Just excellent tips and style/flow as usual from Sadie!! I'd like to share that frog pose or half frog if your quads are really tight is also very beneficial before and after running. It is also a wonderful "happiness" pose. :)
ok no offence i watched only 45 seconds of this vid so far and saying his fatigue went from 8 to 16 over night is something i refuse to beleive, but hey, ill do this right before i run tonight see how i feel
Well, It happened. That's all I can say--I saw it happen! If you breathe the yoga breath, slowing it down to 3-4 paces per breath through the nose instead of breathing high in your chest, you would instantly get about twice as much oxygen in your bloodstream. So, why wouldn't that in turn create twice as much endurance? Just sayin...
I think sadie is on the right track. i used to be out of breathe so quickly, but now i pace my breathing slowly and can go for longer before feeling tired.
I entered Cross Country about 3 weeks ago. We do a lot of long disctance running. To the max, 4 miles. But, I was never used to that much. With 1 mile I had to walk! Coach said I'll get used to it. Now, I can't say I'm in shape or out of shape. Sure I've got some leg, tricep and thigh fat but, I'm a teen. And it's not excessive either. Anyways, latley, my knee began to hurt. Would these stretches help me? Thanks!
Well, a certification from a 200-hour training program is preferred, but there are all types of knowledge levels in yoga, or any other trainer-types. I studied with one teacher for 3 years, then went on to study for 12 more years. I happen to have a lot of education, but you should make sure with yours.
i learned these techniques in yoga class but never used them. i am taking up running and want to improve my speed dramatically (1mile in 8:30minutes; currently at 10:00), so I am wondering whether this will help me or not. of course, i am going to try them tomorrow when i hit the gym.
It will help your running time to be more flexible and have more range of motion, plus the breath helps you endure much farther. But the best part is you'll save yourself a lot of wear and tear and potential injury. Don't wait till your joints hurt to start stretching! Have fun,
I did ballet and running back in high school which caused a lot of knee and hip problems and have been looking for a good yoga stretch to target the problem bits. These stretches are fantastic!
Yes, they will help immensely. Try my Yoga for Cyclists, the Splits, and The Power Half Hour and Yoga for Weight Loss to warm up. Being warm first will make a huge difference in how much you can stretch. Good luck!
hey sadie, I went running today and used your technique, and let me tell you, it was amazing how far I was able to go before exhausting. I am not a runner and I did very well for running so far. However, I had a question. when I was running and breathing, inhale 1..2..3..exhale...1...2...3, I noticed that my chest was having a tough time containing the air...so I found myself switching to normal breathing again. would you happen to know the reason for this ?
Sometimes if your heart rate gets too high, and your lung capacity hasn't increased yet from practicing this breath enough, you might revert to mouth breathing. Just try to come back to this breath as much as you can, and you'll build the proper muscles and space it takes to do it more and more.
If I would have had such information several years before I could have improved my basketball and running practice to a higher level without thigh and knee lateral tightness problems, however, I have stretched a lot to solve these problems but it's obvious now that was not the right way.
A great new start since several days. Stretching the good way is a great experience and so will be the breathing techniques(booster!).
I never saw yoga is easy to get, i try once by take a course but not get done...i gave up but i would like to try it again after i have watched your video.
I could understand when you taught this yoga...great job!
A canadian study tells that if people, and in particularly retired persons, would practicise a half hour walking or moderate exercises each day, there would be 60 to 70 thousands less people dead each year(study from american researchers K.E. Powel and S.N. Blair in 1994). I can easily imagine the results of studies about such stretchings in life.
Exactly. More and more studies are being done that show yoga does everything from turn on anti-aging hormones to raises metabolism. It's incredible, and I'm happy to share the benefits with anyone and everyone who can find this page;)
That's a world wide problem: the lack of knowledge in such deep physical exercises and its interest in health. you save and you improve a lot of lives with such informations. Some people still don't know the importance of physical activities related to such deep exercises respiration.
Very cool Ill definitely try this after my next run/ bike

Absolutely--try to do at least the Pigeon Pose right after you run when you're still warm. Your knees will last a lifetime then!

What education, training, and experience is required of you or any other person in the profession of yoga trainer?
