can't help but think most of you are ignorant haters. Mostly because i disagree on picturing Werich as comunist and weak person.
OK so Werich was actor during communist era in Czechoslovakia. This is crucial fact. In each non-democratic system are actors in first line of interesting of regime. And some people think that actors are behoove be a persons with high morale quality. Some like as conscience of rest of nation. They are very easy target for critique because they are in mass-media and they are very know. Werich belived in socialism a left-winged ideas, but he wanted also democracy.
He signed anti-charta because he thougth that is attendance list. After publishing of anti-Charta by Red Justice/Rudé právo (communist newspaper) he protested against that and wanted be drawn down from this. It wasnt (of course) published, and many people in our country think, that Werich was collaborator.
I hear this before dude, and it really sounds like a frikken bullshit answer. If the man had really felt solidarity with the artists he had betrayed he could have made a bigger gesture than to come up with this pathetically lame excuse. Let us accept that he was comfortable in his success, was a key puppet of the communist regime, and was basically a talented clown but a rather shitty human being and a weakling.

THis is the most sensible statement to date that I have read on this website Thanks Heerflik. I suppose you have to ask yourself what you can really expect froma comedian. Most of their sort become that way to avoid bullying in school and this makes them traitors by nature, who will sell anyone up the river just to get their little amount of recognition. Why Czechs are so fascinating with this scuzzbag is beyond me. At least the Slovaks have the sense to fart on him.
