I don't think, that hammering thru the filter is a too good of an idea. Sorry to say. These oil filters are pressed together and not welded. By deforming the sidewall the rigidity is lost, and I've seen a few cars with the filter base still on. There are spider clamps to take them off or hat type wrench inserts. The spider ones fit all.
@DJHcom Indeed - screwdriver through the filter isn't an ideal means for removal. I just googled the spider clamp for an oil filter and that's a pretty cool tool. Thanks for the comment!
I bought a Nissan Maxima GLE 1998, runs great.. 320,000kms and I bet it can go another 300,000 if I take good care of it, prior owner was a woman who did mostly highway driving and stored it in garage for 20 winters.. scared to drive it.... so hardly any rust.... Im very happy with this car.. and I hear alot of great things of Nissan Maximas... I have to drive out west so Ill need to changle oil and other things thanks for the good vid man! it will help me.. :)..

I wish I had thought of doing these videos when I did my brakes, because brakes jobs are relatively easy too. I'm not going to need rotors or pads for a while though, at least I hope so, but I'll be sure to make videos of the next things I need to fix. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for posting. Just so happens I was looking for a DIY oil change video for the same car! Care to post other maxima video (e.g. changing the brakes)?
