  • I've seen them 5 times. My favorite band. I miss them. No one makes music like this anymore. Never saw them with Gary.

  • Thanks for this upload. I saw the original BR549 line-up (Gary, Chuck, Jay, Donnie, not sure who on drums) at the Sons of Hermann hall in Dallas in the 1990s. They did a straight 3 hour show with no breaks and minimal talk. It was great music and the best money I ever spent for live entertainment.

  • @FoxRunMan I think the drummer was called Shaw Wilson

  • this was recorded in nottingham uk, i was at the front of the stage, one hellluva band and a night to say i was there!they were awesome all night long and mingled with the crowd after the show, for photos and drinks! truly awesome humble guys!

  • love the old classic sound, the new stuff that's on the radio sucks royally, it's not country it's pop rock crap.

  • without Gary Bennett, they're really not Br5-49.

Of course, your mileage may vary

  • Love that name: BR549! Junior Sample is probably smiling down from heaven at such shenagins! A wonderful rendition of one of country music's greatest tunes. THANK YOU so very much for posting this delightful clip for us to enjoy! :)

  • Great cover from BR 549!

  • great two steppin song

  • awesome cover!!!! they remind me of trent sumner and the new row mob!!!:)

  • It's funny, cause it seems like a lot of ppl get into old skool country, from punk & metal backgrounds. I guess a lot of them get into it via rockabilly. Me? I heard an indy station that played a ton of bluegrass one day & just got hooked. That of course got me into other types of country. BR549 has one of the best covers I've heard.

  • Sorry...not Ray Price and Van Howard

  • o thanks for this important info... I didnt notice that! I thought it was Ray playing the upright bass

  • No, but at least someone is still paying tribute to all the great music of years past. That's and this is damn good too. Before you criticize, you should check them out live. Unless you prefer Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift.....

  • Taylor Swift is the official Death of C&W!...can't stand that crap...but if you are comparing BR-549 vocally to Ray Price and Van Howard, or instrumentally to the Cherokee Cowboys......BR-549 is not the same.....sorry...just stating fact....and BR-549 would be the first ones to admit it.

  • Ray Price's band has let's see sometimes about 15 members.Don't compare apples to oranges.

  • @operhoot No, Ray's Cherokee Cowboys were among the finest players to ever back a singer. But Donnie Herron could play with any band anywhere. He would have fit right in with the Cowboys. BR5-49 does a great , great job of keeping this music alive today though. There are those that listen to BR5-49 who have never heard of Ray Price, but they get hooked on his style of music through them.

  • Greatest band ever;o) I discovered you in 1998, and have bought all of your cd's since then;o) Greetings from Norway:o) We're e little bit country you know;o)

  • Sweet song! Does anyone know where their name came from, and don't tell me to look on wiki. I already did and there's nothing!

  • BR549 was Junior Samples' phone number on Hee Haw

  • Thank you, I just checked again and I did find it on wiki. Well thanks a lot anyway!

  • I saw them a couple of times with the original lineup. Once at Roberts in Nashvegas during Fan Fair. 3 solid hours, no break. Best show I think I've ever seen. Some guy once offered 100 bucks for each Hank Sr song they knew. 15 Hank songs later, he had to find an ATM! Best Honky Tonk sound in many, many years.

  • @rockinredneck57 - I can remember many a night on Lower Broadway when the band played through w/out a break. I am one of the fortunate ones that was there when the band first formed and and got to watch history being made as it happened . Still have recordings of the band in those early days when 'Bugs' and 'Bones' were still w/ them. I talked to Chuck a short while ago and got permission to post some of that stuff so look for it in the near future.

  • These guys need to get off their asses and get back on tour. I saw them open for Dylan in NJ and they had the crowd by the short n curlies. People need this.

  • The prominent double bass brings a strong pulsating swing to this classic song.

    Fine band effort.

  • Heard 'em on Prairie Home Companion or Vinyl Cafe (both are radio programs).

  • Thanks for posting.

    That's one tite band!

  • I was fortunate to see Ray Price sing this live in Maryland in 2007.

  • Chuck's BR549 surely are great but you're right...That's the one...Ray is 'my' king. I was in Albuquerque's 'the Last of the Breed's tour and Mr. Price Crazy Arms was a memorable one

  • I'm so happy to find these guys here. Haven't heard them in a long time. Solid music and good harmony - what more can you ask?

  • very nice!!

  • Is that Chris Scruggs on the right (wearing the glasses) ?

  • Yes
