I think the movie is pretty darn funny as it is. My impression from various academic articles about the film is that very little was cut from the film. Maybe a couple scenes that were deemed too silly/ridiculous by the producers? Who knows what Ford is talking about.
As others have noted, one of the more interesting aspects of this interview is the way the Ford manages to put his hand in front of his face for much of it. Just trying to make it as difficult as possible for the filmmakers!
Thank you for your comments. I think you may be right about the cuts, Ford was always complaining about producers. The film is a great illustration of how difficult an interview subject Ford could be and as you say his movements with his hands were quite deliberate. However I think he mentions later that one of the lights was causing him problems with his vision.
As an accomplished director Ford must have known where the
camera was and purposely kept obscuring his own face by
constantly waving his hand & cigar in front of it.
It had to have infuriated the guest cameraman, and that was
probably the idea!

Thank you for the comment.
To cause grief for an interviewer was Ford's favourite past time - that is, next to boozing!

I really like this clip. Shows the benefit of not over analysing natural talent.
I would love to see the humerous version of the film!
Keep em coming TR.

A most excellent film! Such a tragedy so many humorous parts of it
were cut out! Wish someone had tucked a copy away in its entirety
somewhere. I believe it was Will Rogers' last movie.
